I need help with the removal/replacement procedure for the driver and passenger side door lock actuator. I have diagnosed the solenoid to be bad but it is buried inside the door sheet metal and I am not sure about the best way to go about removing and replacing it. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I have replaced both actuator motors in my 96' WIndstar and was not a real easy chore but once I did one, the other was alot easier. I gave a bit of a run down on how to dismantle in a previous door lock problem in the forums and you may want to scroll through those particular cases.. rather then me retyping it all out.. sounds as though alot of folks are finding this problem and I have gone thru two of them in a two year period. good luck.

http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalFordWindstarFDrSpk.html. will get you into the door panel.. and then to release the motor it has a "U" shaped clip that holds it in place. Pry slightly on the one side of the actuator to relase and pull down slightly with some force to disengage. Unclip the wire connector and the hook end of the actuator thru the door latch mechanism. Full replacement in reverse fashion...Good luck

Guess what.. the passenger side door actuator went once again.. Took off the door panel in about 5 minutes flat.. went to the wrecker and got a new /used one for $10.00 and reinstalled in about 10 minutes. Ford's cost.. Labour 1.5 hours at $72.50 per hour and a $138.00 part .. grand total with taxs here in Manitoba Cda. .. $281.30!.. hmmmmm I need to get into the auto repair work.. especially Windstars!
