just curious because i have a question and the mustang forums like dead

my friend has a 91 mustang and i'm gonna install a stereo for her but what i need 2 know first is do i need an installation kit? or will it work without one? ive got the deck already wired to the harness adapter so i was thinkin i might be able to do it today quickly before work if it doesnt need an installation kit. any help would be great, also, what alls involved in getting the old one out??
thanx for the help

You're going to need a stereo removal tool if it's a factory stereo. Otherwise, the stereo sleeve should slide into the opening and you can bend your taps, then slide the head unit in. But the removal tool is necessary. It looks like a big "U". You can buy it at walmart or auto zone.

[EDIT] Okay, not sure about the removal tool... Didn't realize it was '91... But if you find you need one, they are easy to buy. They come in sets of two and I believe there are instructions on the back of the package as how to use them... Stupid Ford.. Always coming up with more tools to buy to fix things.

I think 91 needs the removal tool, I know 92 does. Like he said they only run for a few bucks. Theres also a sterio board on the forums, under Cars In General

My sister has an 89 mustang, We had to take it to the shop when she was 16, it still hasnt came back yet and she turned 27 a few months ago.

thanx i totally forgot about the removal tools! :)

and icE_x all i'm doing is installing a head unit. so i didnt know if i needed one of those kits to make the deck fit right or something but if i dont need one then its awesome :D

It should just pop right out. And if you have all your harnesses wired up, you'll just plug them in, and slip it in. Should be a quickie, not lasting more than 15 mins... *eyeshifts* Anyways...

It depends on the factory stereo if its the mach 460 it might be a splice job. Two connectors ones amp and power other is speakers, plus its a 6 speaker setup have to split for the front channels. The mounting should be fine. I think they had bezels that just pop out. Also DONT mess with the console. those are bastard inventions.

Watching it right now. :grinyes:

Disclaimer for mustang guys: I've been whooped by a Mustang before too, last time I was at the track I ligned up with one and I was excited because it looks basically stock and I knew my car would piss him off.. Right before we enter the staging lanes I see him put on his helmet. :( He ran a 12.5 and I ran a 14.9.. HAHA...

Not far from where I live there is a twin turbo v6 mustang. Sleeper from hell, it runs like a high 11

Talk about sleepers... 2003 Neon Srt-4, stage 3 nitrous kit... That's a sleeper. 5-speed, woman driven (no offense to women racers), but beats the crap out of mustangs and the likes... Super fast car.
