Pulsating Brakes

My Girlfriend drives a 1994 Mercury Sable that the rear disc brakes went out on her about a month ago. I replaced the pads which were down to nothing and the calipers were replaced and resurfaced the rotors. The problem now is when she goes to a stop, some times the abs will feel like it is kicking in and can make stops really dangerous. I noticed it really doesn't matter what speed the car is traveling at. It also doesn't matter how hard you push on the brake either.

The only things I can come up with is that I possible didn't bleed the brakes correctly or long enough or some sort of abs sensor is bad. Please help.

Are you sure its not a warped rotor brake pulsation in the pedal? If you pull the abs fuse it will disable the abs but not your braking system. I have never seen a instance where bleeding the brakes causes abs problems. one thing though is if one of the calipers is making a wheel lock up it will think it is locked up and turn on the abs. I think these cars only have rear wheel abs so its not that great of a system if u ask me buy i might be wrong.

I just pulled the abs fuse about a week ago and have not had a problem since. If it was my car I would just leave the fuse out, but I am not the owner. I will jack the car up this weekend and see if the calipers are grabbing in the front or the rear. They should not be grabbing in the rear since I just replaced them, but who knows. It is nice that I am starting to narrow down the problem. Thanks for the help.

One thing i have noticed on fords is some of the pads from different manufacturers will put to much paint on the ears of the pads which makes the pads not whant to slide frealy and smoothly and rust builds up on the slides also. But this would have to be pretty severe to lock up a caliper. I have seen new calipers not work and you could have a line crimped but will see when you put the tires in the air. Good luck.

Just to let you know after the fuse was pulled the car drove great untill the other day. I started to hear grinding in the right rear side again. Checked the wheel and there was alot of brake dust on it. Drove the car back home and jacked it up. The pads were down to nothing again. Applied the brakes and the tire kept on spinning. So I looked at the brake line and it was caved in. Replaced the brake line,caliper,pads, and rotor and now the car runs flawless and the ABS sensor is plugged back in and has not acted up yet. So for now the problem is solved.
