Buzzing sound?

I own a 93.5 G20 and when I tried to install my clarion cd player everything seemed to work until I heard the sound. To wire the deck I used a wiring harness for nissans from a local shop. That piece fit perfectly and all the colored wires matched. It did not turn on until I removed the black ground wire and clamped it to a large metal bar deep in the dash. Now it turns on fine, but the sound is terrible quality and is a constant buzzing interference type sound. Could someone please help me figure out what to do with the ground?

That sound is the output (wattage) from your aftermarket head unit interfereing with your stock amps... Remember on the G20, the head unit doesn't send out an amplified signal, the signal is amplified when it gets to the stock speakers. when you install an aftermarket deck, you're sending out an already amplified signal to your stock amps, which amplifys it again. to get rid of the buzzing either get rid of the stock amps, and run new speaker wire from the head unit to the speakers, or, get an inline Decibal reducer to lower the wattage coming out of the head unit

I don't think I want to buy a new amp, so where could I find an inline decible reducer that would work for my application, and would I be able to install it myself?

You wouldn't have to buy a new amp, just take out the old one, and run new speaker wire through the whole car.. kind of a pain in the ass. You can get an inline decible reducer at any car stereo/security shop. you have to wire it in to the harness. basically, if you installed the stereo yourself, you should be able to do this.

Inline dB reducers don't always work that well. You prob want ones w/ higher resistance, if you use them. I would try it w/o the amp first.

Does the "buzz" seem to increase/decrease w/ the RPM's??? Then you might wanna try a different/better ground.

how would i go about re wiring the speakers throughout the car? the buzzing is annoying and i was wondering if it would be cheaper to just re wire the speakers to take out the amps...and even if i have the amps in with the new head unit will it hurt anything with the stock speakers in?

no no no no no... You don't need to rewire the whole car. That's where they're wrong...

I blew out my rear speakers after I put in my Pioneer head unit. All you do is follow the wires that would have gone into the amplifier and cut them just before the amp. Then cut the wires that left the amp to go to the speakers just after the amp. Find which wires went to which speaker from before the amp (one pos, one neg) and attach them to one of the wires that left the amp and go to that respective speaker. The color of the wires that left the amp don't matter now b/c they are "plain slates" They will take on whatever type of wire you attach to them.

I'll try to edit this after class so it makes more sense, or you could PM me and I'll explain in more detail.

No need to run more wires. Just invest in some female-female (butt) connectors.
