2001 Impala Brake Noise

Just got a 2001 with ABS and 54,000 miles and what appear to be the original brake pads. When light braking it gives a clicking noise from the drivers side front proportional to the speed of the car. The ABS works properly under hard braking.
I have pulled the front wheels and retorqued to spec. This did not solve the noise so I pulled the wheels and switched side to side and pulled off the drivers side caliper and disk. Cleaned all the mating surfaces and reassembled everything. The noise stayed away for a day.
Anyone seen this problem before or any ideas?

CV Joints will make a clicking sound when they are on the way out.. Usually when turning though...

WGP,
Thanks for the feedback. I haven't eliminated the CV joints from suspicion but the noise is only under braking in a straight line or turning. The is no click or clunk during turning only.
The CV joint boots are still good and they appeared to be tight when I had the disk off.

Hmmm... I don't have any specific Impala experience (my Impala is new ..5kmiles) but did you notice if the caliper guide pins/bolts had any wear or play in them?

I just unbolted the caliper and did not pull the pads out. Nothing looked unusual, it just hard the normal wear on the pads.

Good luck with finding the noise and please let us know what it turns out to be... :)
