well if you want to spend alot on insurance get the vr-4. but if you want a good car for less money go with the 240 and drop an sr20det in it. I would go for the 240... but thats just me.;)

This is a 240SX forums, so I'm pretty sure it'll be all 240.
What's with all these people asking about cars, "I have 30 grand to spend, tell me where to spend it!!" "I dunno what to buy, a VR-4 or 240, I have all this money I can spend!" "I'm afraid that my 200 thousand $ that I'm stuffing my matress with is going to waste in my brand new 760!"...lol I wish I had money...

Ok Here Let Me Put It Into Perspective For You:
240sx (2400 - 3200lbs)
3000gt Vr-4 (3400-4200lbs)
240sx = Tons Of Bolt-in Motor Swaps And After Market Parts
3000gt Vr-4 = Only One Motor For It Thats Worthwhile, Needs Alot Of Power To Move Quickly, And Expensive Aftermarket
240sx = Cheap Initial Cost, Cheap Insurance, Decent Fuel Economy
3000gt Vr-4 = Expensive Initial Cost, Expensive Insurance, Poor Fuel Economy

umm no the vr-4 is a very powerful car, it is in the same class as supras and rx-7 if you people are wondering the vr-4 is a twin turbo 6 cyld, awd. great for 1/4 mile runs and with simple boltons like turbo back exhasut, intake, bigger dimater i/c piping, hi flow fuel pump, and a boost controller you can have a easy low 13's car with around 300whp.. thats not to bad in my book, i say if you but a 240sx and a vr-4 and put 5g' into both of them the vr-4 will blow the 240sx out the water.. their is no comparsion between these cars to different classes of car.. if this was a video game the 240sx is a B class and the vr-4 is a A class.. lolz i dont have anything agains the 240sx but if i had the chance to buy a vr-4 i would jump on it its a great car to own and very fast and has tons of potential.. btw the fuel economy in the vr-4 does not suck its a big myth that turbo cars have bad fuel economy.. if you drive off boost which you do most of the time you save sooo much gass..to get a honest answer you should post in the 3000gt forum as well so you can see both sides

Yeah Ok.... You Obviously Know Nothing About The Vr-4. The Vr-4 Is The Heaviest Car In Its Class, It Also Makes Less Power Than All The Cars In Its Class. The Fastest I've Seen A Vr-4 Run Stock Was A 14.9.... My Friend Had Upgraded Turbos, Injectors, Standalone, 98 Lsds Installed, And Full 3" Exhaust And All He Could Get Out Of It Was A 13.5 Quarter...... The Ride Control Featurs Of The Car Make It Very Boring To Drive And It Is Extremely Heavy For What It Is.
And $5000 In A Vr-4 Would Not Even Get You Close To Touching A 240sx With $5000 In Performance Mods In It. The 240sx Already Out Handles It By Far, So You Could Invest $5000 In All Power Mods And Get It To Rocket Down The Qaurter And Around The Track.

Ohh And Any Car That Weighs Almost 2 Tons Will Get Pooor Fuel Economy And To Me 19-23mpg Is Poor Fuel Economy.

ok go to the racing forums and see what people with vr-4 are doing then come back and talk shit..something must be wrong with your friend car then. voungsvr4 is a member here and hes into hi13's with just boltons.. so i dont know what the hell you are talkin about..and i see it very hard to spend only 5k into a 240sx and see hi 13's ..before you come telling me i dont know ish.. goo look up the facts and go see what people are doing with vr4 before ruling them out..

Did I Say Rb25det? No I Said Rb25de..... Big Difference Buddy.
I Hate My 240 I Wish I Would Have Gotten A 240z, And I Know My Car Is Anything..... But I Do Know That The 3000gts Are Crap. The Rb Is Just As Reliable As The Sr If Not More.
They Way You Spend Your Money Is More Important That How Much You Spend. I Know Tons Of People That Spends Thousands Of Dollars To Get The Same Results As Someone Who Sped Alot Less.
And That Car Has Doubled The Boost Pressure... So The Reliability Of Those Turbos Are Cut In Half If Not More.

Dude Did I Ever Say The 240sx Was The Best..... Hell If You Go Back Through All My Posts I Praise A Ton Of Cars. The 3000gt Is Not One Of Them Though. Supras Are Ok But They Are Heavy Also, The Rx-7 Is A Awesome Piece Of Machinery (if I Had The Cash I Would Own One), I Love Scoobies But Yet Again Too Expensive, And My List Goes On..... But Between A 240sx And Vr4 I'll Take A 240 Anyday Of The Week.

if I was rich and had a lot of money I'd take the VR4, it's pretty damn fast stock and looks hella awesome. But I'm not rich, and VR-4 is a lot less reliable than the 240. the 3000gt if you have plenty of money to throw away, b/c you will be spending a lot on maintenance and buying ew transmissions for that car.

I dont remember anyone saying that the 240sx was superior to all other cars. But it is a good begginer car and a good car to have fun in. And plus you will spend alot less money on maintaining it then a fat ass vr-4. So as you said "believe what you want and hopefully a supra, rx-7, or other hi proformance turbo cars spank you sense less one day.. then maybe you'll cange your 1 track mind..":angryfire
And if you like the vr-4 so much, then why dont you go over to that forum and talk about it. Dont come here and start arguments about how it is a superior car.

lets see....the money u save on buying a 240 compared to a vr-4 could help make it possibly just as quick. I dont know how much each car is that he is looking at so i dont know how much he would be saving.
and why do u think hes rich because he wants a vr-4....if your rich that peice of shit car is definently not on the list of things to buy.
and doesnt everybody like to think that there car of choice is "superior" to others (in a reasonable way). Were not saying our 240's would smoke ferraris are we??? It all comes down to preferances. but the 240 has some great kills for how it compares to other cars am i correct?
i mean there has to be a reason to why all of us 240 owners think that its superior right???? Maybe because it truly is a fun lil car to drive that has very high potential. That first time you go out and really drive the car hard...it just sucks you in and makes you its bitch and instant fan of it. And it's affordable for kids/young adults right of the bat. I dont know how many times iv been cruising down the highway and am like o shit im going 100mph...feels like your floating along at 70mph.
i dunno everything i have experienced with a 240 i have loved so maybe im biased but owell. sorry for the ranting.

a 240sx with 5000 worth of mods could so beat a VR-4 the difference in aftermarket support is so big that the 5000 won't get the VR-4 too much
VR-4 are great cars don't get me wrong my dad has one, my friend has one, and my bestfriend soo wanted one he researched the shiet out of it but ended up getting a 300zx don't ask me why i don't know
the 240 would be a better choice personally, i think espcially if your only 16 just because of cost difference in parts/servicing/insurance etc., I smoked my friends VR-4 in my 240
His VR-4: intake, exhuast3", injectors,FMIC, and turbo upgrades,
My 240 :intake, 3"exhuast, FMIC, Safc2, and sr20det (red)there is a difference in power between the reds and blacks (just a note)
And turbo2nr of course we're one sided your in our forum and your flaming us bout loving the 240sx
now here the big thing about the decision between getting the 240sx and the VR-4, How much do you really want each car? because i dont know about your area but its hard for me and mine to locate a decent VR-4 where i live, so you should also take rarity into account, i dunno if that VR-4 is always gonna be there for you
why is it that in so many threads there are ppl b1tching back and forth just eating up space and not helping the person.....

Which reminds me the vr-4 is the biggest bitch to work on in comparison to the 240sx.... I think the only other thing That I have worked on that compares to it is the ford probe GT or the Nissan Z32 300ZX NA and TT.

my defence is that ya'll are soem freaking 1 track newbies that need to open your minds and realize the freaking world isnt full of sr20det powered 240sx..
flaming would be me saying 240sx suck ass, they are a piece of shit that cannot be turned, and they are slow.. all i did in this post was show you the other side of this guys question you people gave him facts in the 240sx i gave him on the vr-4 o0o btw my neighbor has a 95 vr-4 and i helped him many times on the freaking car..
for the older members that do not post in here b/c of snooby newbies like you know me and know my love for the 240sx once again my user name was "sr20det2nr" for all you newbies but this was b4 your time..the 240sx is a fast car but it takes cash.. i seen it with my own eyes 5'g into a 240sx will not get you better then a hi13's time slip.. all of you who think its cost 2'g to drop a sr into a 240sx are wrong! i priced it, its an easy 4'g job.. and even after that simple blot ones wont get you better then low 14s and not more then 250-270whp thats when the small t-25 craps out.. so all of you who clam to have 300+hp form a sr with a stock t-25 are full of it, may shops in nyc has proven this, and its all over the internet..you newbies come here thinking you know all and no one can tell you anything thats why all the old members dont post here some of the pople who know most about 240sx refuse to post in here b/c of newbies that flame flame flame.. i was trying to educated you on the vr-4 not say the 240sx is bad..b/c its not but screw you people.. u'll learn about cars on your own...

well if you have a stock 240 and a stock 3000gt vr-4, if you put 5k in each car of course the 3000gt vr-4 is going to be faster. It is much faster stock, but it is also a much more expensive car. Now lets say if you had 13k to work with, that would buy you a 3000gt with a few simple bolt ons. With a 240sx, you can get for 3k than another 10k for mods. 240 will easily kill the 3000gt if you look at it that way. And sr20det's pricing varies, just depends where you get it from. My friend got his swap done for $2,500 b/c he and a friend both installed it in themselves. He has put 8gs into the car, and has beat m3s and integra Type Rs. He hasn't raced a VR-4 but I bet he would beat one.
It's all just preference. Personally I like the 3000gt vr-4 more. I'd take it if I had a lot of money to spend, it's much more aggressive and sporty than the 240sx, not to mention more unique. It is heavy though and costs loads on insurance, not to mention bad reliability. So if I was in your situation DSM, choose what you want. It's all just preference and don't go by just what other people say.

turbo2nr, if you go to the 3000GT forum you will see i started a thread there minutes after i started this one to get both sides of the story. And thanks for talkin good about the VR-4.
For you all, the question was; should i get the 240 now and get the VR-4 later or buy the VR-4 in a year then when i get the money buy the 240 and use the 240 as my daily-driver/high hp car and fastest a the 1/4 mile and have the VR-4 for the "summer" car or the car i drive when its really nice out. Not what car is better.
And you publicenemy137...you just rock...what you said is what i'm going to do...i'm going to get the VR-4 first. But i just wanted to hear the opinions of others first. Just incase if you knew something i didn't (witch is pretty had to out smart me on the 3000GT/VR-4) i wasn't going to go do something dumb and not be happy.
The 240 will be a step down from my 3000GT i have now but when i get the VR-4 i'm going to mod it some then after that i'll get the 240 and mod it like crazy and then it will be a step up from the 3000GT i have now. But will be on the same level as a VR-4 because its about style from then on. The 240 will be a get out of my way look or if you dont i'll eat you alive look. And the VR-4 will be a sporty and outspoken car but yet not share it power to the world...but whats really under the hood is a power monster (pretty much a sleeper type of car). Thanks for you input, if you still have more please share!

hey now. lets not be talking about the 300zx that way. as you can see i had a 91 tt never had any problems. i sold it because of college money btw. next car is 240 haha. but please man leave the 300 out of this AMAZING car. i do however agree with the reliability of the 3000gt being terrible, horrible transmissions.

haha the guy likes Subaru's but not a 3000gt...
im not hating the subaru camp
but does anyone else feel this is odd? lol
oh and everyone always raved about the WRX and how baddass it was and how it could kick a 240sx's ass so easily in any category, well that was complete fucking bullshit from my observations LOL
I think why some people like the 240sx so much is why can't it be the best car ever? Really think about it, I believe these cars have more aftermarket parts then mustangs and corvettes. How many different kind of coilovers can you get for a S chassis, its almost mind boggling. It has a decent chassis and design to begin with. The possibilities are limmited only by your imagination(not nessecarily your wallet) see with all these parts availble its easier and cheaper to make it better. Yeah money can do anything but 10k spent on a 240sx and 10k spent on oh lets say a Pontiac Fiero(something without a lot of aftermarket) the 240sx is going to be a lot more car.
im not hating the subaru camp
but does anyone else feel this is odd? lol

Most of you know, my preference to cars is what they have in them, not who made them. Case in point, I liked the 240 cuz it was the lightest RWD with a good price. I had a SHO and a Trans-am, but after being smoked by a TT Supra in my T-ram 1yr ago, I realized that I needed something lighter, that could handle well,, and was easy on the wallet for mods (the mustang I wanted and T-ram I had just couldn't hang) .
Option 1, Supra, then I saw the curb weight and price, price ruled it out for me, well for now, and weight just made it easier for me to live with the decision. II or III Rx7, very light, but didn't like the II gen looks, and III was too expensive. 300ZX, costs on maintenance as I do my own work, no space in the engine bay and 400lbs more than 240. 240 stood out all the way. I had also the choice of the AWD eclipses, but they are based on a FWD platform, and this would have created a problem. I believe in Ferraris Concept, get a Tiny car, and swap the biggest Fucking engine that will fit. I chose the SHO block cuz I know I can get 290hp just by tuning and returning the original CAMS that Yamaha made and not those ford put, also, I have redlined that engine (rev limit 8000rpm) so many times reliably.
I did a timing belt on a VR4, and I am sorry I hate those cars, I like the way they look, but I would rather work on a Z32 anyday, took two days to replace the timing belt, and valve cover gasket. The curb weight was off the roof, we used an ATV to move it around the shop, every other car we pushed, it weighed over 4200lbs, parts were very $$$$$, the guy who owned it was rich, he had two, the hard top conv and the reg. You can't put a VR4 in the same class as a Supra, to keep up you will need to have atleast 100hp to make up the weight diff. the handling of the AWD will help, but from the guys own words, they aren't the best handling cars, even with AWD. I don't vouch for the 240 cuz of the performance, but, the 240s' potential I think exceeds all imports, as it is the underdog of the nissan line-up of high end sports cars, and that it was made to accept parts from it's more expensive counterparts. I really hated the KA, but knew that the cars handling was unmatched, and the potential was off the scale. In the 96 motor trend, they said, it was offered handling capabilities that rivaled cars four times it;s price range, and yet at a fraction of the price. Question, how many VR4 race teams are there????
Mods are cheap on a 240, Instead of big brake kits like everyone has to go buy, we go to the salvage yard and pay $250 for an all around brake upgrade from the ZX, as opossed to $600 just for the front of any car. 300ZX is in the same class as the Skyline so upgrading to skyline parts, doesen't make a big diff. I wan't another S14 unless I get enough cash to buy a III RX7, till then, I will continue with my project.

so let me get this right?
12,500 for engine mods, chassis mods, complete suspension mods, car price, cage, tires, wheels, brakes, all for only 12,500? Come on man stop the BS you couldn't do that to a yugo for that price haha. and Id like to see a normal street legal car like you say it is, run the 1/4 mile in 11.2 seconds with only 300hp to the wheels. You realize it takes like 500-600hp in RWD drag cars purpose built with drag slicks to run high 10's? AWD doesn't give you that much of an advantage on setup drag cars, if it did the fastest accelerating cars in the world would have it(top Fuel or hell even Pro Stock), which they don't.
and your also comparing a rally prepped race car to a stock mitsubishi 3000gt.... apples and oranges, thats like comparing Nascar to F1.

wanna bet?
I can even get you one at that price depending on the cost of the car under going the knife. You know how? you can get subbies at auction for a couple grand, this guy gets whole spec ra type c rally cars in japan anywhere from 3k - 6k then he builds the cage and puts on custom coilovers. you do the math.... ohh abd the stock spec ra type c engine make over 380 hp after computer tune and boost up.
you know why those cars take so much power to run 10's? traction loss. Here you can even use one of those extremely conservative calculators http://www.pontiacracing.net/calchpe.htm
where did I ever compare the 3000gt to a spec ra type c?

Logik I live in ATL, I was in Kenya back in the 80s' and early 90s. In Kenya, you had to have some strong cars to survive, when they say off road back there, trust me when I say it is a whole nother level you've never seen. Some places there was a whole eco-system striving in the pot holes (just kiding). It was tight but it is known to have some of the most challenging Rally tracks in the world.

Yes, its 300 at all four of the wheels. That car didn't under go a ecu tune or get any exhaust upgrades yet..... when it did they dyno'd at just over 330 whp when they traded the tmic for the fmic it gained about 10 more hp.... but they ultimately went back to tmic for the rally aspect and to prevent ic damage and leaks.

You guys should check out that link I posted about 5 min ago. 404whp on a stock KA. Jspec posted a while back about a guy running a 10 on a built KA. I think it comes down to the owner(how well he tuned the car and how well he can drive). I don't know a whole lot about the 3k engine, but I know a little about the KA and it is definately capable of sprinting when some pressure is added if you know what I mean. 3k will ultimately make more power built.

So Iread about the 840rwhp VR-4. It's owned by Pit Road M, a japanese tuning shop. Everything, and I mean everything under the hood and in the drivetrain was modified, that includes, a carbon-fiber driveshaft and modified combustion chambers, don't ask....lol. They converted the twin turbo setup to a single Greddy T88, everything else on the car comes from MFR Fighter so if you have a 3000GT, they are the ones to see. lol

ok just for the sake of the person that started this thread i am going to post this again
If you really want and are determined to get both cars i would suggest getting the VR-4 first as it is probly the rarer of the two cars depending that just how it is here where i live, there is an abudance of 240s some it wouldnt be that big of a loss if you dont get it now
either way according to your own words you'd own em both sooner or later
ok i hope i didnt put anything up that someone will try to use against me

It must be great to own your own tuning shop and build these crazy ass cars everyday. And if my calculations are correct, using a multiplecation factor of 1.19 for the drivetrain loss, scenes how he has a carbon fiber driveshaft and other goodies, that VR-4 is making exactly 1000hp at the flywheel. Well its 999.6, but thats close enough. Did they say what it ran? Never mind, thats Super Street.

that 804 hp is proabably either flywheel or doctored up because it is super street, and second that much power is going to cause major traction loss so it will have a slower time than a underpowered vehicle.
and If you guys look at that article that car is completly gutted and race ready... so its no longer a 4000lb car.

I can get a r32 gtr front clip for 2,500 shipped. I can swap it in just like that with the crossmember. Or I can spend 300 dollars more and do it the right way with mounts. Plus the drifeshaft work probally about 200 dollars.
That's 300+ hp in my originally 2,700 lb car + 200 more lbs for the 26.
I will say 3000 lb.s max
Wow it's called weight to power ratio, and your vr4 is slowww and fat what do they weigh like 3,400 lbs? and everything costs a fortune.
you can get a sr20det redtop front clip for 1500 shipped and throw a big turbo on it and get high twelves.
Look at sport compact car magazines project junkyard silvia. They used a sr20det and put some coil overs on it and a lsd.
There is no point in talking the vr4 is going to run you more than a 240sx with an engine swap running a lower 1/4

Umm you really need to look at that article again and at all the pictures.... I have the magazine in front of me right now. It has no carpet or sound deadening material, the panels are gone, in japan they dont have to have all the safety featurs like the us so there are no door crossbeams, no full front bumper cores, no i-beam supports, etc. This car is probably over 500lbs less than a stock US car. As Jason said it power to weight ratio.
I'm not shitting on anything with potential because everything has potential, its all a matter of whats economically potential and how much bang for the buck are you really getting..... With the vr-4 its not much as compared to a 240sx, ae86, mr2, honda civic, integra, rx-7, supra, etc.

ok people lets just put it this way. on a drag strip, a 240 vs. a VR4 with equal amount of mods in terms of money. ofcourse the VR4 will win, just because its gonna have more power plus the AWD advantage. now, take those 2 cars to lets say the Suzuka circuit, Laguna Seca or whatever twisty road course you can think of. the 240 will run circles around this thing in the turns, the VR4 might just touch it on the straights, but a road course isnt exactly gonna serve up a loarge number of straights. so drag strip winner = VR4. road course winner = 240sx. its all your preference man, my opinion is they're both hell of a cars, they just excel in different areas. but in terms of just plain cost, the VR4 is gonna kill you, so if you go that way save up your lunch money cuz you'll need it. *off topic, dsm, i saw how shut them haters up when they were doubting you having a 3000GT, i admit, i was suspicious at first too, but not to the point i was jump all over your ass for it, good job shuting up them assholes :bigthumb:
