I am sitting here thimking of what type of contest to have next. This 1 is finally over and i feel was very rushed! This doesnt have to start soon but just get some ideas from you the people.
MY IDEA/SUGGESTION- I would like to have a replica contest. Something like the custom car contest but to replicate your favorite car/truck. Weather it is a car or truck, race car or a 4wd truck. it doesnt matter. Post pictures of the vehicle you would like to replicate and then begin progress. This should be a great idea for everyone. To sweeten the pot i propose a 6 month building time from whenever the contest starts! ialso keep it to 1/24 or 1/25 scale cars only!
Let me know your thought on this and any ideas you the people of AF have!
Thanks, Matt(customminatures)

a longer build time gives the more inexperienced builders time to figure things out!

i think that is a very cool idea, but i think if there was a new contest it should vear away from imports (eg. honda, nissan, toyota ext...). yes your idea whould alow it to vear from import cars, but 90% of all members here on af love imports. and your contest whould end up filled with drift cars, not that it whould be a bad thing but imports are kinda getting dull to look at, everday i come to af hopeing to see somthing new and exiteing, but i am let down, all i am seeing is the same model built.

This is my idea, and what I was planning for the next contest.
I call it the Custom Rod Design Contest [CRDC Pronounced as its spelled as well as Sirdeck (CRDeC)]. This contest is where you design your own hot rod and build it. Basically a custom hot/street rod contest. Such as modifying a '32 Ford into a Boydster, but the design should be your own original design.
Like I said, thats my idea, and Im going to initiate it soon, or we can possibly go into it together Matt.

I would be scared to see the monsters. But how would they be functional. Should the contests be more show than fucntionality?

I think an ultimate sleeper contest would be bitchin.
You know, build a car with basically stock appearance but a huge high performance engine in it. Might be hard for all the curbside builders though.

Dunno if this might interest you guys, but I think it would be really cool to have a contest of older cars, let s say at least 20 years old, that way we ll have a break of all those new an dmodern imports we see all day long here , and we ll see muscle cars, vintage, classic and race cars around here, also rods would qualify.
dunno it s just a suggestion, take it or leave it.

I agree with bigfrit!
:screwy:... Why not making a contest for old kits too? (I've found a 1979 Heller kit of the Citroën Traction 15-6 that would suit both propositions...)
:screwy:... Or just the simple but always efficient idea to make a 1-kit contest: same kit for everybody, free to add changes, from light mods to heavy ones... Base kit should be affordable by everyone, something like the Revell New Mini (very challenging to make it look good!), or the Tamiya 350Z (that would make the AF Custom Model Car...)
:screwy:... Or a contest of free designed racing paint scheme, based on the same kit too, for example a Tamiya Porsche 962C (affordable, easy to find and to build) or a Fujimi racing R32...
:screwy:... Or just a Lamborghini contest? ( ;) Urraco75...)
:screwy:... Or something like a "I make my Tamiya Porsche 911 fly", in a very S-F spirit...
:screwy:... Or a "Lambo-doors" contest: base kit free, just needs to be modified to have a lambo-way-of-opening doors... (may be extended to gullwind and suicide doors). This theme seems to be quite popular on this forum...
:screwy:... Or a "I make my Enzo look decent" contest: who would best re-design this car in order to make it loveable? ( ) Revell and Tamiya accepted - time limit in this case could be up to 1 year...
:screwy:... Or a Lancia Rally racers Contest: we would see kits from Stratos to 037 and various Delta... Maybe could be a "in-action" contest (drivers figures included, diorama...).
:screwy:... Or, for the forthcoming months: a Murcielago vs Carrera GT Contest... Or a full carbonised chassis contest (Carrera & Enzo)... Or...

I m kinda against that one.
Why do we have to be forced to build customs?
dont you see enough of those on the boards?
there seem to be no place for an accurate representation of an actual car albeit stock or custom in this idea...
try to think as broad as you can , everybody has got the right to enter, no matter what kind of level of modeling they re in, and you seem to want to do an elite modelers only comp, which will nonetheless give us maybe a few very special models, but most modelers will only be able to watch and vote...
I think participating is still more important then winning in these matters.

Keep in mind a true to life model contest doesnt necessarely means a box stock build ... many of the modelers here do magic on crappy kits.
Although there can be made very nice cars too if you just build box stock.
it s all about talent and experience, for me a well built box stock model is way better then a huge pile of putty badly sanded build up.

from what i see on this board is alot of (IMO) stock style race street cars! IMO thats not custom< but the board is very world wide and custom in the UK might be very different from custom in the US. That is why iwas suggesting a SEMA type based contest! SEMA is what every car custom car builder would like to see there creation end up!
So all in all oi suppose a general contest would be a way to go! Seeing that every country in the world gives a different spin to the word custom!
Lets keep floating around some more ideas. I think we might be getting close to something! We do need something that will accept everything from regular cars to the ultimate custom! This does need to be very wide ranged to get as many entries as possible! I would like to see this end up being one of the biggest contests AF have ever seen!

:iagree: I think Matt's idea with SEMA is probably the best bet for a turnout. So we can have multiple categories:
Audio
Engine
Import Show
Hot Rod Show
I just dont really want to see a bunch of box stock stuff, or just a load of tuners with one or two Hot Rods. I know AF is primarily imports, but cant we have a little room for us Hot Rodders?

Ok ok ok ok....
I've been thinking about a Race Winner Contest, just to see good kits well weathered, and some driver figures...
But you seem to prefer something more shinny!
... So can I propose you a "Nothing Aerodynamic Contest" where hot rods would be kings, and where european modelers and others could put their <1950 kits... (Heller Buggatti Royale, where are you all?...)... Even japanese modelers could show there their microcars, for example!... That would mean no Skyline, no sportcars, no drifting... Something really different for once!

Labandabonnot has some good ideas. The one-kit contest one is probably the best.
Ya'll have to realize, however, that besides AFMOTY you're probably going to have a low turn out. A contest that takes such specific entries is going to be, by the nature of the thing, closed to many modellers. I imagine most builders entering a contest enter with a model they were going to build anyway, that few people actually go out of their way to build a model specifically for the contest.

I agree with willimo that the only way you are going to have a large turn out is without limiting the contest types of cars and things like that. There are too diffrent types of people with diffrent taste in cars. The reason why AFMOTY is so popular is because it is just a "model" contest with no limits on types of builds.
There have been several contests in the past that started out well but ended up sizzling out in the end. I personally like the Supercar contest, or even a Truck contest or a Bike contest. Something like that won't conflict with AFMOTY, but your entries won't be everyone just the ones who like that particular build.
You should think of a few good "themes" for contests like SEMA, Trucks, bikes, custom hotrods, super cars, muscle cars, or any of the ones mentioned in this thread. Then make a poll and leave it up for a good bit to let everyone vote for the most popular one, my vote goes for the Truck contest.
But for the time being i think we are overlooking willimo's Poser contest. I'm very excited about this contest b/c i've got a ugly P.O.S. waiting for this one.

I suggested that idea b/c there have been a few more trucks around here, and i like that. I think there would be a good turn out b/c there are more truck fans than you would think. Plus it can be any truck, how ever you want to build it; custom, hotrod, 4x4, bodydroped, or whatever you can think up (like the blazerado). It leaves the field open while making a unique contest.

IMO there are to many contest's and people just start to loose interest after a while.
If you do go ahead i'd like to see everybody build the same kit but come up with there own different style of building it

With so many contest going there will be no interest after a little while. All building the same kit and check out the different styles would really do it IMO. And as customminiatures said: Take some time for it, I can't build a custom car within 1 or 2 months.
I say, we all choose 1 car (Will by quiet, I'm hearing a poll coming  ) and take 4 months for building it.

Why not go for a run of the mill road car like a ford focus or the like, that way there are not to many 1:1 modded ones about so will lead to some origional thinking not copying movie or real life cars.

I think that's quiet a relative thing. There are quiet a few tuners from Ford. It doesn't matter which car you take. There's always a change of copying something. But I agree it's a nice idea to take a Ford Focus. I've never seen a tuned Ford Focus on AF. So for that, I agree with you.

Bill, i dont care if you post in everyone elses thread but stay out of mine!!! All you have to say is negative things about the people of af! If they like cars and not truck, so be it! You like trucks and not a whole lot of cars! So basically what you are saying is people should do exactly what you want and not have there own taste in vehicles! This is a "CAR" based forum, havent you figured that out? yet? People im sure are tired of hearing you say how imports suck and trucks are the shit! I know i am! If you cant accept that people here are into a different style of vehicle than you, then leave af! PLEASE!

It's supposed to be all about model building, how much effort you put forth and the skill that shows through in the finished product. I don't know anything about Le mans, F1 racing, or rally cars, but i love to see how much effort our members who build these types of cars put in to them. The same applies to mini trucks and imports, If someone builds an exact replica of a car i hate then i will appreciate the build more than the subject. You do need to lay off the smart ass comments and negative replies, It seems that you are becoming known for things like that.
