so i was replacing the spark plugs and wires and, after doing so, discovered that my temperature gauge is no longer workling (when it rains, it freaking POURS). We looked and looked and can't find any hanging wires, I'm not sure if we knocked something loose. I looked in my Haynes manual and it does not tell me the location of anything relating to the temp gauge. is it possible that I knocked a wire loose, or do you think I need a new gauge (among other things)

I doubt anything is wrong with the guage.. Its probably the temp. sender.. The clip that holds the wire on is weak.. Its a possibility that you knocked it off..

and where exactly is that located, because I can't find it in the manual. I'm probably looking in the wrong place or for the wrong thing - still new to this and all. :)

I'm not positive but I would check on the side of the head, or side of the block, (probaly going to be hard to see). If not there, right on the thermostat housing (i have no idea what engine we're talking about) I hope that works out for you. Good luck.

My haynes manual says its located on the left cylinder head near the front. I was just checking out my car and I cant see it admidst all the junk in the engine bay.

its either in the passenger head, or in the block on the passenger side, if i remember correctly...

well like someone said above i dont know what engine we are talking about, but if they havnt changed much, (im way more familure with my old stuff), providing its a small block V8, otherwise i dont really have any clue, look between the #1 and #3 spark plugs, also known as the first and second ones on the drivers side. it should be right between those two and about a half inch higher than the spark plugs. if you have exhaust manifolds, it will be right below that manifold so you probably wont be able to see it, but if you stick your hand down there and feel your way from the one spark plug to the other you should feel it sticking out of the head about an inch or so. if you drew an imaginary line from the #1 exhaust port to the #3 spark plug and then another line from the #1 spark plug to the #3 exhaust port, (witch would make an "X"), it should be right where the two lines cross. in other words, "X" marks the spot.

P.S. seeing as how you said it doesnt work since you change the plugs, it kinda makes sence that you would have accidentaly nocked it off because it was right next to where you were working.

thank you, 68. I thought that might be where it was. I tried to feel for it, but I didn't feel anything. I'll try again.

What kind of engine do you have??? I think I just found mine. I have a TPI engine though. Its basically right under the throttle body. Its a little green sensor. I can take a pic if it might help.

ok, there are three temp sensors, on is on the thermostat, one is on the passenger side of the block but thats actually a cooling fan temp switch, the one i think causing your problem, is located in the driver side head, between the number 1 and 3 spark plugs. you should be able to track a wire to that location, and there is a sensor screwed in there that it goes to. it just slides on and clips there, so its very easy to knock off, so you probly did it chanign the plug wires.

Alright this is the one near the thermostat housing. Its the green thing near the middle of the picture under the throttle body ducting.

that's what I thought, because I saw a wire hanging, but the a/c unit is disconnected in the car and so is the alarm system so there are wires kinda hanging out everywhere. Again with the attention whore car!

Dober, that sensor your seeing below your throttle body is a temp sensor, but it's for the ecm, not the guage in the dash.

lol, yeah there used to be alot of daries around here, but now they are bilding houses on the land. way way to many houses. its freeking nuts.

side note: anyone that lives out of state(the state being california), please do not ever think of moving to cali. there are already way to many people and there are two many laws to make it worth wile. besides, we dont like outsiders. lol just playin. but still, dont move here.

grease monkey girl
07-19-2004, 01:52 AM
and it's really expensive to live out here, so just don't come! lol

It's the same way in Arizona, they are taking out about 7 huge fields where they grow canteloup and broccoli and alfalfa and stuff and building a mall. WTF???
