Buell Firebolt XB9R

I am looking into buying a firebolt. I have read the specs and seen the numbers. They say this bike will get up and go off the line because of the torque but will get beaten by a 600 supersport after the first 1/8 mile. I am not one who only loves to go insanely fast (a buell will still do 135 i believe), but will a buell still do everything a 600 supersport will do in terms of stunting and so forth? And, is a firebolt capable of clutching a wheelie up doing about 55 on the freeway like you can do on a 600. The buell is supposed to be able to lose any 600 in the twisties because of its low center of gravity and wicked torque, but I have never seen any numbers or specs on that kind of race. Most of the numbers i have seen are dragracing. Any extra info you might have would be great. If there is anybody who actually owns a buell i would like to hear from you and your first hand experience on the machine.

Is the buell the better bike or would another 1000cc v-twin be better. If so please specify which bike and the differences it has to the buell (maybe a tl1000, superhawk, or sv1000). Please don't just bash the buell for no reason like i have seen all over the internet. I have come to you guys because i respect your opinions and know you have the knowledge to back up your opinions with facts. Thanks alot and i look forward to reading your posts.

The reason we haven't responded, is too many of us have a hard time giving Buell ANY positive credit. If you google "buell recalls" you will be shocked and dismayed at what the company has put out on the market and had to recall for safety.

The TL1000... which TL? TL-R or TL-S? IIRC, the TL-S's had some problems, but I am too lazy to look them up now. The R is supposed to be a very solid bike.

SV1000- only heard GREAT reviews. More power than the 650, and not too heavy. Nice torque.

I hoped it helped a little bit... I know it wasn't a very factual post.

Are the XB Buells as bad as the Thunderbolts used to be? I heard that Buell quality had greatly improved with the Blast! and the XB series.

If I'm not mistaken, the FireBolt engine is a dirivative of the Harley Sportster engine.....it vibrates a lot.
You get more bang for your buck on a Japanese bike.
I also like Italian bikes too, but like I said, you get more bang for your buck on a Japanese bike.
Some people like to be different....I learned the hard way with things like repairs, parts, reliability and other miscellaneous things. It's better to stay mainstream, you'll have less problems all around. I think it's pretty safe to say that most of us aren't professional racers, so try to look at things with a real world perspective. You'll hear of a lot of different numbers like weight, horse power, torque, 1/4 mile times, top speed, 0-60, and so on and so on. Unless you're pro, those numbers mean very little. I have an R1, and the only number I'm concerned with is the number of girls that want to go for a ride, no fat chicks! Try to ride different bikes if you could. If you don't know anyone who owns a bike(s), try looking around for anyone selling a bike. Most people will let you ride the motorcycle prior to selling it to you (if you have the cash to back it up....in his hand). Most dealers will not let you test drive them, some will.

I though H-D was as mainstream as one could get in the US of A. Also, isn't an OHV engine easier to work on than an OHC engine?

H-D is mainstream... it mainly streams oil. ;) JOKING BOYS.

Here's the old thread concerning some of the Buell recalls:

Yeah, if you look at the list of recalls, they're all from the older models. The XB's have been 100X better.

More likely Buell hasn't acknowledged the recalls yet, or they are too new to know about most of the horribly designed parts.

Please bump more meaningful threads.

I think you may try to look at their web site for some information about the buell motorcycle....

Hi bengo,

Welcome to AF. Just so you don't feel neglected, the original poster of this thread asked for help nearly 5 years ago. Please don't be offended if they do not respond back to your message.

Thx,
