Heres my side project from the scratchbuild as a kind of stress reliever. Also, all the sudden hot rods are popping up every where, which I am glad to see.

This '37 will have a reshaped roof, chop top, section, frenched lights and propbably more than I can think of at this time. I might do suicide doors as well.

Heres the pictures of it stock and then I will get to work on it.

I've seen a few of this kit build ans they are awesome

Sounds like a fun build, there. The white plastic body shell looks more inspiring than the box art though, no wonder you don't see many around here.... The mods seem pretty cool. Make it a nice, classic rod. But, I sort of like the shape of the front end without the hood and grill. If I didn't have 150,000 other projects in mind I'd give it a hard think and do something with it....

i think u should do without the hood and 2 side panels! just keep the radiator shell there! or maybe the shell with part on the hood molded to radiator and wiper cowl. something different

This is kind of a side project relaxation build. The big hot rod had stressed me out to the breaking point. This one requires a load of work, but at least its a lot less complicated than the big one.

sorry bout being negative but the mods dont sound wild sound like all the other gimmicks you add to a street rod

Most hot rods usually just have a section, chop top, frenching, suicide doors, and a modified motor. Just wait, it doesnt sound like much, but when I am done with it it wont look much like a '37.

The box art is horrible, and the pictures of the actual model on the side almost turned me away. Then I designed a '37 and I fell in love with it.

The fabulous Wally-World. I only found one, I want more. :crying:

The chop top is about 70% complete. I will be making an in depth tutorial for it.

Pictures probably later tonight, tutorial sometime tomorrow hopefully.

what exactly is frenching? I cant chop the '40 since its a convertible. I am blending the rear fenders into the body though.

its when the headlights or taillights are recessed into the fenders typically cars with fat fenders

UPDATES:

The top has been chopped, and the backlight has been angled at a much shallower angle, and it has been lengthened. The front of the rood was choped a scale 3-1/2" and the rear a scale 3". I just puttied it up for reinforcement as well as smoothing the joints. Later on the B-Pillars will be removed and a longer sleaker door and window will be put in. I will post some sketches for this project later.

awsome man!!! its gonna look really good! How do you chop the clear window parts to fit into the smaller spaces?
yo sup nice car there its gonna look hot when its done, but caddy i'm pretty sure you dont have to do anything with the window pieces i think you just put them in without any cutting involved unless all the windows are connected then you would have to cut each window in individuals and put the glass in that way for like the back window and the back vent windows

Macdaddy4738
05-30-2004, 11:29 PM
well if its chopped then the windows are going to have to be cut because they are matched up for the stock body. Im just wondering how you cut them.

Tommycool666
05-30-2004, 11:29 PM
hey gtmike just a suggestion you might wanna putty up that gas tank cover cuz it dont look right with the chopped top most people cover that up and smoothe the fender so the car has a nice smooths look to it ya know that gas tank kinda takes away from the slek look when u paint it you will see it and it wont give you that smoothe sleek look it will be alll smoothe and then BAM!! theres the gas tank cover . so thats somehting to think about . it would probably help the car out alot more .

mike@af

awsome man!!! its gonna look really good! How do you chop the clear window parts to fit into the smaller spaces?

Thanks. The windows, well the rear will be a custom made, the front will probably be custom as well. Therefore they will be made out of clear styrene.

white97ex
05-31-2004, 12:49 AM
separate it. do a pearl white bottom and the orange pearl on the top. follow the body line. but that is kinda of getting over done these days on 1:1 rods. but no doubt what ever the hot rod master mike comes up with will be a jaw dropper

mike@af
05-31-2004, 08:33 AM
As far as the paint it will be candy magenta pearl on the bottom and a candy silver pearl on the top (in all my years of painting I have never seen it done, so it will be an experiement).

Nice chop bro. I look forward to the tutorial much. I have a '40 Van that I want to chop and I'm al little worried about how it's done. I'm thinking of testing it out on the box art first :)

I will keep an eye on this thread, knowing you build some of the best cars here.

Thanks. I'm going for a really sleak and fast look. Thats where I run into problems. I want to section the body. Then I want to do a reverse vertical section, in other words, lengthen the car by a scale 3"-5".

I need some motivation and inspiration.

Very good work on the chop. That's something I haven't had the balls to try though I want to give it a go on my '32 Ford (What? Willimo has 2 Fords in his project lineup? What??) so I'll be waiting for that tutorial. Well, I figure I know what to do, but it's nice to see something like that in progress first so you know what to expect. Anywhos, this looks good so far, though the shape hasn't really been revealed yet. Your color combo sounds awesome. Are you gonna go with some modern wheels or some old style rod rollers?

Thanks for the comments. I cant wait to see your Fords. I just posted the tutorial but its still being worked on.

As far as the wheels, the Cragar S/S' look pretty damn good on it. I might go with some bigger rollers though.

not hard section off the body line makes it a lot easier in the long run i suggest doing the lengthening after the C job

I have been busy smoothing out the top. Not the most fun thing in the world but its looking good. I have also cut out the B-Pillars since I will be re-shaping the side windows. The rear window will also be reshaped.

I have also been planning the chassis for the big hot rod (see sig for details). I'll be posting pictures of both the plans for the big rod and the pictures of this rod. If you have any comments about the big rod please post them in the correct thread.

IMO looks awesome though brotherman! Paint works sound to be killer! cant wait!

Once I reshape the window and post my sketch you will probably look at it differently then. On my sketch it gives it a real slick style that appears to be moving while standing still.

I hope you start working on that '40 again!

I will probably keep the Cragars, I really like them.

As far as the 1/6 it will have 19R, and 17.25F. Those rims are getting to be a bitch though, we can discuss that in my other thread though. You know, the short one.
