94 sc4: check engine soon...a saga in the making

1994 sc4...used engine put in has 107k miles on it (the engine before it had 223k)

ok...here we go...

i had a used engine put into my saturn in february after a fan sensor failed and with no warning lamps or anything, my engine seized up...they put in the engine, replaced the sensor, said my thermostat was ok, but that it ran hot (at 3/4) but that the fan came on...all seemed to be good, the car ran great...

then a week later, as i was doing my weekly fillup and check my oil, it was a bit over a quart low...i called the mechanic up (not a dealer), he gave me something to work on the rings and then gave me a second bottle, telling me i may need to add it a week later...that at times it takes 2 treatments...

car still goes through oil...burns it...the mechanic tells me that it looks like it just is gonna burn oil and there is nothing i can do about it...so after $1800, i could not do anything more for i already had spent a load...

when i drive long distances or am on the road a good portion of the day, i now have to add oil more frequently...and i check it before i go on long drives (60 miles) just to make sure i am set...

but i have now noticed that i get on the highway, and it will get into the red zone...hell, it seems to get up that way pretty easily now...and at times there is no acceleration, like its choking...so i turn on the heater full blast to get it out of the red zone and to a place where i can let it cool down...this was sunday when i had to do this...it was really hot though, and it was a quart low so i wrote it off to needing oil...oh, the fan was on and works...

yesterday, i went to get my kids and on the way back the temp was at a bit above 3/4, everything was going really smoothly...but my check engine light came on...there was oil & coolant...

i guess i am looking for some guidance as to what might be going on here...i am kinda stuck with this mechanic out here for i am in a rural area and not a whole lot of options due to distance...but i also would like some ideas so i know he's not taking advantage of this situation...

any input is appreciated!!!

thanks!!!

my thoughts? bad waterpump, ECT, rings or all three.

what you need to do is go over to saturnfans.com, repost this, along with the replaced engine year and model (i assuming sc4 is a typo)

also do a search there for "MMO soak" and "ECT"
