L200 transmission?

Just wondering, my wife and I recently purchased a 2001 L200. People my wife work with are telling her the transmission's on saturn's usually go after 3 years. Is this a problem or is the person just uninformed. Also I have 6 months to purchase an extended warrenty... Is this something i absolutly should do or not??? Thanks in advance
