Apparently you guys aren't up on water cooled superchargers that don't take up any room on top of your engine. But thats right... you guys aren't mechanics.

I feel a little bad about what i said, so let me re-itterate myself. I too was thinking about putting twin turbos on my 1987 Corvette with a L98 350. After researching and comparing, I found that a water cooled supercharger would produce far more hp and last longer then non-water cooled superchargers and turbos. With this set up i would not need any more hood clearence from stock. I don't know if you have seen a corvette engine up close and personal, but there isn't a heck of alot of room in there. After calling up the company and finding out what kind of hp i would be getting with this set up, i found that it would bump my horsepower up 180+hp. The kits are apparently easy to install ( they look like they are too ) and they last longer, but the down side is, they cost 3K - 4K. However, they only use 1/2 of a hp if you are idling, or intown driving. I look at it like this... 1987 was the first year Callaway took a Vette and put twin turbos on it. After they beefed of the engine some and installled those 2 turbos, it produced 450hp. With my 1987 L98 that was stock and with catback exhaust and that water cooled supercharger would produce a total of 485hp. And thats without the tweaks Callaway did to their version of the L98 twin turbo. Unfortunately, i sold my corvette and bought a 1969 Firebird, so i can only qoute what comany said would be the lowest amount of horsepower i would gain on my corvette, which was 180+. I'm only trying to help you out, and see a different maybe better side or choice.

Water-cooled S/C.... are you just talking about a S/C kit that cools the air charge down with an air-to-water cooler? Cause the same thing can be done to a turbo/TT set-up.
Also there are water-cooled turbos also which the turbo itself is cooled by water not the air charge is cooled which also can be done with an air-towater set-up or the traditional air-to-air..

Its fine that your trying to help. But quit being a fuckin smartass about it. Your right some people arent mechanics, but that is why their are on here......to get help. Not get harrased because they arent a mechanic. I just cant stand when people come on here and think they know all and they brag about being a mechanic and all this other shit. Im a mechanic too. Do you see me bringin people down because their not? no. So get over yourself and help people out if u kno the answer to someones quesition instead of being a smartass.

I don't believe i have brought down anyone in here, unless you are lying about your cars performance. Nothing ticks me off more then when someone in bluffing about their hp, 0-60, and 1/4 mile times. I usually call their bluff. Thats just the way i am.

The ones I reccomend is in red. I also reccomend a single. Twins nessicarly do not spool faster. With twins, one bank spins one turbo. With a single, two banks spin one turbo. The trick to spool up is proper fuel tuning, having an automatic sized with the correct stall converter. Make sure your cam is a turbo speific cam. Also turbo engines do not spin alot of rpm. They are usually limited because of cam specs. So don't expect to turn anything over 6k. Oh and intercool it and ALCOHOL INJECTION!!!!!

extremely hard to do all that work without taking out the motor. And as to the person wanting to put a turbo on a 383.... why? Turbo on V8's are not the answer... superchargers are. Turbo's a very very unreliable, you need heat shields everywhere, because of the exhaust running around, they are laggy, you have to prime the oil filter everytime you change the oil or your turbos get ruined, and turbos don't last long in general. So, i ask you again... why turbos?
Dude have you been living under a rock? Turbochargers have dominated everywhere they are allowed to be used. Infact, out of all the thing that have been banned in racing due to an unfair advantage, turbochargers have been number one on that list over many fields of racing. yea, you have to prime your oil filter with a turbo but, you also should do that with every engine. Also, talking about calling crap out, im gonna call you out on your calloway corvette post. BS!!!!!!!!!!! you are not going to make 485 HP from a forced inducted stock L98 from a bolt on supercharger. That would be over 25 PSI from a supercharger on a high compresson engine ( for Forced induction) on pump gas..... DON'T think so.... So when you decide to come on here and down something like this, don't come on here and start assuming that you are the all knowing newbie because you are a mechanic. Im not usually an ass like this but for people who just show up and call people stupid because you are the mechanic (which is what you basically did) is wrong and I can't stand it! You may be a mechanic (also known as a parts changer in the modern shop) but you are no technician.

Well I just hit 230,000 kms with my ct-26 turbo with a T-04E 57-trim comp wheel?? The cars been raced since new and never got any special treatment.. If that isnt reliable, I dont know what is..
And if you are the "mechanic" you would know that you should ALWAYS prime your oil filter on any vehicle be it n/a or forced indiction when doing oil changes..
I found that a water cooled supercharger would produce far more hp and last longer then non-water cooled superchargers and turbos.
Most turbochargers are water cooled.. They produce FAR to much heat not to be cooled..
A supercharger can also rob up to 60hp just to make power, compared to a turbocharger that will use maybe 5hp in backpressure and increased temp.

SphinXX and everyone else I guess, you should all have a read of these forums:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1199
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=693
and take note of this article in particular:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=417
If you can read and understand all of that then you can come in here and make statements about forced induction, but prepared to back up your opinions if they differ from any of the accepted norms.
However not even 14 years of being a mechanic is going to naturaly instill you with that level of knowledge.

what's all this "prime the oil" filter mumbo jumbo?
When you change the oil filter you leave a "hole" in the oil system.
When you start the car up this "hole" has to be filled.
Basicly the empty filter has to be filled with oil before oil can be pumped around the engine and enough pressure built for the engine to run safely.
On modern engine designs its not something you normaly need to worry about.
In most cases the filter is close enough to the pump, and the pump strong enough that it can fill the empty filter and build pressure before the engine has run long enough for any damage to be done.
Next time you change your filter watch the oil warning light. It will stay on a few seconds longer than normal when you start the car. Its quite normal, and as long as it dosnt stay on means everything is ok. Just make sure you don't rev the engine untill it goes out.
Also note, on most modern engines the filter is often placed on its side on the side of the engine, or upside down on the top of the engine, which of course makes priming it very difficult.
If you are a fanatic about running your engine even for a few seconds with low oil pressure then you can disconect the ignition and simply crank the engine over for a few seconds. This will fill the filter with oil.
Although the wear saved would be so minimal I doubt you could ever measure it.
However!
Many older engines (im talking from before the 60s) and heavily modified engines, and engines with remote oil filters and dry sump systems need to have the filter and often the rest of the oil system primed first.
This means pressure is built in the system before the engine is run.
There are a variety of ways of doing it.
On older engines and engines that run quite low oil pressure and where the filter hangs down off the bottom of the engine, or off the side of the pump all you have to do is fill it with freash oil before installing it. Then when you start the engine the pump does not have to fill the filter first, and oil pressure is built quite quickly, the same as if the filter had never been changed.
This is the most basic way of priming the filter.
On engines with remote filters, dry sumps etc then the very least that should be done is fill the filter first.
The extra piping in the system means the pump takes longer to fill the filter, which can lead to the engine running for a long period of time with low, or even no oil pressure.
On many full race engines often the ignition is left off, and the engine is cranked over to build pressure before the engine is actualy started.
And some even use electic pumps to prime the system before the engine even gets turned over.
As for having to prime the filter to save turbos getting ruined?
Thats a new one on me. Turbo's are very heavily reliant on having a good healthy oil supply, they run extremly hot, hotter than anyother part in your engine. But it takes far longer for them to reach these tempratures than even a low pressure oil pump feeding a remote filter would take to fill a filter and build pressure.
If you are having problems with low oil pressure at your turbos then it has nothing to do with priming your filter. It indicates a flaw somewhere else in the system.

Oh and by the way tell your daddy that i like his camaro and your S10 blows. It really amazes me how little common sense you guys really have. You will believe anyone that has a web site or for that matter you will believe anyone that has a mouth. Tell ya what, i'll make a web site and have my 10 year old niece start punching in random specs and stats on cars and you idiots would believe every word of it. Like i said no common sense. Good luck, you idiots will need plenty of it.

Thank you. Now, when you get your watercooled supercharger on, go find a Turbo Buick that has a comparable ammount of money invested in it and you will see what I am talking about.

Hypsi87.
Haha this is the best post ever!!!!!!
I like S/C and have no problems using them but like Hypis said Turbo's own S/C even in the 1/4 mile. If turbo's are not all out banned from certain classes then they put tons of different restrictions on turbo cars like they have to be heavier, use smaller cubic inch motors, smaller inlet tracts any one or combination of these compared to thier S/C counterparts. And the turbo cars still win even under all these restrictions.
You may be a mechanic (also known as a parts changer in the modern shop) but you are no technician.
This has to be my favorite part of the whole post. Just cause your a mechanic doesn't mean you know shit about doing performance mods. I have worked wit so many kids that we hired at my old job where they had all this training and Ford certification but when it came to something as stupid as putting a set of LT headers on a Mustang they would take forever and looked confused as hell. And don't even dare ask them to try to install a S/C. Bottom line is there are mechanice(parts changers) and then performance mechanics(modifiers).
