Air Flow Sensor - Ford Windstar 98

I changed the air filter on my 98 Windstar. Upon the first engine start the engine ran rough. Let it run for 3 minutes and turned engine off. Upon restart the Service Engine Light came on but the engine runs OK.
The dealer ran a diagnostic and says the airflow sensor needs to be changed. The total cost about $400 includes diagnostic test of $89.
Before changing the air filter, I noticed the airfilter cover did not seat properly and air was allowed to pass around the filter. I seated the cover correctly. Did that create the problem?
What is involved in changing the Air Flow Sensor? Is there any calibration required if I change it myself? How much does the sensor cost?

$89.00 bucks for diagnostic test! I am glad I know someone with a hand held to read my codes. I would check the small wires in the MAF sensor before replacing. If the wires are not broke try cleaning them with a good spray cleaner for electronics. Do not touch the wires they are sensitive just spray them clean. Try that and see if it runs any better. If so the light should go out by itself with a few days of normal driving.
If you do need to change it, it is very simple. Tools needed, should be just a screw driver. Call the dealership and just ask the service department for the cost of the sensor. Just by looking at the part everything should be self explanitory on how it fits in the air intake line.
