Ok,,,, I've got my handy dany 79' Monte Carlo w/ the 350. And one thing that really gets on my nerves is those damn idiot lights (temp.,, Oil pressure, battery). I was wondering if I took them out and put gauges in ther places, if it would work. If not how do i put the new sencers in there.
Peace
Peace

Most of the cars with those, won't set them off till you've gone way beyond "danger" because they don't want them going off in normal conditions and people bringing them back to the dealerships all the time. The oil pressure light in my car, for example, won't go off till you get down to 2 psi.

Temp, you can probably keep the idiot light by attaching the sender wire from the guage to the sender on the sensor.(electric only)
Oil pressure, it depends on if you want to keep the idiot light or not. If not, then just unscrew the factory sensor and screw in the new one. You may need an adaptor for this, but it should just be a 1/8npt.(for electric guage only)
Voltage, there should be an igniton fuse on the fuse panel in your car that you attach the sender wire to. Very simple.
You should just get electric guages because they are easier to mount and your car probably has electric sensors. All these are pretty straight forward.

most "idiot lights" are just on and off, guages are proportional. unless you have the correct hardware on the engine side, you'll just have a guage that goes from nothing to all the way on.

Those dummy lights are pure off on situation so you need new sending units for the guages. Just go call up Autometer and they can tell you everything you need and give you part numbers.
