Power windows not going down...

I drive a 98 Saturn SL2. I have power windows and the two rear windows will not roll down. They used to roll down but not anymore. I don't think it's an electrical issue because I can hear a whirring noise when I press the button, like it's trying to roll the window down but it can't.

If I put my hand on the window I can pull the window down. The handles on the doors are stiff now; they weren't stuff before when the windows worked. Someone at the dealership said it SOUNDS like they could be "off the track."

Is that what it could be? Are the power windows on a track and they could have slipped off of it? And how easy would it be to fix?

Thank you for any help!

they may be off the track, or the teeth on the track may be worn down. you can take the interior panel off and see for your self. i have a different style interior with manual windows, so i can't really give you a how-to. if you want to ask over on saturnfans.com

on my 95 you cant see anything by removing the door panel, you have to take off the plastic door skin to access the window motor and track. This is not that bad to do and it opens everything up.
