hahahaah awesome! i cant wait for my first knee-dropping experience!

by the way i have to agree, i really did like the feel of the 'baby blade', it felt so light and nimble and you sat 'in' it rather than on it, like the gsx Across, but thats not to say the across isnt a comfortable bike, its just a less race-feel, and cmon man, think of the storage!!!

tried on a nice A stars jacket too! was gonna try on some hjc helmets but stupid my had to be all fashionable and put gel in his hair, didnt he!

get used to helmet hair dude. easiest way to pick the fake bikers at a club is the guy with a Diesel or Morrisey leather bike jacket and a head full of product! :loser:

wouldn't worry to much about it when your trying on helmets. you don't have to by the one you just soiled. same goes for underpants

i want a new alpinestar jacket but it doesn't go with my pants.

i know its sacrilege, but for my birthday i made my wife buy me a Ventura bike rack. i know, i know its a sports bike and not a tourer but i'm getting old and don't want to carry a back pack any more.

also hoping for an Andersons bike stand :)

oh and guys, my loan was APPROVED! heheh picking up the cash on monday, getting licence wednesday and thursday, and buying bike on friday..

any tips on what i should look for on the bike? what i should feel for while giving it a test ride? any help with buying a used bike (especially one thats been used a fair bit) would be really helpful.. :) :)

My first inspection is the forks (make sure they are dry and there is no leaking oil or signs of distress, bending, or whatever) That is to make sure there wasn't an accident or a bunch of wheelies. Then I check up under the tail and body to make sure there aren't little bits of rubber from burnouts. I am picky about my bikes, and I don't want some machine that was beat to piss by some lil barstool squiddie. MAKE SURE THE BIKE IS COLD WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT! If an owner knows the bike is hard to start or has problems starting, they might have gone and "warmed it up for you". I personally won't even look at a bike if it's already warm. I tell them I will come back another time when it has not been started. Check chain, tires, headlights, brake lights (both switches), horn... Um, I can't think of the rest right now, but that's a good start.

10-23-2004, 01:06 PM
awesome thats a great start :D :D thanks alot for the help... the guy is selling a little lower than the rest of the guys who are selling the same kind of bike, but it could just simply be that he needs quick $$$, im fairly hesitant though, so i'll make sure to give it a real thorough inspection...

would you recommend looking for oil at the forks after a test drive? if there is a problem i'd suspect he'd have it all cleaned off, but maybe it would be better to give the bike a bit of a workout, then check...

once again tange, thanks a bunch :) if i get it (5 days from now), ill be sure to post pics straight away :D

(yes roll your eyes and laugh, its a piece of poo 250, but i'll be prouder than freddy's dad)

since its a 250, check for drop damage more than wheelie damage.if it has an aftermarkt exhaust, ask for the original or check the flange for scrapes. bar ends and clutch covers are also easy targets

check the front brakes for warped discs.
check the chain and sprockets for wear.

Hey Blayne, did you get your Blade's dashboard panel fixed or whatever? So what's current mileage now? You mentioned something about odo starting from 0. Any aftermarket seats for the saddle, the stock seat looks like an ass-killer.

Btw is 80 kmh (50 mph) on the twisities that fast? :D I go that fast on the cages while on a narrow c and s-curve.

hrmm... bit of bad news... loan was approved, but i discovered the interest rate was something around the 19% area, so i told them to stick it up there arse.............

aussieidiot
10-26-2004, 04:14 AM
thats a bugger dude. have you tried a personal loan with a bank?

Z, my blades just over 1 year old now with 500k's (310miles). it should have 6500k's (4000miles)

as for the twisties, its an 80k zone but on the corners i average 100 (65) and top out on the straights at 190k's (120mph)
considering this road is narrow with gravel and debris in parts and many repaired potholes, it makes for interesting riding

stock seat is ok but the pillion suffers.

Lyndon, save those pennies and get a used on with straight up cash. It should be cheaper too, to buy it from a private owner.

Blayne, any knee-dragging involved? hehe.

aussieidiot
10-27-2004, 02:42 AM
no knee draggin. my style doesn't get close. i scrape my toe sliders and hero knobs on my foot pegs, but no knees.

just ordered a new front sprocket. 1 tooth down. maybe now she'll wheelie under first gear power without clutch. problem is i'll have to buy a new speedo that runs off a wheel instead of the gearbox

Gotta question for ya Aussie, which roots from another topic. Why don't manufacturers incorporate ABS to more and more bikes? I know it takes away the fun of sliding or adds tenths of seconds to total braking power during an emergency braking. But it has become a safety issue when many new riders lock their brake during leans.

speediva
10-31-2004, 11:12 AM
I do NOT want ABS on my bike, that's for sure... I hate it when my brake pedal pulses under my FOOT... can you imagine having your HAND feel that sensation? NO THANKS. My dad's new bike (ST1100) has ABS and traction control, and I refuse to ride it.

aussieidiot
11-02-2004, 12:56 AM
i know that honda had a linked braking system but riders weren't happy because it removed all 'feel' of the brakes. with ABS, i'd be worried of a highside if it locks, slides and gets grip all in a split second

nice work girl go team!

now to my story of the week, sit down kiddies and ill spin you a rhyme, one or warning and intrigue, of passion and romance, excitement and glory and danger....ok here goes.

first last night i was riding around looking 4 a big car park that me and the boys could use to practice our drifting and tyre frying without the worry of kerbs and trees getting in the way, anyway ended up on private property and got chased by a fat secutiy guard with a torch.............really amusing watching him run :)

then i was driving up a nice straight hill heading to my ladies house (romance, passion :smokin:) from a mates place. dead straight hill so i flawd, it going about 130 over the hill (70 zone) when i saw the paddy wagon and the cop with the radar......ooops! this is all with out that wonderfull thing called a drivers licence. tried to slow down but by tjhis time he had reading which was almost twice the limit, saw the lights and heard the siron, thought f@ck it im outa here. dropped 2 gears and gave it hell, hit about 170 down the otherside of the hill about 400 metres down i turned left along my gf's street, got up 2 about 140 there, it was a gentle curving road which leeds to a roundabout, as i lost sight of the main road around the corner i saw the cop car turn onto her street, then i was outa sight turned right then right again then left down another street. turned the bike off and hid under a low tree. didnt c the cops again, went to hers another way and hid the bike in the garge.

they didnt get my tags luckily enough, if they had i would have just faced the music not ran.

so shit hey thats my excitement for the week! bloody hell!

lesson of the day bikes are faster than cars but ull need a head start with a 250.....lol

what is it with aussies and outrunning cops

similar story. i was two up on my gixer 750 cruising at 85k's in a 60, over a crest and a highway patrol going the other way with a side radar. as soon as we passed he hit the lights but couldn't u-turn quick enough due to traffic. my mate hung his ass over the plate as i booted it and went around two lefts and hid in a private high school until the sirens stopped. i left my mate there and took my jacket off. went back to his house slowly and carefully and got his car and went back to get him.

very dumb but so much fun. hey i just invented my new motto.

this is side on (obviously) with the grab handle attached but shows the rails that it uses to attach to the bike

and with the pack and full rack in position. it also reverses so that the pack sits over the rear seat but it just touches the cowl. don't want any scratches now

we are living with my in-laws while we build our house. its a 6 acre block out in a rich suburb of huge mansions in the bush. only their house is not quite a mansion. only 4 bed 2 bath joint.

the frame is so strong that i can't bend it back so that it doesn't touch the cowl. its speed rated to 150k's (around 80mph). it takes 65L but i'm not sure on the load in lbs or kg's

anyhow. got the blade serviced and change the front sprocket down one tooth. that got rid of the annoying flat spot around 3000rpm down to around 2200. just low enough to make cornering smoother.
big bonus was a 150k wheelie under power!! going flat out along a nice bush road, hit a bump and gave a bit more throttle and up she came. woohoo!!!

i guess it just me here talking to myself

any way now with my new found grunt down low, my rear tyre has become less effective in the wet. so much fun trying to accelerate in the wet while the tyre spins up a little or worse on corners and you feel just the slightest slide start. my tyre is only just above the indicator level but is definately due for a new one. its one year old and 7000k's (4350miles)

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/171274tyre.jpg

any suggestions on a new one?

i used to run Pirelli corsa dragons on my gixer but can't get them any more. i have Michelin Pilot sport on as standard fitment but they are now replaced by the Pilot Power. ps i hate dunlop d208's

hey every1

well had my first near death experience on thursday, was doing one of my favourite rides late thursday night. its a long windey road that is located near the edges of perth so its a half country lika area, with like no lights of any sort and gentle curves and long straights, all in all a tops ride.

however i will b riding there no longer as i nearly got to know the tarmack a little better when i came withion feet of hittling a big roo.
i was in the left section of the lane going bout 120, roo jumped out right in front of me bout 20 meters or so, broke heavily and by the time i passed within feet of the thing, it was in the right part of my lane, so i just missed it.

so in the imortal words of 'Turkish' from 'Snatch'
"your life doesn't fllash b4 your eyes, becasue u r too fucking scared, you just pull a stupid face"
(or something of that sort)

Careful ppl, u only die once (unless ur a buddist:))

damn dude, those things are scary in a freaking CAR, let alone a bike! i'd hate to think of the damage! (and im not talking about your Ninja!)

My story:
i was going though the carpark of the local shopping complex in my car, and yes, i was obeying the road laws and going rather slow (mostly because it was fairly full and people could step out anywhere anytime)

And BAM, this fu#*er L plater on a 250 comes flying round the corner ahead of me, and into my lane! I saw his forks dipping hard as he realised "oh shit" and i slammed my anchors on as well.
As we both came to a halt we just kinda stopped and looked at eachother for a second with that look that Pete was just talking about (even though he had a helmet on, i knew his expression had to be similar to mine) i wasnt fearing for my life, or my cars safety at the time, i was more focused on him and his bike and what was going to happen..
And he didnt even give me a thumbs up or a nod to say "thanks for brakin mate"....

point to the story? next time, YOU COME INTO MY LANE, I DONT BRAKE FOR YOU.. simple hehehe jk :D

you can try lacquer or enamel colors. acrylic might be faster and easier, but less-resistant to abrasion. the best is lacquer, but it's very toxic and not available everywhere. enamel requires several coating and takes longer to dry, but it's tougher than acrylic.

hey lyndon. long time.......yadda yadda.

check with an airbrush artist who does helmets first. the last thing you want to do is weaken the outer shell with a paint or cleaning product. also try to email the manufacturer of the helmet and ask them.

lol, hey, i followed the pattern, first kawi, honda, gix, now yammy.

but it always comes down to gix and yammy for me, my vision is to take the front fairing of gix and mold it with yammy's tank, and you get something that resembles and feels like MV F4, except the undertail. I like the mono-headlights.

I actually had an interview for a job at one of the biggest Suzuki/Kawi dealer here, stupid me, blew it off and didn't show up. these guys had over 400 bikes and atvs on stock. those new gixxers up close are fuk'n sweet, very aerodynamic.

aussieidiot
12-13-2004, 01:10 AM
aw come on guys.......

Z is right. the 750 was more than my blade but the story goes....
driving in a friends WRX (no jokes please) and he mentioned that the bike store was having a runout sale on most models. i wasn't even looking for a new bike although missed my old one (was without for 3 years due to property purchase). all in one day i persuaded the misses to let me have one as it was a bargain at 15k reduced from 19k, got the finance and rode out the next day. the GSXR750 was still 18k as it was a new model then.

i'm a gixer boy at heart. once a hooligan, always a hooligan but at least my ass is on a bike again. i'm just not fond of the gixer style and colors right now.

but i'll accept any challenge for a race...... come on down yankees.....

no.on second thought. don't. please. coz you'll probably kick my plush and well cushioned ass

I'll admit, with Honda, you can get away with almost anything, and it'll still keep its composure.

Except that gixxer needs to pick up their pace at the GP.

General complaint I hear about streets gixxers are that even though it's all out track-oriented, the tanks is the fattest, so less easier to get around, and the top end power in 600s (>12K rpm) are less compared to other 600s. And there are plenty of shaking and vibrations when you're hitting the 5 digits range or redlining. But their sounds are the best, the stock exhaust emits a loud and raw roar.

aussieidiot
12-14-2004, 12:20 AM
to tell the truth, i didn't like the styling then either. i couldn't see the dials. i had to look down thru from the top of the screen. (i'm 6 foot 4). i was looking at the current range of 600's and a YZF1000 thunderace. the 1000 made me shit my pants but the 600's didn't "feel" much faster than my 250.

the gixer was in my price range and once i rode her, i had to have it.

as for the question regarding what i'd start on if we didn't have restrictions down here, that a bloody hard question. its like asking if you were born a chick would you like guys? it didn't happen so who knows. it was never an option but......

if i was starting out with zero experience and money was ok, then i would have gone out and got a fireblade or YZF1000. but i had no one to advise me at the time, and i would want the latest and greatest just to show off. once i rode my 250 for awhile i was grateful thats all i had. as i said above, the thunderace scared me shitless after 18months riding experience. even when the r1 came out i was still happy with the gixer as an everyday ride.

Z_Fanatic
12-14-2004, 01:08 AM
:D I asked because I got the impression that if you were here, you definitely would've gotten a 600 to begin with, since you're a hooligan and all. lol.

The power of 750 back then was probably close to today's 600s, so I can see why you were satisfied for a while. Btw, I know you got into an accident with it once and punched a guy, but why did you get rid of it again? Did you say it before once and I missed it? Or was it because you sold it to support your property purchase?

My riding days were over before I could even get seat time.... :( only time will tell now how long I have to wait.

got two sessions on video viewed from my tank. looks pretty cool. new max speed was 259k's measured by radar. chewed my tyres but it was all good

are the memories of my fizzer. what size is it Z?

I'd be insane to get any 750/1000 right now, so it's the 1990 FZR600 Genesis.

91.00 HP in the crank @ 10500 RPM.

For a bike manufactured in 1990, it only has 13K some miles on it. There definitely are some repairing needs to be done, like gluing parts of the lower fairing together. There are some scratches and dents in the tail section since the bike has been dropped to left side once, the seller claims it was there when he bought it, he's the second owner. The rear brake caliper is useless, the guy tried bleeding it, but didn't work, so the drum and what not is disfunctional, pretty much the rear brake needs replacement. The rear tire is worn out, will need to replace that asap. Front brake is ok, but the forks and suspensions are squabbly, not surprising, since that's what FZR600s were fitted with. He said he cleaned the carbs. He also put a jet kit on it and already had full-exhaust, and it's true, the bike is a screamer, like 250cc 2-stroke GP bike. Brake oil, engine oil probably needs changing as well. The throttle needs to be tuned and lubricated, because in order to start the engine, throttle needs to be opened first. It takes 5-10 mins of warm-up for the bike to be running good and fast, due to the jet kit. But the good part is, the engine seemed smooth as ever, no rattling or fluttering. That's all that seemed apparent at first inspection. All and all, I am picking it up this Sunday, after Christmas, hehe.

All things considered, it seemed like a reasonable purchase, it was helluva lot cheaper and convenient than Ninja 250/500. The baby Ninjas here are all selling like hot-cakes this year, new or old, so prices are up.

I was close to buying a 1996 Honda F3, but due to condition of the bike, poor salesmanship etiquette, and raw power of the bike, I backed off. I could have negotiated with the price and afford it regardless, but the guy was being a dick.

Anyway, Fizzer carrys a long history of Yamaha's sportsmanship. Oh yeah that's right, you had the 250rr, how well did it go? I would've gotten the 250 or 400, but rare to see one for sale.

I'll be helmet hunting this week, hopefully, my ever compressing purse can afford an Arai or Shoei.

My father knows about my purchase, but it'll be hell when my mother finds out.
