Muffler band

Hi all: Question for anyone who's encountered this...

My '95 Saturn SL goes in for inspection next week; it's likely to need some work, including possibly a muffler. Problem is that on Friday, I heard this "clunk" as I was driving home from work, upon getting home I see that a steel band that apparently had secured the muffler to the body had rusted through.

I would really like to avoid having my muffler fall off between now and inspection, but am wondering how difficult it would be to go buy another band and install it myself. Any advice is appreciated!

it happens alot, how easy it is depends on how rusted it is. you can get it at the dealer or most part store. most of the time its two or three screws.

This band rusts off easily. The guy at Tuffy Muffler told us that the most repair he usually does on Saturns is replace that little band. He said their exhaust systems really last

It won't fall off, I let mine bang for a long time. The bang is when it bumps up and down on the rear suspension. Ususally you can use the existing hardware. Just slide the hanger over a little.
If the band actually broke, which I haven't seen, then as said buy the part and replace the band, and hanger.
