'00 Impala Ls Won't Start Right Away

I have a couple issues. The biggest problem is that when I start my Impala, the engine won't turn over unless I press the accelerator a couple of times. The second problem is that when I'm driving, sometimes the car will slow down and I get no response when I press the accelerator, then all of a sudden the car will take off! Third, many times when I'm in motion the engine light will come on and the car will go dead and I have to shift it into Neutral really quick and turn it back on because I can't steer and I'm normally still rolling through an intersection or on the freeway!

Starting problem could be the fuel pressure regulator. My 2000 was having similar starting problems, replaced the fuel pressure regulator and it was fixed. Also, just yesterday I recieved a safety recall notice from GM that said to have the pressure regulator replaced. Recall said something about higher than usual rate of regulator diaphram leaks and potential fire hazard with a leaky pressure regulator. I took my car to the dealer and showed them the recall. They replaced the pressure regulator with an updated version. The recall number is 03054. Hope this can help.
