I have had my Cruiser for 18months with no problems from anyone, it has the factory fitted window tinitng from new (2000).
This morning however I was pulled over by the police for having tinted windows, they measured the light penetration through the drivers front window with some little tool and declared them illegal.
I now have to take the car somewhere to get the tinitng film removed and then inspected by an MOT station.
To say I am upset about this is a bit of an understatement.
I thought evryone should be warned about this potential problem, apparently the law was clarified in Feb 2004 and now states that at least 70% of light must penetrate windows, when mine was measured it was 31.6%, and because this is a clarification of a law and not a new one it applies to all vehicles irrespective of registration date etc.
I would like to think there is something that can be done about this but probably not, if anyone has any ideas or comments it would be great to hear.

Maybe contact your dealer to see if they might be of assistance. I'm sure that you will not be the only one asking the question since it's the law, which applies to ALL vehicles regardless of registration date.

I had that happen recently with my Highlander. One sheriff I know in my area used a light meter to test the tinting and it was too dark, so the dealership removed it and redid it less dark for no charge
seems many dealers go by California standards
