Wow! Well, i guess a big polishing wheel on a bench grinder would make pretty fast work of it, but man, talk about some labor! Oh yeah... It would look mighty nice :sun:

Actually, way too rich. You vent the air. The fuel is added in the manifold, almost at the valves. The ECU will think more air is there than there is and add the appropriate amount of fuel. But the air won't be there so there will be too much fuel.

I dunno what I was thinking... I meant rich not lean. Hehe.. I even said you would be missing air since you are venting. Therefore producing a rich state, which is where I was going w/ the too much fuel thing.

Actually E36 is the model of M3... the same as saying P10 G20 or P11 G20...

M3 is a model name like "G20"

E36 is a chassis... like "P11" or "P10"

E46 M3 is the newest one. Before that there was the E36 M3, and the first was the E30 M3

...from Luke's story, sounds like I won't get toasted in my P11 either.

The intercooler piping sounds intriguing. I might do some Swain coating black body emitter (Roffe style). Not as pretty as polished aluminum, but more functional. Do we have any materials engineers out there who can quantify the difference in heat dissipation properties?

yeah i was wondering about that- isn't the specific heat of aluminum very low?? meaning that it takes less energy to raise it one degree in temperature... (gets hotter than other metals out there)

not good right?

from what i understand, aluminum doesn't dissipate heat as well as other metals (copper, brass) but it's stronger and lighter so they can make fins out of thinner walled tubing and can make them larger as well. So, the metal itself is at a disadvantage but it's weight and stiffness allow it to be formed in such a way as to outweigh those disadvantages. This is true for radiators, at least. I would assume it would be the same for intercoolers as well.

Despite our excellent handling, I think they'll leave us in the twisties. They have a better chassis.

Dan, there was a discussion about this on the SE-R list about a month or three ago (no longer than that). Someone posted some equations for figuring some of that out.

BTW, the black on my IC is taking a beating mounted in the lower grill. I'm going to have to touch it up now and then. But, you still cannot tell there is an IC there unless you're really on the ball.

Actually, recirculating it will definitely correct a driveability issue Luke and I have discussed a few times.

why hide the intercooler by coating it black...OK, perhaps it DOES lower the temp like 3degrees...but what's wrong with leaving it silver?

Christ, and you jumped my shit about my wheels (bling bling and all that crap :) ).

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with leaving it silver. I just prefer the understatement and stealth.
