I dont see why SR20DETpower has to whore up every one of mynismo's threads just because he sold a V-8 powered car that you liked. I think we all get that you dont like him but you dont have to be a douche bag.
and Mynismo... 14psi on Stock injectors? if you want to live on the edge you need to leave your engine out of it and watch Top Gun with the volume turned all the way up.

o yea, those sure sucked  basically i figured i have too much power to hook up. anything 104mph+ is 12's. period. also i haven't driven down the track in a good three months, thats why i couldn't get consistent mid 13's yet, but once i lowered the air pressure a tad and held my shifts, i trapped 106 every time. thats a holy-high-hell trap to be running mid 13's at.
here is another turbocharged 240 running similar....
http://www.dragtimes.com/Nissan-240SX-Timeslip-3492.html
take a look at his time. it's nowhere near mine. its a 13.470 (not 13.407), a 1/8mi trap of 80mph (mine's 84mph), a 1/4mi trap of 102.65 (mine's 106.63), and best yet, his 60' was 1.92, mine was a 2.20.
basically he has .3 seconds at the start of the track more time to hook up then i do, his mph's aren't anywhere near what mine are, and he's running a slower time. his time's almost look comparable to a slightly upped boost car with an lsd and some dr's. for the most part, he has power, is putting it right to the ground and is losing just a little on part of traction in regards to his times. if i could get my 60' down to a 1.92 i'd be running 12.80's.
also note we are running the same amount of boost. for some reason mine pulls a "tad" harder :p man i just read his is dynoing 258whp. holy hell. i gotta get mine to a dyno.
and Mynismo... 14psi on Stock injectors? if you want to live on the edge you need to leave your engine out of it and watch Top Gun with the volume turned all the way up.
whats wrong with 14psi on stock injectors. nothing. injectors are probably around a 110% duty cycle. i got lots of room left to play around with 370's yet (especially on stock turbo). i bet i can use them up to a good 300whp without harm. imagine what i can do with a set of 550's :iceslolan
also forgot to mention, i have a mine's ecu thats tuned for stock injectors/maf/turbo at 1 bar.
I don't like him because he is a ricer boy, sorry I don't like ricers, maybe for that I should hang... but its just my opinion

12.8 on stock turbo at 14psi.. at almost 110mph! if i could get my 60' down to a 1.9 im in the money.

He's obviously not a ricer if he did an engine swap and is racing the car. I have respect for him just because he's going to the track. In socal there are millions of people who build cars and never race them. That's a ricer, and that's someone who doesn't deserve respect.

yeah bandwagon jumper, you sure you had a 240sx for 4 years? cause I don't think its been that long
FYI for all the noobs
his old 240sx used to be his "fast" SOHC ka AUTOMATIC with Seat covers
hahaha
his plans for that car and what he did is why we call him a ricer, now he got some money and is bandwagon jumping all over 240sx's.... I guess if you only saw him post a comment about his NEW 240sx you wouldn't think much of it, but if you knew the entire history behind MyNismoRicer, you would agree with me.

Ok I see now. I hate people with money. Only because I don't have much. I still like that he may be changing though. In this case it sounds like it may be a good thing since his old 240 would probably embarass the rest of us. I used to have people make fun of my civic because it was a 4-door with altezza lights, but when I kicked there ass at the track they thought differently. 14.15 on stock steel wheels. LS/Vtec with a few mods. Consistantly running 14.3's. I hate WRX's, and beating them is a joy I experience everyday with my ricer civic. hahahah

its been 4 years. i bought the gold one right before i got my driver's license and im almost 20.
the "fast" sohc auto was extremely fast for an sohc auto, i give it that much. little did i know it ran 17.2's all day long. after i found that out i decided to sell it, when in fact i should have converted it to a 5psd and did the swap. tough lessons can be learned when you lose enough money. im still pissed to this day that i sold it. (here's the car (http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/236112)). it was the cleanest and definitely the most spotless 240 i've ever seen in my life still up to now. im still trying to buy the thing back, but a "real" ricer guy bought it and he's already starting to screw it up (strobe headlights, soon to be body-kitted).
i don't know how you can call me a ricer when all i did was slave over that car to try to make it fast. i did everything to that sucker minus any kind of swap to make it fast. i didn't do any exterior mods whatsoever besides rims, and the little money i had went into the car. and i don't know how you can call me a ricer as of now because of all the money i've been making (or saved, for that matter), has been going into my car's performance so far. look at the above pic of my engine bay, and the fact that i run low 13's at a high 12 sec time, and call me a ricer. do it. you'll be flamed out of these boards.
im really pissed at all you fucking fags that come in here, call people ricers for doing performance mods when you really don't even have a fucking car or a fucking job, and have mommy and daddy buy you your honda, kit it, and then you come in here and call other people ricers. stfu all of you because you don't have anyone's fucking respect in here and are living quite a pathetic life if you think about it.
i used to hate people with money too.... then i realized i need a job :lol2:
get a damn job, work your ass off, put all your money into your car ('s performance), then come back here and post and you'll feel how i feel.

im really pissed at all you fucking fags that come in here, call people ricers for doing performance mods when you really don't even have a fucking car or a fucking job, and have mommy and daddy buy you your honda, kit it, and then you come in here and call other people ricers. stfu all of you because you don't have anyone's fucking respect in here and are living quite a pathetic life if you think about it.
i used to hate people with money too.... then i realized i need a job :lol2:
get a damn job, work your ass off, put all your money into your car ('s performance), then come back here and post and you'll feel how i feel.
:bigthumb: People change. So what if he was a ricer before, at least now he has a respectable fast car. Though it was wrong of you mynismo to mislead people saying maxima's were the shit just b/c you didn't have a 240 (at one point even told me it handles better than a 240http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif). You also tend to lie sometimes. But, lets hope you have chagned your ways

Suislide can't you see drama is fun. That's why drama makes the most popular tv series up. The OC baby. I respect everyone who works their ass off to build their car. That's why I'm always broke. I have a good job, but three different cars I play with.

i would have to go with mynismo on this one. stock maxima's do handle better then a stock 240 on certain turns becusae its wider and have a longer wheel base. but the major factor in that is that your 240 was 15 years old, and your max was only half its age. so of course comparing blown and worn shocks and bushings can't compare to relatively new components.
now i have to honestly day though mynismo you got some fast ass SR20DET cars. i mean damn your car will definitly beat my car. but not because of power, but because of weight

actually I think 240sx's handle better then 95+ Maxima's.......
those maxima's aren't the best handling ones though, the older ones have a better suspension design... My brother had a 88 long ago and no new maxima could even come close in terms of handling, BIG difference. On the other hand the 95 ones are faster for sure in a straight line.
too bad s13's don't handle as good as my z31
:naughty:
just wait til I get done with that thing....
NExt engine mods.....
higher CR pistons
Stage II Cams
Valvetrain goodies
Pathfinder Intake Manifold mod
MSA Ceamic Coated Headers
CM 2.5" cat back and test pipe
Flowmaster series 40 non Delta or a straight through muffler
its time to show what a N/A VG30E can do, I've seen em rip up I/E 350z's naturally aspirated no NItrous
estimated 225-250rwhp and low 14's with other drivetrain mods
cause you know it wouldn't be my performance car without a change in rear gearing, wider shorter tires, and a LSD
the best thing is it will be fast enough for the street, and I don't have all the headaches a turbo and all its related accessories can cause...plus it should sound pretty fucking mean
when I get done sanding and painting the body flat black I'll post some pics, I also want to fab up some non pop-up headlights

lol...... thanks for the comments guys. tat, the only reason i didn't get an s14 is because of the weight (and because i just love s13's). i test drove one and it was smooth and good looking.. hell, i saved a couple grand going with the s13 too. but the s14's do weigh a good amount more and it does make a fairly big difference down the track and autox.

Hey Nismo, I really don't appreciate you talking about my pathetic life in the open, you hurt my feelings, I ain't got a car, I have a frame of a car, I do have a job, but I don't get paid, it AIN'T MY FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!! I GONNA GO KILL MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way, nice swap, did you do all the work your self????
Since you seem to know your stuff on cars, do you think there will be any adverse effects if I dropped my K-member and inch or two lower??????????
I want my V6 sitting as low as possible, and this will help me keep it as far back as possible.
Like I said earlier, get an LSD, if you can't afford a new one, get one off at the salvage. I had an LSD in my J30, and when I swapped the open diff off my s14, the take off was severly compromised, especially when the roads is wet or, there is sand. One wheel burn outs suck.
Also try moving shit to the back, put some weight on the rear wheels, I prefer adding necesary weight, not 200lbs of speakers and AMPs, move shit like your battery, coolant catch tank, anything that is already in the car and can be moved.
That was a clean S13 you sold, that was a dumb move, but you learn better that way. And for rice, I don't think anyone can call RICE with a swap like that, AND I AIN"T KISSING ASS NEITHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now checkered flag, and baby blue interior and a acura body kit, now thats another story. Keep up the good work.

All I have to say it's very lucky to find a VLSD at $150 lately...YMMV of course but most of the ones I have found are pushing $300 shipped.
I bought a JDM VLSD non-abs...was mismarked a S13 unit. Seems nice and clean and tight.
Now that the Hurricanes are over maybe I can find some time to install it.

Didn't the S14 have a slightly bigger engine bay than the S13?????????? I like the weight saving of the S13, but the S14, had a better spaced interior, not too cramped up. I prefer them, but they seem to call for a bigger motor not another high performance 4 banger. Mine just begged me for that V6, and is patiently waiting.

You do realize cylinders have nothing to do with power, just smoothness.
All I have to say is if you have a streetable 4 banger capable of a 10x-11x MPH 1/4 mile, it doesn't make sense to change that. Without revamping the rearend with possibly tubs you are going to be traction limited (severely). The GT-R does well and can scale higher solely due to it's AWD...
Of course for originality/uniqueness/show cars engine swaps are more important. My plan is a low to mid 13 sec car and be done with it. If I want to turn a 10 sec 1/4 mile I will buy a street bike or a Vega and drop a 592cu in it and about 30sq yards of rubber in the back :). Screw front tires I will use jack stands at the light....they shouldn't touch the ground until I am past the 1/4 mile mark. ;)

SR20, how about posting pics of your car (not of your customers).
Why are you still talking trash anyway????????????????????????????? Other than the R33 in your sig, you've never really backed up your talk with any hard core evidence, so I say Shut the Fuck Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You've been coming down on this kid for the longest, and I say he did a good Job and thats that, do yours and then Talk shit, otherwise quit flapping your Gums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NUFF SAID ABOUT THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually cylinders do have something to do with power, you could have a 5.0 4cyl, but the power being made will not equal that of a 5.0 8cyl, cuz the reciprocating mass will be heavy and very huge, so the RPM range will be highly limited, you will have tons of torque though..... I ain't going to spend the whole day explaining it.
And the reason why I hate 4 bangers is that you are really limited to about a reliable 350-400hp on a daily driver, I know they are 500-600hp 4bangers, but as you said, the power ain't that smooth, and they aren't that reliable, and also thinkk of the shit you'll have to do to get that power. I love big engines in little cars, and thats that, just the way we love to screw petite (not juvenile) girls, shit just fits snug in there.

Well considering I have a ton of physics perhaps it would take you the whole day to debate your beliefs.
I don't know how you are figuring the rotating mass of 4 pistons of equal displacement to the 8 of equal displacement are going to be very huge and heavy (this of course is a non-scientific statement, one that is subjective). When you then take into account the extra valves, springs and more that the 4 extra cylinders will have....
You can believe what you'd like but the potential power of 2.5L 4 vs 8, 5.0L 4 vs 8, etc are going to be very close. Discussions of rpm ranges, balance, block footprint, etc can sway either way depending on application and need.
It would be wonderful perhaps to have the extra 2 or 4 cylinders in a 240SX for smoothness, and the RB series fit that bill nicely, but the chassis is more HP limited due to traction issues than engine ones.

Look I understand fully what you guys are saying, but, don't forget if you have a 5.0 4cyl, imagine the size of each piston, rod and the crunk, they will have to be huge, like those of most diesel trucks, this will greatly limit your RPM range, but with more cylinders you wouldn't need such huge stuff.
Anyway, as you said earlier, it makes the power production smoother. Besides, imagine how hard it will be to get 600hp out of your SR or KA, and keep the engine a daily driver, and pass emissions. It will be very costly, but there are 600-800hp 6cyl that are D.Drivers, and when you go up to *cyl, there some that achieve this with minimal boost. All I am saying is that it is alot easier to get bigger HP numbers with a bigger engine than a smaller one. Not that you can't get the same with a 4cyl engine I just said it ain't that practical on something that sees regular street use.
You are mis-understanding my message, or I am doing a poor job at explining my message.

i agree with you, the sr can handle up to 500whp then its done. 6 cylinders are stronger and easier to get horsepower out of, but they weigh a lot more (traction issues). you have to research yourself, and it depends on the specific car you are going to mod. some cars take swaps better than others.

Crank would not be very different at all....the 8 cylinder one would still weight more.
You are also confusing displacement as requiring both larger rods and pistons....you can do it just just the piston, just the rod, or both....talking clean slate engine design...not increasing displacement of an existing one.
5 liters is 5 liters whether it's 4 cylinders or 12.

power production is not smoother, engine balance is.
bigger engines have bigger displacement I believe you are trying to say. Some larger physically engines have less displacement than smaller counterparts. It's not so simple.
However, with equal displacement you should see similar power levels being obtained with the higher cylinder engine having less harshness and vibrations. Now adding forced induction and the like can see some differences from more cylinders, and some benefits as well for less. Again it's not so cut and dry. Formula 1 I believe still uses 4 cylinders only with turbocharging. Around 3 liters I believe, however they approach 1000HP@20,000 rpms
This is the way the science of it works....which is often contradictory to what the layman believes. The typical test is going from a 200ci straight four to a 350HP V8 and saying a eight cylinder makes way more power than a four.

yes I think SHO is talking out his ass here, how in the hell would a 4 liter 4 clylinder's pistons and rods weigh more thena 4 liter v8's... if anything the v8 is going to weigh more, it will need a larger crankshaft, it will have twice as many connecting rods, and 4 liters is 4 liters, its going to require the same amount of metal to have 4 ltiers of displacement ina 4 banger as it would in a v8... plus the v8's block is going to be bigger and heavier, with two sets of heads on top of that.
now if you were to say a v8 is more balanced then a I4 I would have to agree with you on that
also so what if my car doesn't look good, right now it looks so shitty I don't even want to take a picture of it.. its a mess... but on the other hand I like it that way because it gives me something to do besides go out and break the law. A great example of bigger not always being better is the 944 turbo (which the 240sx is a lot like). You may be able to fit a V8 in one, but I can guarantee you will totally screw the car up in all but 1/4 mile running.
More people than not have no idea what a 500HP 240SX is....I know myself I would not want on as a daily driver even though I could afford to do that. My plan is trying to get 250-350 out of it and be done. I can have the 250 available for cruising and the 350 if I want to run it. If I can't get the range I will shoot for 275 to 300HP. This much power at the wheels is better good. My father has a 5,000lb Bronco with a 408 making in the 300's, of course it's designed to produce torque (something like 400 is available from about 2500rpms and up)....even that beast is quick.

If large displacement 4-cylider motors were any good, you would see them. The engine that belongs in a car is more often than not the best engine for that car. The manufacturer is making a well-balanced machine. Why mess with that. SR20 are capable of plenty of reliable power for a 240sx. There is no need to get a bigger motor unless you want to drag 100%. If anyone plans on putting a bigger engine in a car then expect to have much stiffer spring rates and harder shocks resulting in even worse ride quality. :2cents:

crap.. so many replies in this thread.. sorry if I am repeating someone else, but it appears that your trap speed is way too high for the time.
If you can improve traction in the 60' you will definately be in the 12s with a 106 mph trap.

I have to agree with you on power issues Alkemest, truer words never spoken here all these little kids want 500hp SR20 swapped s13 fastbacks.... been reading super street too much and got caught up in that whole fast n furious and jdm drifting is tyte yo shit

I don't know man what's wrong with getting a lot of power to go autox, or the track on weekends to play around with all that power. I am planning on having around low 400s or high 300s hp range. Bu i thing everything above 250 is quick. enough to kill all the civics and most of the stock cars out there.

Well, unless you have proof of whether he took his car to a shop, like I said, shut up. You are posting tons of hate mail on someone you don't even know, and talking shit of something you don't even have. Like a poor man saying a rich man is stupid for buying a bently, is is a waste of money. If you ask me, or read my ealier posts, you will understand I really don't like SR or KA, I like the 240 only, all I wanted was a good basis for my project, but you don't see me talking shit about other folks swap, I give him props, and thats it, atleast he is doing something, whether he paid for it or did it his damn self.
You work on cars I work on cars,
you have your beliefs on power, I've got mine,
You say his ride is bogus, I say show me yours,
You say he couldn't have done the swap, I say prove it.
And thats that about this SHIT.
Like I said, clean swap, still find it alittle slow, but in a few, he should get it.

Hey Pavlo, good luck beating all civics with 250hp. My civic alone runs 14.1 in the 1/4 mile. It's a 93 4-door with an LS/Vtec and minor mods. I have a couple friends with 350hp+ in civics with b18s and turbos, another friend with 223hp at the wheels NA with a 10,000 rpm redline. I'm not saying all civics are fast, but there are some really quick ones around my house. Someone has to stick up for civics. I have a 240sx aswell.

i don't see whats the whole point of arguing over how a certain hp is achieved. if it makes 250whp it makes 250whp. who cares. the end result is more likely the same as the other. i wouldn't give a shit if someone put a v8 in a 240. i mean that would be great casue its rare. i don't care if SR guys chose the SR path etc. as long as they don't talk trash about the other guys choice of engine or power mods, i wouldn't get mad. but seriously whats the point of arguing about this? i find it kinda dumb. and yes there are plenty of fast hondas that i wouldn't want to race. however coming across one is 1 in 1000. and most turboed V-tec hondas make around the same whp as me if not alittle less, but its their weight that makes them faster on the highway. from a stop i'm pretty i'll take them up to a certain speed before they pass me. so from a stop light drag i'll have more then enoguh of a chance to take them out. like you said you've got friends with turboed hondas. well so do i. how do they like playing catch up every race? my friend has to short shift to second, and gently get on the gas so he won't spin. by that time the guys long gone, and he has to play catch up big time. hes sick of it.
edit: 106 @13.4 is perfect trap speeds and 1/4 mile E.T. every other mid 13 second car traps at 105-106 mph area. to get into the high 12's you need to start trapping at 110+
case in point: Ferrari F360 modena traps at 112mph and runs a 12.8
dave coleman's SSC project silvia traps at 110 mph and runs a 12.9
the only time you will see a car run 12's and trap that low ( 104-109mph ) will be in a big V8 with a shit load of tq running 1.6 60ft times
case in point: a guy in my class has a cuda and he runs a 12.04 at 106mph and i'm liek what!!?!?that is a very slow trap speed, but he runs a 1.6 60ft.
and i wish your friend good luck with his 10K rpm civic. casue its not goin to last very long, its goin to spin a rod bearing from all that high rpm load.
i also know a guy with a n/a EG6 civic that runs 12's on slicks. he has a 9K redline B18C1 tuned, with 12:1 comp pistons, open headers ( on the track ) skunk 2 stage cams, port and polish head, v-tec controller and more stuff.
he blew his engine not too long ago and now hes goin the turbo charged way.
i know i sound like a hypocrit but such a high strung n/a engine is really really not reliable.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhh maybe because when he first bought that car and showed the pics of the bronze valve cover and the engine going into the car HE HIMSELF SAID it was at a shop getting installed?
that would be a good reason for me to say a shop swapped it.......
why don't you go find that old thread sonny
-----------------------------------------------------------
ALSO TAT, that is not nessecarily true... sure I would say that engine is more high strung then your ka-t and probably not as reliable... but I gurantee that engine is more reliable then a 400hp SR20 with a cam swap....and is probably more fun to drive. It also really is not that aggressive, what 9krpm redline on a B18c? thats nothing for that motor, on the other hand it seems a lot of people think turbo's are reliable... this is a sad fact of life. Because when you turbocharge your vehicle you introduce a lot more parts on it, anyone of these parts can go faulty easily, on a turbocharged setup, there are a lot more things that can go wrong and mess up your motor... I'm not talking user abuse or even if u have a good setup..all it takes is one part malfunctioning one time and you could be rebuilding a motor.
I hope we can all agree that 9krpm is not as bad as 30 psi of boost at 6k rpm

One problem with your numbers above....I believe each one of those cars was *traction* limited....hence probably terrible 60 foots....I suppose you are implying the Modena does not have a lot of torque?
Also in regards to the guy who's intention is of running 400HP+ for autox ??? the idea is to not hit the cones like a football going for the extra point :). I knew quite a few 944 turbo guys that backed off on their power while autoxing....
but to each his own on that aspect.
Also I can't understand how a car forum still has people thinking HP / TQ are meaningful when comparing two different cars. 250HP in a 240SX is a lot different than a Civic. Plus where that power is made (rpm) the gearing of the cars in question, FR, FF, weight, etc all play a HUGE part in this equation.
There is always going to be someone faster....my goal is to make the most capable street car and keeping it a street car. Hell with 14's and knowing how to drive it you can hand most guys their ass everyday, even if they are driving cars capable of 13's.

106............ is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy high for a 13.4. its a 2.2 60' for christ sakes! i go to norwalk or dragway 42 every other week and every car passing a 104mph or better is doing 12.9's. you cant look at what a fucking modena does. they never built up the traction in that car, therefore it cannot launch, and is having MAJOR traction issues. 112 is closer to a 12.3-12.4 et. and do you know why the project silvia traps 110 at 12.9's??????? its because he's still open diff!!!
you do NOT need a 1.6 60' to run 12's. my buddy did it with a 2.0 60' (still a kinda crappy time), and he runs 12.9's all day.
i don't know where all this misconception is that a 240sx cannot run a 12.9 with stock turbo. IT CAN. give me some freakin slicks and ill run 12.7's all day with a 1.9 60'.
what tat is saying is that light cars can't hook up, and they will never be able to hook up because they don't have enough torque. that isn't true.
traction > torque
