Our 2001 Chevy Impala is pulsating all the way through the brake pedal when we brake. When we slow down , so does the pulsating. The right front brake is squeeling, sqeaking, but it is not the normal squeeling when your pads are worn. I took the pads off and noticed that the right front pads are worn uneven. I would like to fix it myself due to money flow problems.
Somebody help me!
Thanks

Well you could either take your car in and have the rotors ground down...but it sounds to me like the rotors are warped...i've only put 30,000 miles on my car and i'm about ready to put the second round of brakes on it because of the pulsating. My brakes squeak all the time and i have taken it in a few times and they said it was because of the metalic brake pads..so i have no idea why....if you find that one out let me know.....

you may have a right front caliper hanging up. That would explain the uneven pad wear and the squealing. If you do it yourself, make sure you use caliper slide lube on the caliper bolts to prevent the same problem from re-occurring. Also, when you put the wheels back on, torque the lug nuts to spec or you could contort the rotor and cause another pulsation.

The new model impalas are terrible on brake rotors. I have 150000 km on mine and i'm about to install my fourth set of front rotors. As for the squeal that you have, you can get rid of the problem by installing ceramic pads. They are available from monroe and are by far the best pas i've ever used. The braking is excellent as well. Good Luck with the rotors though. I'm going to try a set of the heavy duty front brake set ups that are available out there right now.
