2000 Windstar - fuse #6

If you drive a 2000 Windstar, would you mind doing me a favor? Look in the fuse box under the dash and tell me what's sitting in fuse #6.

I had my van at a local mechanic, who lost the fuse that was in there during diagnostic testing. Now, keyless entry and radio don't work.

Long story, short; I ended up at the Ford dealer and parts desk can not figure out what the correct fuse is that goes in that slot. Manuals say 15-amp, but this fuse is a long/square-type fuse that doesn't come as a 15-amp fuse. The lowest is 20-amp, I believe. Ford is still researching. Yeah, OK!!!

So, if you drive a 2000 Windstar, please let me know what's sitting in that fuse spot (#6). Is it a long/square type fuse? What color? What ampere?

Much appreciated!!!!!

On my '99 it is a standard blue 15a mini fuse attached to some kind of extender. This may or may not be what yours is.

Thanks, Sahib

That's weird; an extender? I'm amazed that not even would Ford know about this. I'll have to ask them about it.

For those interested;

I went to a different Ford dealer yesterday and got this straightened out. Here's the deal. The #6 fuse is a regular 15-amp mini-fuse that is held in by a plastic holder that allows you to insert the fuse into the deep slot. Without the extender, you just need to use a needle-nose plier to access the fuse. I actually had the dealer go out in the lot and pull one from another Windstar just so we could see what the heck the setup was. No Ford documentation or Ford manual or Ford computer-held data made any mention of this piece.

Now my wife has her radio back and I have piece of mind.

The #6 fuse has the extender on it to aid in its removal should you wish to park the van for a long time with no use. This fuse goes to the keyless entry, radio, and anything else that gets power all the time.
