Ah, smog... Man's salution to fresh air and nature.
Here in Dallas/Ft. Worth area, Texas, smoking has been outlawed in restaurants and public places... but who cares about second hand smoke, when you step outside and get second hand exhaust. Every day of the summer is an Ozone Alert Day (when levels of smog and ozone reach dangerous levels)... I believe Dallas/Ft. Worth area, San Antonio, and Elpaso are all NOT meeting the clean air standards that they're supposed to... in 2006 the maximum speed limit for any road in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area is being reduced to 55mph (used to be 70 a few years ago, and is now 60) and vehicle emissions testing is getting more strict (closer to california type standards).. in an attempt to help reduce emissions and smog. Also I believe Dallas is going to be doing away with gasoline powered lawn mowers and trimmers.
Ah, I can't wait until hydrogen power, or micro cold fusion reactors, or some other alternative fuel makes a real thrust to take over powering everything.
