i think it looks pretty good, but the wheels kind of kill it. the body looks cool though. to change the wheels just look at a pic of some wheels u like and copy-draw :)

Looks like a Corvette back, McLaren F1 middle and Lotus Elise front! Not bad, but I think the wheels need changing especially at the front. Also it looks tiny. You should start again on a bigger scale imo.

yes it was onli a rough sketch to get a general idea :P i am gonna re-draw it soon any suggestions to change the front??

Make it rounder, slightly bigger, and maybe some part of a headlight.

Looks a bit like a Vector. It's got that aerodynamic, pointed shape.

Wheel spokes look a little sloppy, and the rear wheel is ALOT bigger than the front.

Ummm, did you read my post? I actually don't think its that bad. You should now draw it again bigger, and with more accuracy and detail. Also, you should decide how the car looks, not us.

Looks like a Corvette back, McLaren F1 middle and Lotus Elise front!

WTF!!! LOTUS ELISE FRONT?!!?!?!? What are you on dude??? There is no Elise WHATSOEVER in the front of that :smokin: :smokin:

Really though, I don't htink you're thinking of the right car...

Sorry bout that dude. I have a lil' suggestion that has to do with how you hold your pencil. Right now it seems your drawing very tight. You don't want that (for now). You want to have a lose arm, lose wrist and lose hand, You want the car to flow through nice and even. Now you have little lines. Just loosen up!!! Ask some other people on these boards. I can't emphasize this enough. Loosen up!!! Right now, not only is that effecting your line quality, but it is also effecting your design. Like mentioned, it looks like a Vector. That car is terribly outdated. Your design needs something fresh, something modern and new. You've got most of the basics there, just keep loose.

At this stage of drawing skill, the ONLY way to get better is to draw a LOT! Just keep drawing cars, anything at all. Idealistic designs are the best because you keep your options open well past the point you;ve started. Your not restricted in any way (yet). Keep drawing.

Oh yeah, did I mention, keep loose!!!

First of all, you're still too tight. I really mean it dude, get huuuuge flowing lines. It looks as if these drawings are taking you a long time to draw. Design is about gettingyour ideas down on paper. That is why we sketch. If you want to get the most ideas down, then you have to loosen up and draw quicker, round lines. Right now, it is still boxy and outdated.

I might be all wrong because you might be going for a different design idea... I'm not sure.

I know what you mean, but the drawing type your going for is very technical and is in a deeper point of the design stage. You can have a very edgy car drawn with beautiful long lines. I suggest you look through some professional design work to really get a feel of the field. There's not that many other places to look on the internet other than www.cardesignnews.com From there, check Directory>Designers for a list of a lot of pros. Or check the Portfolios section. You get a pie if you find mine. Trust me man, the designs for the mentioned vehicles were not drawn initially with a ruler. They were loose freehand skethces. Just check the design stuff for a sense of the 'biz.

hey AnsisK thatnk for the site its awesome i printed out the tutorial and im gonna get down to business soon glad i took art this year in highskool im in grade 10:P lol one question do u know any good books for car designing??

AnsisK
08-24-2004, 11:01 AM
YES!!! I forgot. Another thing that I preach on AF other than looseness is HOW TO DESIGN CARS LIKE A PRO by Tony Lewin. This book is top notch.
Warning: Before you buy it, let me tell you, it's not an instructional book, as in it is not full of tutorials. It is how to design, not how to draw. This book is excellent though, great quality, many many pages, all colour. I have read through every page maybe 10 times now. It is amazing for inspiration as well, there is a TON of professional car designs in there that really give you an impression of how it's done. I strongly suggest getting this book, it can't be more than 30$.

It's okay that you're in Grade 10. It IS a bit late to be seriously thiking about car design (not toooo late). If you are seriously considering this whole thing as a career, you're gonna have to get moving. Hell, I'm only in grade 11 now, so it's all okay! (Not trying to discourage you though, keep at it!)

Good luck!

Okay. Are you considering a career in automotive design?

If you're in grade 10, you would be seeking acceptance at a college for a Transportational Design course in 3 years. There is a lot to be done to get to that point. Trans Design courses have relitively low entrance qualifications. Your number one ticket to get into it is your Portfolio. A weak folio won't get you into a course. I'm just saying, you've got a long way to go to getting into a program. I'm not the best source on this exact stuff (check the forums on CDN). This last little bit is my personal opinion. You really have to be VERY dedicated to it, ask anyone who's at that stage and thye'll tell you how much time you have to devote to drawing and design, its absurd. I've met a guy who draws 3 hours a day, building his folio for when he's ready to send it in...

What you seriously need to do is start sketching. Get that loose hand I've been talking about. You really will have to learn to get this feel, you will always use it, 'til you die. Sketching is extremely important, no matter what your designing. It gets your (as a designer) ideas down quickly and efficiently. More ideas down, the better the design will be. It's all about design in the long run. To display this design, you HAVE to develop a good sketch and drawing. That's what AF and CDN is for. Getting hte help you need to develop these skills. Computers will never replace them.

Again, I've only seen 2 drawings from you. You've got a looooot to improve, so draw constantly. For now, you should really focus on side view, getting used to pen and paper. Technique is very important at this stage. You don't want a shaky sketching technique. Next will be perspective, the hardest part of learning to draw a simple car. You'll see...

Good luck!

like the front and back view i did but cleaner lines

AnsisK

Yes, the front and back are headed in the right direction. You should be drawing looser again. The front looks really uptight. also, draw a lot larger. You want a good pesence on a piece of paper. That way, you can lay down a ton of ink and still not see the mistakes. In sketching, mistakes more or less add to the main feel of the drawing. It's great stuff.

Good luck!
