Programming Keyless Remote for 2000 Sable

I saw the post below for years up to 1997, tried the turning the ignition from off ot on 5 times w/ in 10 seconds, but it didn't work? Any help would be much appreciated.

For the Mercury sable it is the on/off position on the key ( not the position where you can take the key out) eight times i believe. the doors should lock then unlock when you do it enough times. then you have 30 seconds to press any key on the remote. again the doors should unlock and lock.
