CRX Smoke

Hi all.

Just a quick question, my UK Spec 89 CRX D16A9 has started to smoke when i rev the engine over 2500 rpm. This is usually as soon as i start the engine. Its not billowing smoke, just a little, but enough to notice. I do have a Quad DTM Exhaust fitted. Is this just the engine warming up, or the exhaust? It usually dies down once the engine has been running for a while. Im just worried that i might have a problem with the engine that i want to be put straight, before any major damage is done. No engine management lights have come on and the ECU is not throwing any codes, and my oil levels are constant, with no visible leaks. Any ideas as to what could be wrong? I have only had the car for a couple of months.

Hope some one can help me out.

Cheers

Jordan

sounds like your piston rings are worn mate, what mileage has it done, and do u rag the car when its cold?

No, i have not really driven it much at all in the last couple of months.

Its white smoke rather than blue, and its only when the engine is revved a little. Like i said, its not billowing smoke, and to be honest, i didnt notice it till a mate pointed it out. So will the pistons rings cost me to be replaced?

Thanks for the help mate.

if its white smoke when its cold its condensation from the exhaust, if it does it when its hot its probly ur headgasket, if its blue its piston rings

Well thats a bit of a relief. The Exhaust was fitted just before i bought it, and is a big Quad jobbie. Way over the top, but sounds the bollocks. So more than likely its just condensation?

Cheers.

if it only does it when the car has been runnign for like 10 mins and it only happens when its cold really

Yeah because i have not driven the car any where over 5 mins. My cousin drove it all the way up from Torquay and im up in blackpool, so thats a good 400 miles and it was fine, no smoke, nothing. And he certainly gave it some on the way up. Thanks for your help mate, appreciate it.

I have no way of posting pics mate. Its really clean, tidy little car.

Its had the exhaust fitted, been lowered 40mm and has had a boost valve fitted. Got some fat Yokohama tires on it fitted to some 17" team dynamics alloys, nice polar white colour, window tints. Very happy with it.

thank you :)

well if somethign is "the bollocks" then its cool

if somethign is "bollocks" then its shite!

In American English that tranlates to like when something is cool it's "the shit" but when something sucks it's just plain "shit" LOL

I like reading the conversations between the Brits/Aussies... I get to think about the English I learned getting my BA and MA in college... too bad I don't get to talk like that all the time.

Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but the CRX is still smoking, its like white steam, but I really dont think it is condensation, is there any thing else that this could probably be? It does seem to stop when i just leave the car running or drive it slowly for over ten mins, but last night i took a mate out in it, and he had never been in a rex before, so i was booting the car about abit, not for long, maybe 2-3 mins, when i noticed the smoke was back. The smoke is white, no burning smell, oil levels are fine, what can it be? Car is having MOT next week, would like to know whether im going to get spanked by the mechanics!

Any help appreciated.

well it wont fail the MOT because of it, does the engine use any water , and if you take off the rocker cover cap is there "milk" on underneath of he lid because it may be your headgasket

the car would condensate for a while it depends on how hot your exhaust gets and how hard your driving it

Cheers for that mate, ill have a look tonight.

Another quick question (im full of em today) im taking the original spoiler off tonight, i have a new spoiler to replace it with, but once i have removed the original spoiler, am i going to have holes in the boot where the original spoiler was attached? Whats the best way to fill this in, any thing i can do cheaply?

Cheers again guys.

Civic Jim

you will more than likely have to drill NEW ones for the new spoiler and fill in or fibre glass the old ones mate

what spoiler you getting?

I already have it mate, it belonged to the guy i bought the car from, it looks quite good, although i have no idea what make or type it is, i have looked around on the net and not found anything similar.

So im gonna have to fill the holes and re-spray the area?

Gonna get a little costly me thinks.
