Should I trade in the SRT-4 for an STi?

Well I'm no longer upside down on my loan. That's my first reason for considering an upgrade. And let's be honest...trading in my front-wheel drive SRT-4 for an all-wheel drive STi would be one helluvan upgrade. I've test driven an '04 STi and nearly shat myself when I felt how well it handled. Power was similar. The shifter needs to be replaced with a shorter throw, but other than that I have no criticisms. What a car!
As I see it my two options are to 1.) return the car to stock, sell off my mods, and then accept blue book value from a Subaru dealership or 2.) sell the car on my own, mods included, and get a little more money.
What do you guys think? I value your opinions. In fact, about a year ago I came here asking a similar question after some old fart totalled my '02 Spec V.

1.Always sell your mods separatelly. most people are afraid that modded cars have been abused.
2.Make sure you get an 05 STi they are far superior to 04's. They get a yaw sensor to give more info to the DCCD and most importantly they diched that stupid old diff up front and they got instead a proper helical diff. The interior is better, the steering ratio is smaller, and the new short throw they offer is supposed to work wonders for the shifts.
3. Consider the new Evo MR. It has better aerodinamics, bilstein struts tuned quite extensivelly on the the Nurburing, active center diff, al roof, bbs wheels, and a proper helical diff up front that the regular 03/04 evos missed.
4. you need to post more here on AF and not ditch us like you did your the srtforums

LOL. I still lurk a lot. I'm just an extraverted post whore in the SRT forums. So many youngins that needs to be learned, you know? ;)
The Evo MR is out. Not for anything performance related, but it doesn't offer side airbags. Both the 'ol lady and I agree that these are a must nowadays.
As far as removing mods...does it effect private party sales negatively too? I know a dealership would naturally go over the car with a fine tooth comb, but I would thing most car enthusiasts would just consider it one less mod for them to have to buy.

side airbag, schmide airbag just just get an inflatable rubber pilow and if you see a car about to t-bone you just blow it up really fast. Or just ride with a down pillow stuffed between the door and seat. See problem solved.
And yes mods will affect private sales even more. Unless the guy that buys it from you is a good friend and knows that you did the mods perferctly and you did not abuse the car. Otherwise is hard to trust a stranger to have done a good job.
Plus most enthusiats like to do their own mods.

I think the STi is a safer car. Don't even think that an SRT-4 is safer then an Evo. I've heard horror stories about SRT-4 cars getting totalled. Those suckers are fast death traps. I think you've already made up your mind.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Keep the Turbo Dodge!!!!!
Ah well, if you want to get rid of it I would say give the Evo MR a look. They are said to handle much better than the STi, though I have yet to see anyone drive the 2005 model. If I had the money I would buy an MR.

forget the sti, srt4, MR. you need yourself an '04 SVT Cobra. lol j/k

Ahhh...the SVT Cobra. It would be fun but it's only 2 doors, insurance is through the roof, and gas mileage is pretty poor. If I got it could I come sleep on your couch cuz I'm pretty sure my wife would have all the locks changed before I made it back from the dealership? ;)

And the STi does? Hmm, didn't know that. Then I say go for the STi. I don't think you can find a better bang for the buck than the STi and the Evo.

Yeah dude go with the scooby all the wahy. I was looking at em to get one also. Also if you don't mind an automatic might wanna look at the 99-04 Passat V6 4motion :-D. More luxury and should have 8 airbags like my mothers Jetta wagon which is lower end. The handling might be a bit softer cause it's more elegant.

Well just suggesting some ideas. But ya between the Dodge and the Sti go with the STi

I think it's worth looking at the Volkswagen R32. It's not quite as fast as the STi, but it's got AWD, a six-speed manual, and all kinds of awesome safety/luxury features. It's only got two doors, but the backseats are more than usable, and the hatchback design gives it good cargo capacity.

I would definately say go with the MR, but if you need the airbags you need the airbags. I know the evo rs and regular evo are cheaper than a STi not sure about the MR though. I also read that the MR has a limited slip up front and in the rear, six speed, like 5 or 10 more hp, and the handling of a MR doesnt even compare to that of a STi. Plus I heard that if you get a boost controller, new exhaust system, and bigger intercooler you get 80 more horsepower which I think would be at least as good as the STi. Your choice though STi are nice too I like the scoop and the huge wing :). Oh ya everyone has WRX's nowadays .

If you get some good sport seats with nice side walls and a 4 point you wont even need air bags.
but I still would get the STI

Go STi...more HP, more torque, AWD, and all-around looked upon by anyone who knows their cars. Will get you in with the ladies, the new-age ricers, mechanics...anyone. I hear nothing bad about STi's...except seeing one wreck horribly into a median.
Awesome story about the Dutch kid...was pretty touching. I would have done the same had I a WRX.

The Evo MR has dynoed higher then the STi. Then again the newest version of the STi's are detuned, as noted in Motor Trend.

why would you go with a WRX? the price it cost to make it to perform equally to a STi would cost more then the STi itself. not to mention a transmission with very very qustionable strenght. the STi is also geared better, and have enough difference in the interior to make a WRX owner jealous. i would never ever buy a WRX if i could afford a STi. in the recent EVO vs. STi battle in Englishtown NJ, the average WRX was running high 12's. and thsoe got upgraded turbos. the average bolt on STi was running mid 12's. go figure. and the tranny will take tons more abuse then the WRX's glass tranny.

well if I wanted to just go 12's I would buy a bolt on turbo kit and run low boost on my car and be in the 12's
I personally would choose something different besides the new aged "supercar" I would choose a 300zxtt or a conquest or something if i wanted a turbo car to begin with.

The Rex is already turbo'd so a upgrade is possible, but I think more then that is needed for 12s.
Personally I would go with the MR Evo, if that cant be considered then go with an sti over a srt, but remember the Evo.
