what is this on 02 impala

Ok, this is on the 3.4 engine, if you look at the fuel lines, you will see a little pipe come off of them. It has something to do with suction. When we pulled it off of the car, the noise we have been hearing went away, when we put it back on, we can hear the noise again. Sorry for the very vauge description, but don't remember what it is called.

Here's how to find it:

Look at the oil cap.

Look to the right untill you see the pcv valve (i think that's right?)

follow the pcp vavle?'s wire/hose up untill you see a smaller one. That smaller one is the one i'm talking about.
