This is gonna be a bit long sorry,
Up until recently i was convinced that i would sell my 4g sedan to a wrecker for $AUD600 and get a Falcon!!! Well as it turns out i cant part with the civic.

Anyway so i took it into where my mum bought it 14 years ago this morning to get some work done. Major service, timing belt, all drive belts, air filter, boot seal (exhaust fumes really turn the chcicks on) and get the Carbies overhauled so this is 1500 thats cool. As it turns out they need to do a compression check and it needs a new water pump and bout 2500 worth of other parts ie sump gasket, brakes, trailing arms & other little thiungs etc so providing the compression is all good i get the carbies done.

its a D15B completley stock so should i get it all fixed up or should i look at gettin another motor, i know that the D15 isnt a performance motor i was gunna do a few little things but being that im on my P's still i dont want to do much in the engine department blah blah blah

I think you get the point oppinions would be appreciated thanks

you should find out how much it will cost to fix compared to a better engine. if the cost is close just get the better engine. good luck with all this

The price for an engine (a nice one) is about as much as your repairs - 2000-2500, some with a core charge, etc. If you can put it in yourself that'd be great, but if you get another mechanic to put it in might be a lil costly. You might be able to rebuild your current engine for the same sorta price

change motors i would mate, get a Si or a ZC and throw in there

yea looks like your spending a grip of money to fix an engine that is more easily replaced then fixed. make sure you do all that work, change the water pump, gaskets, compression, ect to the new engine before you put it in so you have a strong engine with no problems.

Well the compressions came back ok so, all i need is a sump gasket and a water pump, ill keep the engine now and get a rear discs i think

Civic Jim
07-06-2004, 09:43 AM
thats cool, i would maybe get some springs and a filter insstead of rear discs, you have to go quick before you need to slow down fast haha

pdon

or i could get a fully sik exhaust and a shopping list on the side, i wanna do the discs cos the drums are dead and i wanna stop at any speed not just fast hehe

Civic Jim
07-06-2004, 09:48 AM
or you could just change the drum shoes, i very much doubt the drum is scored unless you have been driving it on the metal which aint clever, and the shoes arent expensive anyway, you dont need to uprate to discs on an engine like that mate its not needed at this stage in modding IMO

im not being too clear sorry, basically the trailing arms are dead, drums are leaking, and the shoes are knacked, but thats wot u get fro buying a car off ur mum lol, i was gunna do the discs cos all that is stuffed and just thought it would be a bit cheaper in the long run to do it now, i could be wrong however

Civic Jim

ah right yeah may as well then mate, sorry i wasnt having a go just coudlnt see the logic to start with lol, is it a hatch or a sedan ? didnt the Si 90-91 crx come with discs over there?

Civic Jim
