Arizona school sucks. They're harsh on supsensions. My bro got 10 days suspension twice! One ...6 guys tryin to jump him and he was defending himself. Ok my bro doesnt have friends yet since we just came from chicago. So they suspended him 10 days for "fighting." 3 weeks later....he found one of those wallet chains on the stairs and so the security pulled him from class. They called the police and they searched his locker. They found his lighter with NO FLUID and he got supsended another 10 days. I dont like that school he goes to and my dad was screaming at the principal. They're so stupid. How can you kick ppl out of school for soemthing like this? Even if they're "bad" students...kicking them out doesn't solve anything. It makes there lives worse. Help them instead of giving them the boot. If anything atleast he should get 1-2 days IN SCHOOL suspension. I swear this is one of the reasons why i want to get into politics.

Profanity lands teenager in court
The teenager facing the possibility of up to a month in jail for using profanity at Ashley High School has his first court date today, although little will happen at the occasion, his lawyer said.
Wilmington attorney Thom Goolsby said he would inform the court that he is representing Glenn Gattis and a date for trial would be set. Mr. Goolsby anticipated the trial date could be in November or December.
The 17-year-old senior faces up to a month in jail if found guilty of public disturbance for allegedly using three profanities at school during an August incident that began when he was late for his fourth-period oceanography class. Glenn acknowledges using one of the words in the citation, denies another and said that the third term, an insult of his teacher, was overheard by another teacher as he spoke to friends outside class.
“I didn’t say it to her face,” he said two weeks ago.
A New Hanover County deputy who works in the school cited him for using language that is intended or plainly likely to provoke violent retaliation and thereby cause a breach of the peace. The school also suspended him and banned him from a field trip.
News accounts of the case have circulated worldwide, with some readers responding that the punishment fit the crime and others wondering what crime there was to punish.
Mr. Goolsby said he would never argue that the words Glenn is accused of using are appropriate for school. But, he said, neither do they reach the incendiary level of racial, ethnic or personal slurs that might result in violence. The charge is more appropriate for someone hurling epithets at a crowd, he said.
“Raising it to the level of charging the kid with a crime on top of a suspension and all the other things just is overboard,” he said.
Ashley Principal Sherry Broome said last week that she was legally prohibited from commenting on the student disciplinary cases.
Furthermore the actions of law enforcement officers are not something she has sway over, she said. Like all middle and high schools in New Hanover County, school resource officers are provided to Ashley through the sheriff’s office.
“They act independently,” she said. “The most a principal can do by law is to suspend for 10 days.”
Mr. Goolsby commented on the case as a neutral observer for a Star-News article that appeared Oct. 10. The Gattis family hired him subsequent to that story’s appearance.
John Sherrill, the interim district attorney, said Tuesday that he couldn’t comment on a pending case.

BTW: On the topic of being booted out of school - from a teacher's perspective, if a student who has a rep is booted for a few days - we applaud. It makes our lives a hell of a lot easier. We get paid to teach, not to put up with bullshit :D

High School sucks. I got good grades and it still sucked. I graduated from college (BA and MA)... took forever to finish. People tell me I should teach... I don't think I'll ever teach for this simple reason... I don't want homework (ie. grading papers) especially if it isn't going to teach me anything. I could be teaching college right about now because supposedly those students are there "because they want to be" but that's not necessarily true either. It would most likely beat being at this job right now with all the uneducated dumbass fuckers here. Oh, BTW, I work at the library at the same university I graduated from. Half the employees just have a high school education and don't do a damn thing so work piles up so they can say they have "job security." At least I can browse this forum though... Anyway, if anybody wants to learn anything regarding English literature or writing, just pm me and I'll tell you where to send check or money order... LMFAO!
