Speedometer problem?

I am considering buying a 99 SC2 with 26,000 miles for my daughter. The only problem that I found was that after the engine is turned off and the key is removed from the ignition, the speedometer moves at the 0 (zero) mph setting for about 10 seconds. There is also a clicking sound coming from the speedometer during those 10 seconds.
I never encountered this problem with any car that I have owned. I have searched Saturns TSB's, this forum, and Google for a possible explanation.
Any ideas of what is causing this?
Thanks,
Frank

I have a Saturn Sl1 and when I first bought it I had the speedometer replaced 2 times due to a ticking noise when the digits moved on the counter. I enjoy my car but its a booger to work on and the dealer will steal you blind in uneeded repairs. They tried to get me to pay for spark plugs and wires that I did not authorize and then I found that the plugs they put in were filthy and not even gapped correctly. I did not pay for the plugs or wires by the way, but I can get really nasty when I comes to my money and MEN trying to rook me becuase I am a WOMAN.

Fordlady,
The mechanic at the dealership is going to replace the instrument cluster. I will check out the car again this Saturday. If it is fixed, I will probably buy the car. Hope the quality of this car is as good as my 92 Saturn SL. Goes to show you - buyer beware..

I really love my car, but as you say buyer beware. I will probably make my next car a Ford Sport Trac or an Excursion to fit the family in. I like the Vue but all the problems and the way Saturn puts the motor and parts together makes it hard for your Non Saturn mechanic to work on.
