I have a problem in my 95 Windstar. Occasionally, the rignt interior turn signal goes crazy and blinks rapidly when it is activated, sounding like a machine gun. I dont think the exterior signal does the same.

Can anyone tell me how I can repair this?

Thanks.

Check the exterior lamps to be sure. If one exterior lamp is out, the blinking speeds up quite a bit on most older systems.

When our Sable's turn signal goes nuts it means the bulb is blown. Replace the bulb, it will stop.
I think in older cars there isn't a dash light to let you know. When older models were made a very fast 'blinking' turn signal on the dash was the indicator for burned out bulb.

Checking all lamps operative or not is the first trick and if you found one faulty then change . dohhhhh..But, you mentioned only intermitently it will flash /speraticly. I had some problems with my windshield washer fluid not spraying when activated with button on end of signal arm (for lack of a better term) Then the winshield wipers would only work if I wasn't using the turn signals and vice versa. The flashers would go crazy at times as well I knew then, it had to be the arm that was having some faults and went to a wrecker and picked up the wire harness & a new actuator arm.. $25.00 and sure enough when I finally got into the area I found that the harness wires were cut from abrassion I assume from activating the turn signal arm. I replaced the harness and the arm (while I was at it) and all mechanisms meraciously started working.. Windstars.. bahhhh humbug! Fords laboutr would have been 2.5 hours @$72.50 pr. hr. and the arm was another cool $185.00 and the harness I never even checked into (but was the main problem) sooo... lets say $60.00 probably more.. but let's go with that.. and a grand total with tax.. almost $500.00 clams! Ouchh.. I have to get into the business!..

don't feel bad if it is the T/S assembly (aka Multi Function Switch). The Ford parts are typically under $100. I just replaced one in a '99 GMC P/U Thursday, OUR discounted cost was $254!!!!! List was over $300. Oh, on the GMs, you HAVE to remove the steering wheel. 2.5 hr flat rate.

I've changed MFS is Fords in under 15 minutes, and as long as 30 minutes, so the 2.5 you were quoted was robbery.

Check the lights first, if you don't find any faults there (they all work) and everything is flashing normally, wait until they flash rapidly THEN while they are acting up recheck the lights. You will know if it's wiring, the switch or the bulbs by wether or not all the lamps work.

Also, what year is you WS?
