well..... just picked up my new motor tonight! DOHC ZC for.... $100!!!!! :D hehehe
no throttle body, no dizzy, no exhaust manifold, and no cam angle sensor but i'm not that worried, already have an exhaust manifold, and theres a DOHC ZC at the wreckers i goto anyway :D
motors sat for 7 months but its not siezed :D
i dont have a digital camera for another couple weeks as we are waiting on our new one to come in from e-bay, once it gets here i will take pics tho :)

nice pickup :D
91civicguy - the DOHC ZC has 5 more hp than the d16z6 and 3 more hp than the d16y8. But i consider them pretty even from what i have seen :)

apparently the motor only had 40 000 K on it when it was brought over, also, its pretty much apart now, took the intake off the head, stripping the valve cover down now to paint it blue like my old one, waiting for my brother to tell me i can use his engine stand, oil pan is brand new :) gonna strip that and paint it, motor looks fairly clean all over tho, gonna drop the oil pan asap and see what suprises are in there lol, the runners for the intake were black as night, and also the ones going into the heads were too, how can i check if theres a bent valve? and would it be safe to clean up and paint the stock cam gears? this is gonna be one fun project i tell ya! :) i hope to have it done in a month or 2 for sure

my SI intake was all black and grimy when I got it, soaked it in carb cleaner and it all came off. Take the head off and look for a bent valve :) you could allways do a compression test for a bent valve also. You can paint the insides of the cam geat, dont paint the part the belt touches though. Build ups are allways great, take your time. I'm currently building a race spec 258 (4.2Liter) inline 6.

yea i dont think i got ripped off, guy paid 250 for the motor and i got it for 100 cuz hes moving out to british columbia on the 24th so i see it as a win for me, saved 400 for it, by the end i might have a zc for under 500 :)
also, you wouldnt happen to have any spare ZC parts laying around, like saw the sensor for the cam and a dizzy? :)

yeah, mine will be painted soon also. Accually painted part of it yesterday with some paint from another project but it wasnt the right silver I was looking for. Gotta finish a little body work on passenger quarter pannel, build my back bumper and side skirts, finish shaving my body line/door handles, then I'll be ready to spray.

I might be able to dig up a cam angle sensor. But as for the dizzy, I do have an extra one but im holding on to it because they are real hard to come by and usually cost $150 and up. Try the local salvage yards, they wont know that that particular dizzy is so sought after and should let it go for a good price. But if you look on ebay or something, be ready to shell out almost $200. Actually, i just took a look on ebay and theres one on there for $131.95 buy it now. Not trying to hold out on you or anything, but ive been through a couple dizzy's and love knowing i have a spare.

and thats the cam angle sensor on the exhaust cam correct? and about the dizzy, i think the guy at the junk yard quoted me 50 bucks, so i'll prolly get that one

i need a stock intake cam because one lobe has a huge scratch in it, or 2 performance cams, cam gears (not a neccesity) timing belt, throttle body, dizzy, sensor that goes on exhaust cam beside dizzy, and the wiring harness for the injectors, i think thats all for now, oh and maybe some gasket sets if u can get them for cheap :)
Civic Jim
08-10-2004, 08:43 AM
hmmm gaskets are hard even here! we usually go to honda, i will keep and eye out for one in the junk yard , would rover 216 GTI bits do they ahve the same lump basically

alright, well gaskets i can get from work, but if rover parts are a hell of a lot cheaper but are the exact same thing and are garanteed to work without modification then sure

well i got more stuff cleaned up and painted now, (cam gears, valve cover, oil pan, and intake manifold) i test fitted everything together today without gaskets (didnt tighten anything) and it looks badass, i love the look of this motor so far :)
one problem tho, when i had the motor upside down when i was takin the oil pan off, when i rotated it back upright i noticed there was oil in the one cylinder now. does this mean my rings are shot on that piston? or is it just because i had the motor upside down for a long period of time??? i dunno what to do tho i might call a shop and see what they'd charge to hone the cylinders and put new rings in
i wish i had a digital camera tho to show u guys what this looks like right now, blue valve cover with brand new yellow accel 8mm wires hehe

dont pay a shop to do it, just do it yourself. You can buy a hone for about $20, remember to do a cross-hatch patern. While you have it appart Id replace all the rings and bearings.

you buy a hone and hone it... I think your thinking of boring. Honing resurfaces the cylinder so that the rings set properly and takes care of any minor inperfections. Boring accually removes material and increased the size of the cylinder thus needing oversized pistons/rings ect.
1PhatCX
08-12-2004, 03:01 PM
yea i know that honing and boring are different things, i just dunno how ur supposed to hone, isnt it like a brush with little balls on it or something?
and just an update, i picked up a exhaust cam sensor today and the top part of the timing belt cover aswell.
and i'm picking up a dizzy next friday for 50 bux :)
now i need the injector part of the harness, i need the thing that goes on the passenger side of the fuel rail (right side) that threads on, throttle body, timing belt, and the rest of the timing cover. so if anyone has any of this for sale for cheap let me know please, i also need a stock intake cam, and any gaskets that will work for this motor,

i'm gonna keep em stock for now, probably gonna keep my b2 as a spare incase i get a shitload of money to blow on the motor, then i'll yank it out and toss the new parts in, but right now i have no money and want more speed so its stayin stock for now, but its being rebuilt 100% :)
