p0743 - tranny code in 00 windstar

Hi all, new to this forum

I've got a flashing OD light on my 2000 windstar :banghead: ; the car has about 52k miles. The tranny is eratic and I guess its in 'limp mode'. I scanned it and got the code p0743 - then cleared the computer and after scanning I got the same code plus a bunch of other tranny codes (soleniod A,C)

I recall reading a while back there is some harness on the tranny prone to damage - though I could not find the post again.

I'd appreciate any input on the subject. Thanks in advance!



PS: This just happens as I was about to fix an egr problem stemming from a defective front valve cover design on fords part (bank 1,2 lean).

It sounds like a wiring issue. The solenoids are powered from a single source, so if two are out, it tells you that the power is likely the problem as the EEC switches them on by closing the ground to the appropriate sol.

The wire harness pins in the trans connecotr may be corroded, you may have a blown fuse, or even the solenoid pack itself may have an internal problem. In any event, a tear-down of the trans is not needed.

I experienced a problem with '99 tranny shifting that turned out to be the drivetrain harness rubbing against a/c tubing on the firewall near the PCM. 3 conductors, one for solenoid A, were worn and striking ground. You have to remove the wipers and cowling to properly inspect.

Where exactly is the trans connector located - I'm trying to find it on alldata but no luck

This post is a few years old but I am having the same issues. The transmission shifts good and the van is running good (1998 Windstar) so I am thinking that I do not have any major issues with the transmission. I am also getting the P0743 code but do not know where the connection is to check. This code is keeping me from having the vehicle inspected and comes back as soon as I have it reset. Any input on what to look for is appreciated.
