Hello! Yesterday while driving my 2000 Windstar with a 3.8L the engine light came on, and today the o/d light started flaching. The van runs and shifts properly so what might be the problem. Thanks in advance for the kindness.

welcome gcaf1. There is a search feature at the top right of this page. I have not experienced what you have with my 95 (yet), but, I plugged in "o/d flashing" into the "search forum" box, and didn't like what they said in the threads it found. May God have mercy on your transmission.

You will need to get the OBDII code(s) read to find out what is happening. I would suspect an electronics/sensor concern if there are no perfomance issues happening.

Welcome to the club, my 2000 did the same thing, look for code p0743 (maybe some others) when you get yours scanned
Havent found a solution yet - some members here told me just to check my electrical connections
Additionally - Mine does not shift smoothly and appears to be in "limp mode"

Get it checked soon! Ours had this same problem and just stopped in the middle of the road the other day in a snow storm. Now the entire transmission needs to be replaced. I have searched, and this is a common problem in the 2000!

The Flashing O/D light is an indication of a problem with the transmission. It is electronically controled....and you can hop that you get off easy with a not so expensive electrical problem...but could be as serious as a major transmission failure.
The check engine light (CEL) is an indication of a problem that the computer for the engine is seeing.
You can have those codes read for FREE at many Auto Part stores (Like Autozone). One thing to do is to MAKE SURE that you get the actual NUMERIC code(s) from them. You can post back with the code(s) that you get....and I am certain that someone here has had it.

Yo tuve ese mismo problema y ya lo solucione. Primero tus conecciones electricas, revisa que el arnes este bien sujeto es una coneccion electrica, si el problema persiste cambia el sensor de velocidad y el problema se corrige.
