I think that gone in 60 seconds is great because of the amount of incredible cars it has. The Porsche scene in the beginning was awesome. Giovanni Ribisi in incredible in that movie. Also the "Eleanore" scene with the GT500 was really great especially great with the city scene. Also, Nicholas Cage is known for driving incredible cars- a 360 Modena that he owned was auctioned off on Ebay. But still the Rock's chase scene was great. I loved when Sean Connery said- I'm only borrowing yawr HumVee. Hahahaha incredible. And then when the chase scene ended the kid said- Wow man you just wrecked your ferrari. Not to mention that the car was absolutely flattened. I think that both of those deserve credit for being the best.

How about the car chase between Thandie Newton and Tom Cruise in MI2??? Carrera Tiptronic and Audi TT intercooled. I mean it wasn't that long, but it still was a great chase. But I still couldn't help cringing when the Carrera started getting ripped apart.

I would have to say Gone in 60 Seconds or Ronin. The scene in Bullit was ok, but why the hell do people go around smashing up perfectly good Chargers, why???? Give them to me you damn fools!!!!

The original gone in sixty seconds has an awsome car chase, although the movie sucks. 45 minutes long (so the cover says- and it seems pretty close) pluse some of the cars/pedestrians/construction workers don't know they are in a movie. Ronin is one of the best, plus the French Connection is good because again the cars were not stunt cars except for the two that he crased into under the Elevated Train.

Someone knows the movie "Taxi" or "Taxi2" by Luc Besson they have awesome chasess there too. One between a Peugeot 106 WRX and a completly modded 406 V6. And several others with Mercedes and Mitsu Lancer EVO VII.:bandit:

The Italian Job with the 3 minis (??? I can't remember if this was the title or not  ) :)

GiSS was cool but Blues Brothers has to be the classic :)

Dammit - an Aussie and I forget the chase scenes in Mad Max and Mad Max II - not the cut US versions (Road Warrior - WTF  ) with the dubbed voices either - the real movies :p

No need to post then is there :p

Bullitt set the stage for many of the car chases later filmed. That is a classic. There have been so many it is hard to choose one or say one is better than the other.
Other Notables:

Eat my dust - Gotta love watching a Chevelle Stock car rip up country roads while hick cops are trying to keep up. The story line suxed though.

The Blues Brothers - I actually took off work and watched a bit of the filming. When they cop car landed in the truck trailer. That was filmed just outside of Huntely on I-94. Everyone should watch that movie lol.

It's a mad mad mad mad world - Great old film with a decent plot and story line. Crazy people gone completely off their rockers.

Smokey and the Bandit - Burt Renyolds and Jackie Gleason how can we forget them :lol2:

If you want realizism check out Getaway in Stockholm 1 and 2 ! #2 was better with a cosworth and Supra tearing up the streets of Stockholm.

I will think of more and come back.

Eat my dust

Did that feature one time pop star & teen idol has-been :apuke:
Leif Garrett, filmed in NZ?

If so yeah, good pick. I'd been trying to think of the title. Yonks since I've seen it, but if memory serves correctly it had particularly impressive high speed in-car footage, shot on public roads, and with no seatbelts for curly top ..

Gutsy Stuff !!

Actually it is filmed in the southern part of the United States, but I can not for the life of me remember which state. Maybe Georgia or South Carolina. Eat my dust was a bunch of kids who go to a stock car race in the late 60's early 70's and the leading star decides to try and impress a young gal by stealing the winning car and taking her for a joy ride. It is filmed on back country roads through farm lands with some pretty funny parts but mostly just high speed driving and yacking.

Mebe the one I'm thinking of is a remake Razorgstst? Synopsis sounds eerily similar although curly top was I think the (ahem) protoge of an older guy. Only saw it once, about 10 years ago, and fairly positive it was shot & set in kiwi-land. I liked it!

I will see if I can dig the movie up at a couple of video shops. Once I find out will post the findings. I am intrigued now.

Orrite

Can't recall the title, made perhaps 15 years ago in NZ, dirt-track 'kit car' style Trans-Am mebe?

just remember to look for Lief Garrett - not Luke Skywalker :)

Do those details sound like Smash Palace to you, Darkness?

Thank you very much for that! I'll look out for it on the lower shelves :)

I've long forgotten the title. From background cars it possibly had an early 80's look to it, and the driving scenes at least were strong & realistic

Humm maybe I will have to look for that movie also and have a gander at it. Sounds as though it would be good.
