I called Crutchfield the other day to order a new head unit for my G20. I have always been told that it is "impossible" to adapt the stock Infiniti "Active Speaker" setup to anything else. Turns out that for $49.99, Crutchfield has the necessary adapter to let you hook an aftermarket head unit to your stock amps and speakers. I didn't use the adapter because I am an audio nut and always run my own wiring for the speakers and the amps, but I thought I would mention it in case any one else needs the info.

yeah, they sell those harnesses at most audio shops. Its a special head unit harness, right? when I did a P10 stereo, the guy at the shop showed it to me, but I didn't have enough money to get it.

Yeah they (Crutchfield) mentioned something about that I should buy that adaptor because it would prevent my factory wiring from being burnt out when I replaced my radio. Is that true?

Yeah Crutchfield sells them for $50. Get it any other place for $20 to $30.
It doesnt prevent anything from burning out. When you remove your stock radio the wires going to it are on a plug. This adapter plugs into that plug and then you crimp the wires coming out of it to your new radio's wires. This way you can do all the wiring without having to cut off your stock radio connector.

You guys are missing something. This isn't just the $15 connector. it's actually a black box that converts the speaker level signal from the aftermarket head unit to the line level (or whatever level it takes) of the stock amps. It is the black box and the $15 cable.

OIC...
I've been using mine for 2.5 years though w/o any black box and the system has held up fine.

You also have a P11. I was referring to whatever fits my 93.5 G20. Don't know about any other years.
For an example of why you need the adapter, check out this thread.
