I haven't driven any other honda's so far and am not curious to how much better say a D16A6, D16Z6 or D16Y8 is. Has any one ever driven both a D15B1 and then a D16Z6 Vtec? I don't know if it's me or what but the d15 is weak. Now how weak is it from experience and how much am I missing from......say......driving a 95 ex coupe civic? Is the D15B1 peppy or am I missing out on the honda stock performance action?

yea man, really huge difference even between a d15b1 and the d16a6. me and brian (hybrid1990crx) took a run against each other the one night and he killed me by like 3 car lengths or something...and that was with his timing off. i have a video of it too, haha.

i went from a d15b2 to my z6 hehe. definetly a difference. but when i used to be driving my stock d15b2 around, my friend would once in awhile let me drive his Turbo Z6 hehehehe, now that was fun.

I concur. I sent from D15B, to ZC, to B16 and its not hard to know wich is the most fun.
I couldn't believe the DX motor.. One time I tried to see how fast it could go and I had a hard time getting above 120km (around 80mph) and now I can't believe that all I have to do is give the gas a nudge and I'm from 120 to 180 in seemingly no time..

is the d16y8 faster than the ZC?

d15b1 motor is the worst ever... my bro has that motor in his car (stock) except 5zigen exhaust, and when we are driving next to each other, he will be in 2nd gear, i will be in 4th gear and i will just step on the gas and just pull away...lol... but i think the d15b1 has like 70-80 hp (so like hybrid1990crx said "drop the d and get a b") lol!!!!

from what i've read, either or would win depending on the driver. Then you gotta factor out who's a better driver, who's car is heavier, better tires, ect ect. I've went from a d15b2 to a d15b2 again to a d16y8. I LOVE IT. But now the power doesn't seem like it's there anymore, so i'm off to a b series this winter.

I have the D15B1 and yes I agree it is quite underpowered, definitely not a performance engine but it gets great mileage and it's pretty quick from a stop because of the lightweight body, meaning quick for a stock economy engine :p I would love to get a B16 (?) the integra vtec engine (one of them?) anything with more power... actually I want to someday put the powertrain and rear subframe from a RX7 into my civic but that will mean not driving it for a long time while I chop up the back end of the car to put in rwd parts...
a 13b rotary in a civic would be sweet to drive :)

There ya go dude. The d16y8 is 127hp...and since it is a D you won't need mounts or even a tranny, if you are on a budget and need to spread out expenses. However the 4-speed L3 tranny you have now is not geared well. Even a DX tranny would be better...it is geared the same as an Si tranny, but with a different final drive ratio.
The d16y8 will basically take the same wiring as any MPFI conversion, although since it is a OBD-II motor, you'll most likely want to do some of the creative stuff that LadyNRedSi or 91CivicDXDude have done to keep some of the 4g brains and make the swap a li'l easier. Search around here or at www.4thgenerationcivic.com for more details.
I guess I have alot in store when getting another civic of another generation. And to think I thought I was driving slow.
Dude..you don't need a newer Civic...just a better motor (i.e ZC or b16a)or a motor from a newer Civic. (I see a swap in this man's future heh-heh) :sly: :iceslolan :evillol: :naughty:

D15B1 only has 70hp SOHC non-Vtec. See the difference. I'm not trying to dis other D's on here.

You know what I am amazed at the durability of the DB15 went I bought my CRX it had 235,000 miles and the motor couldnt have been stronger!...Considering that Iam a college student I decided to keep it for the time being, I did have a B16 in the garage but I decided to buy all the performance parts so that I can install everything at once. I drove that car alot, I must have had at least 12 or more round trip drives between Utah and Los Angeles, and the car never gave me one problem. When I finaly laid it to rest the car had 276,000 Miles on it, and I still have the motor in the garage just incase something happens to my B16. But you cant compare it to the SOHC VTEC. SOHC VTEC is nice but not as nice as DOHC VTEC!!! Heheheheh....

There is a big differnce in the d15b1 and d15b2. I'm going to go the ls-vtec route though. Maby a turbo to mix things up heh

You know what that is a nice set up...Thats currently what I have in my car. I had the bottom end rebuild with some new internals, my head has some work done to it, and just with that..it is so sick!!! The torque is so nice and then when VTEC hits forget about it!!!! I would recomend LS/VTEC to anyone anyday!!! It's one of the best swaps...I want to try the B20/VTEC next I'm in the proccess of looking for a B20 in good condition...But Yeah LS/VTEC = Sweet Setup and happy Racer!!!!

hum, anyone know if a b20 crank has a longer stroke than a b18? and the bore size? heh a LS/VTEC stroker... Thats got me wandering now, kinda curious
Mtrujillo

Yeah the B20 does have a longer stroke and bigger bore size. It is afterall a 2.0 and not a 1.8
