Loss of Fuel, Odometer, A/C, and Outside Temp

A couple of days ago I lost the Odometer readings, Speedometer, Miles to Go shows as Error, Outside Temperature shows Err, A/C compressor will not work, and the ABS warning light is constantly on.

I believe these are on the same cirsuit since they cut out at the same time.

Looking in the engine compartment, I removed the air filter assembly and found a Purple wire with an orange stripe/ Black wire just dangling. I have not been able to find where it goes. There shouldn't be too many places since it is not that long.

I'm hoping that reconnecting the wire will fix my other troubles as described above.

Anyone have help?

What year model?

Do the wires both go to a plastic connector? Male or female?

It is a 99 Windstar LX.

The wires go to a connector that fit around another connector. I would say it a female looking for a male.

Also, this disconnected wire branches from a harness that is attached to the frame of the body located just in front of the Wiper motor assembly. I tried to locate an empty connector within the radius of where the wire reaches but did not find anything.

Another important note is the connection that is just under the master cylinder is drench in fluid. My wife seems to remember the ABS warning light coming on while driving but it was intermittant. I've notice some posts about Fuse 10 and my problems are centered around the same devices that Fuse 10 supplies though Fuse 10 is not blown out.

What you are describing is the connector that goes to the "hood open" (my words) switch. Its in plain view, at the rear left of the engine box -- just at the hood line. Your model may not have that switch, in that case the connector is just a harmless extra.

However, that connector that you say is drenched could well be the problem. It is after/in-line fuse #10 and is one of the inputs to the speed control servo unit.

Get that area cleaned up. You may have a leaking/bad brake fluid pressure switch, if so, replace it.

Had a feeling the disconnected wire might be an "extra".

Will try cleaning and/or replacing the Speed Control Servo Unit

Tried cleaning the servo but it did not work. Will try to replace it next.

I am assuming the servo is a circular part that screws into another part. If it is, is it normal for brake fluid to come out of the part it attaches to when I remove the servo?

Onboard computer says Fuel Data Error and Oil Error when I run a system test. All other fluids check out ok though.

I think you are talking about a "brake fluid pressure switch" that is attached to the brake master cylinder. The switch would have a two elect conductor connector. I have never removed this particular switch, but would not be surprised that some fluid would escape and would have to be replaced.

The "speed control servo" is a much larger device. You will find it directly under the air filter cartridge. An aluminum-plastic box thing with a actuator cable linkage that goes up and connects to the throttle body.

Did the symptoms change when you had the pressure switch disconnected? Just curious. This switch may not be the main culprit, but it should not be leaking. It may still be working electrically but I doubt it. An ohmmeter could be used to see if it is normally "open" and "closes" with only 5 psi.

Found it. After looking at the correct part and determining it looked fine, I decided to revisit the fuses. Sure enough old #10 was blown. I actually pulled out the wrong one the last time.
