What movie do you think has the best car chase scene?

primera man
05-13-2001, 02:53 PM
The car chase from the "Blues Brothers" though the shopping mall etc

enzo@af
05-13-2001, 03:33 PM
Yeah, I think the rock has the best, simply because it's got a Ferrari chasing a Hummer. I mean, how cool is that?

No way man!! Gone in 60 seconds is the best. That mustang was hauling some serious ass and to do the things that Nicholas Cage did(or stunt man)is simply ballsy!!

I just thought the Gone in sixty seconds jump was too fake. It ruined the rest of it, you know? Of course, seeing a F355 crash through a window was terribly painful, even though it was a replica.

I chose "Other" cause the four up there are all the best I've seen and I couldn't choose one. The other one is from 1970 something in "The Spy who loved me" with James Bond and his Lotus Esprit. It had machine guns, oil and underwater capability. It was the best in it's time. Another one would be from Batman Returns, I just like the chases with unrealistic cars that do the impossible.

i had to vote for gone in 60 seconds. ive always loved old mustangs and that shelby kicked ass. i love when he hit the NOS. that was sweet. 2nd place goes to ronin those chase scense were crazy. :D

But he was hitting 7000 rpm when he hit it, and then 9 after, that car redlines at 5. It should have blown the engine. The rock has the best one. Painful as it is to see a car ruined like that, at lest it was more realistic.

Gone in 60 seconds . . . hands down . . .

Not to mention the traffic light drag scene with the Porsche and the Civic . . . that's got to be the best movie opener I've seen in a long while . . .

Matter of fact how about the F1 racers on the streets of the city at night . . . "Driven" that was some hot schitt!!

05-15-2001, 02:59 PM
um, those old stangs redline pretty high... 5k isnt close, especially a shelby...

and, how many people here have seen bullit? that was an awesome chase with an old mustang... kinda set the standard for chases...
san fran city streets...

bullit led to the rock...
bullit led to gone in 60 w/ the stang...

bullit was awesome, especially the crash into the gas station.... that was awesome...

go watch it... then revote

I totally agree. I would love to own that Shelby Mustang from the movie. I'm looking now to see if they made a 1:18 scale of it. I'ma kop two of them.

Brittany Spears is cool.
N'sync is cool.
Lemonheads were cool too.:D

I hope you all know that the GT500 in the movie was a replica and not evenclose to a real one. That one looks a bit better than the real one but it ain't real, not by a long shot.

BTW, regarding the Porsche scene at the beginning, they used a real 911 to jump out the window. The only thing you didn't see was the $4000 in front-end damage the car took when it jumped out. Another thing also, the Hummer's 0-60 time is about 18 seconds.

The new movie "The Fast and the Furious", that comes out June 22, 2001. I'm sure you guys seen the previews and I was just looking at the insert I had in Super Street magazine about the '94 Turbo-charged Supra that's used in the movie. I think the racing scene and the cop chase scene will sure beat a lot of movies out there.

But I still drooled when I saw that Audi in "Ronin" racing down the side of the mountain...*drool* Good stufffffff =)

Bullitt was the best, hands down. I got to see it in the theatre last year; it was great on the big screen.

Ronin is a close second. The part of the chase in the tunnel, on the wrong side of the road is wonderfully intense.

I would also like to make write in votes for:

Gone in Sixty Seconds [1973] - The rest of the movie sucked like a Hoover, but they staged like twenty minutes of cop-car-smashing chase scene!
Heat - Now I can't remember the details, but I remember a good freeway chase.

Also, for some great chase scenes: www.bmwfilms.com. The first two were great; I haven't seeen the third yet. Of course the better your connection, the better they'll be.

Re: Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds (the remake)
The Eleanor car was called and made-up to be a GT500, but none of them were. They had either 11 or 13 Eleanors for filming and most were built from GT350s, even the ones they wrecked.

I had to vote for The Rock - if for nothing else than this phrase after the chase (sorry if I don't quote correctly):
Dude on the bike: Hey, man, you just smashed your Ferrari!!!
NC: It's OK, it' not my Ferrari.

My heart was bleeding when I saw a streetcar smash the 355. Please tell me it was a replica!

I take back my vote for Heat. I watched it again; it doesn't have crap in it.

I'd like to replace it with The French Connection. I'm surprised it took this long to come up.

Other Bullitt stuff here, I's actually spelled with two t's not one and the Charger never actually hit the gas station, I haven't done this myself but, if you have a DVD and play it frame by frame you will see it actually passes through behind te station. Ronin would have been my next choice cause there's two great chases and the S8 will just blow the doors off anything out there! as for BMwfilms.com, I strongly advise people with fast modems to go there, "STAR" has got to be the best film I've ever seen even though it's only 6 min long. Go now and see it!

Jay!
06-29-2001, 07:25 AM
Yeah, STAR was great. Watch where the coffee goes. ;)

I'll have to try the gas station thing with my Bullitt DVD. Thanks. :flash:

On the movie "driven", the latest bulls... coming from stallone, 2 drivers steal their cars for a night ride. Those are not F1 as mentinoned here. Those are suppose to be cart cars.
Stallone was kicked out from F1 by Bernie, the best that could happens.
bad movie, baaaaaad movie.

I like the chase on ronin as i love european cars.

I was amazed that Bullitt was not the winner hands down. Someone said that 'the Bullitt' chase scene set the bar for chase scenes. They are right.

I think maybe some of you haven't seen the movie, go watch it, then come back and vote. And, when you are watching that scene, remember, Steve McQueen, an actor, did most of the driving.

I was also amazed at the lack of discussion of the Madmax and Road Warrior chases. Remember the tanker truck finale at the end of Road Warrior?
Or, probably my 2nd favorite all-time chase, from Mad Max (no not thunderdome, the movie before road warrior) was with the Nightrider vs. Max near beginning of the film.
Hell yeah that was bitchin!

And...
The Blue's Brothers movie, the chase from the Music Hall to the tax office. I've never seen so many cop cars destroyed.
And the end of the chase, where the car falls apart, and the statues looking down pondering the whole thing....
damn hilarious!! That's my #3.

I was about to hit submit when.....
I remembered, I think it was Dirty Harry, where he is being chased by that radio controlled car. That was pretty cool too.

All of the chases mentioned were good but the the best were:

1, Gone in 60 secs (The origional)
2, The Gumball rally (427 Cobra Vs farrari Daytona)
3, Vanishing point (mopar heaven)

Blues Brothers (and can ID almost every part of Chicago it was shot in).

Ronin - They actually chased in the Paris Tunnel that Princess Di died in

Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) - Sorry, but 40 minutes and 93 cars wrecked beats all. Plus the main star did the stunts himself.

The Rock - The F355 chase was phat

The Driver - Chevy Pickup versus Firebird. The wild thing was that the p/u was hanging in there.

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry

The 7 Ups

The French Connection

There is a site that has a list of the best movie Car Chases. www.carchasefan.com

My vote would have to be "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" .. made in about 1962. The whole movie is a car chase, those old cars lean like hell on the corners, and the stunts are pretty gutsy by any measure.

Other obscure car-chase movies to watch out for in the bargain-basement section of your local video store include:

'White Line Fever'
with James Taylor (can't act for nuts) and that Beach Boys drummer guy. Features a '55 Chev 454, a plus is Warren Oates in a GTO Pontiac 455.

'The Man from Hong Kong'
truly appalling movie only saved by a great chase scene, in which the asian star does a total 'Banzai' and wrecks a brand new (aussie) Charger .. along with anything else unfortunate enough to be sharing the road that day.

'Breathless' (the remake, with Richard Gere)
not a chase movie as such, but good for perving at cars; those shapely models are beautiful, as is the younger Natasha Kinski ... :licker:

I'll just chime in quickly. I really do like the Ronin chase scenes because there's no computer trickery. that and I haven't seen many of the other movies... :P

I haven't seen The Rat Race, Gang$tarr .. but the original is a terrific movie.
Being a comedy is a plus, also that Chryco supplied many of the cars, so there's fins and Virgil Exner style thru-out.

Featured actors include Spencer Tracy, Mickey Rooney through to the wonderful Phil Silvers in a '46-48 Ford Convertible (which becomes an automotive Titanic) plus cameo appearances galore.

Definately worth a look!

heh, they werent designed for speed, and I would like to know what the hell they did to it to make it go that fast anyways? they must have took out some weight and dropped in something with like 600hp, or done some sweet video editing.

My vote is for Gone in 60 Seconds. Sure the jump may have looked fake, but there were some pretty realistic parts, compared to the rock (a ferrari going at it with a hummer?) :bloated:

I think someone forgot to mention the chase scene from the original gone in 60 seconds. Well, that scene sucked, but no one mentioned it. Well, it didn't suck that much. C'mon, a 71 Ford Mustang Mach 1 vs a ford Montigo? it makes for some good racin.

My favourite is Ronin, in the chase where Diedre, Gregor and the goofy Irish guy are in the 5-series getting away from Sam and Vincent in the Peugeot 406, there was a lot of destruction there...........:D :D :D

The are all talkin about the new one. I though the 70's one was way too fake. like when he hit the pole? He should been done. and the acting in that movie definitely did suck ass.

OK, here's the scoop on the rock. If you watch the crash in slow motion, you can see the whole passenger side of the car, including the door, ripple as a solid piece. Now that's pretty good proof that it's a fake. I was rather relieved to see that.
