hehe, yeah, but once in a while, I try to think of them as cars for comparisions. heard that cbr 1rr took the last spot for 1/4 mile, 10 sec. btw, pull wheelies often? your bike has to be THE notorious bike for wheelies.

not really. i never really try. always worried that something will go wrong.
it will come up slightly (about a foot) under power with me leaning forward but to really get it up i need to get it up to 5000rpm then flick the thottle hard. i prefer to do other stunts. ever stood on the seat and surfed the bike or jumped of the back and ski'ed behind. i know i'm a squid. i just tried to throw my legs over the windscreen and sit on the tank. worked the first time but second time i almost went down. :22yikes:

blayne you for real? that may be squid-like, but it seems cool, fuck, if i was ever going to try that, i'd be practicing while its on a stand, in a garage so no one can see! lol, how the hell did you just one day "jump off the back and ski behind?" crazy fucker? :P

I sat on a 2003 cbr1000rr today and it was nice, but the handle bars were a bit of a reach. Other than that it was just plain badass.

I'd more interested in doing endos first than wheelies, at least when you fall off, you won't have your noggin cracked open. It also teaches about how close you can push the front brake before locking it up.

i checked ou a vid from the states call 'las vegas extremes' and went out to try it on my way to work coming onto the harbour bridge. you need a bike with a choke or rewire a thottle to the rear. a steering damper is also required. haven't done the skiing on the blade coz it doesnt have either :icon16:
flex are you sure it was a 2003 cbr1000. i thought they were 2004 models since mine is a oct 2003 954

I think he was misinformed, there's no '03 CBR1000 for any part of the world. Only '03 CBR600RR.

it may have been plated dec2003 but should be a 2004 model

yeah, released end of the year as '04 model.
btw, those 180 endos are bad-ass. I saw Tom Cruise (or his stuntman) do one in Mission Impossible 2, which I believe was shot in Australia. :D

mission improbable was shot here and the bikes were triumphs speed triples. when they went offroad they stuck the fairings on trail bikes. it was filmed out near my in-laws place

Yeah I knew they were Triumphs, since Ducatis look a bit better, hehe. I am guessing the red one was TT600.
Btw - by the way. Not a nerd lingo mate, it comes with the territory of typing in the net. Croickey! :D

Well it was a CBR 1000 and the guy just recently bought it. He said it was a 03 though. It ran him 12K. yikes

he either bought a '04 bike that came out in '03 or probably doesn't know much about the bike then. '03 was only 954.
$12K? is he in Canada or Australia? If not, he just got RIPPED-OFF big time. Unless we're talking about a bike with massive chrome-work and heavy performance mods here.

blayne - why you need a steering damper? (more to the point, what is one) and would you really need a throttle? couldnt you stick it in neutral and jump off and ski?...
And Z, yeah i just saw one of those 180 endo's on a bike vid, fucken awesome, first time he dropped his bike though :)

Anyone ever notice that this thread is off topic for 4 1/2 pages?

auto newb- yep but who cares
other newbie- if you search the forum there is a thread about steering dampers, but basically you want the bike to go i a staight line even if it hits bumps and a damper will stop any bumps from turning the bike. as for the thottle- you need the bike to maintain speed so you can control it and when you get back on it has to be going fast enough not to stack
and finally Z-man, a 2004 cbr will cost around 19000aus

yeah, but the guy got it used, so who knows. I am guessing he is in US, but got burned! A new '04 CBR1RR is less than $9K at a good dealer, since MSRP is $9990.

newbie- it's like a small adjustable shock absorber that stops sudden movement. its adjustable in speed sensitivity

hehe well thanks for trying, i know what a damper is, but im just trying to think the logic in how to switch from stunt riding to normal with it :) ill sit and wait for r1 rider :)
aussieidiot
07-30-2004, 01:39 AM
although its adjustable, once its set you leave it there. you dont switch back and forth. its not just for stunts its just that the manufacturers are a bit slow to put them on factory but now they are. the new cbr1000 has an electronic job that varies according to speed

umm, was that to me. i was asking if he meant that a bike can only go as fast as your right wrist makes it or wether he meant 'de-tuning' a bike

nice bike/s. anyone out there ever driven a 999s? just wondering what its like? and i have a question about my bike, i have a 99 cbr 600f4 and around 2500-3000rpm it seems to make a clicking/ticking sound (almost like a lifter or a chain) just wondering if anyone may know what it is? it does it while moving and while stopped and the sound seems to come up from the engine. :eek7:

Nevermind...I found out that it is a CCT (cam chain tensioner) I guess it goes bad fast in the late 90's CBR's. It seems to be an easy fix, the factory/automatic ones suck...its about $100 for manual tensioner and install. (Just so you all know if you are looking at a CBR)(And the earlier 90's CBR's the voltage regualator goes bad too, which is also a fairly easy fix and there are new ones out that will fix it for good).
