Things that should be in the next GT...

Grendel

Well, I'm bored, so I was thinking of things they should add in the next Gran Turismo...

Hmm... lets see...

More Cars - Why did they drop all the old muscle cars they had in GT2? Those were awesome... they could also stop throwing in so many copies of the same car (look at how many skylines are in gt3 :P) They should also add Pontiac as a car maker... I would much rather buy a WS6 Trans Am than a Z28 or SS Camaro :D I also wanna see some old school cars... like 240 Z's, old Chevy and Ford hot rod types, etc

Engine & Body Damage - Other than leaving this out, GT is pretty realistic... they might as well go all the way and add it in... if you hit a wall going 150 mph... then just throw it into first and drive off, thats a little unrealistic eh? Make it so you can blow your engine by over-revving it... especially on the downshifts, in real life, can you really throw it into second from fifth gear and still have your engine run perfectly? :P

Engine Swaps - This would go perfectly with adding in the old cars... wanna throw a V-8 into your Z car? How about a TT Supra or Skyline motor? This is how it should be... totally customizeable

Superchargers - Why can we only add turbos to the cars in GT? If I wanna throw a blower on an old camaro... lemme do it :P

Drag Races - Racing around a track is pretty boring after a while... now if I could keep customizing my car to go faster in the 1/4... well, that might not get so boring...

Alright... forgive me, im extremely bored...

What else should they add in?

I know how you feel
unfortunately sony japan makes this game. they dont know much about muscle cars because its not big at all.
They gave muscle cars a try in GT2 but it was not a hit at all. a lot of people dont even know what a muscle car is over there because they were influenced differently compared to americans.
as for the damage. im pretty sure the car manufacturers dont want to see their licensed cars being damaged. other than that, a good idea. i would like to see them like blow the engine or the bumper almost being torn off while flying sparks everywhere while being scraped on the ground.
as for the supercharger. they are not popular in japan because they are picky about power. to them supercharger and nos are lame, they go for the best thing they can find.
like many people buy wheels which are over a grand for just one, and most cant afford them all so they go on loan at the wheel shops.
as for the engine swap. that is a good idea. :D

I agree with everything you said. Except that I think that the body damage should be an option. Cause I don't know how long my cars would last. I like to ram other cars and make them spin out.

You have a really good idea with the engine swaps. I mean if you have the mean you can pretty much do anything you want to a car. So why not??

- More realistic braking (no perfect stops just by jamming the anchors) meaning we will need to learn to use the threshold braking technique.

- As said before, more cars. Once you're done with the game, the only replay value comes from the multitude of cars that you wouldn't normally buy to beat the game, but are still fun to drive (i.e. HKS 180SX from GT2).

- More aftermarket firms. Where's Trust, dammit? There were a handful in GT2, but most of the race prepped vehicles in GT3 have "Gran Turismo" graphics plastered all over them. Sort of lame, don't you think?

- Bring back "racing modification", except make it more customizable (some of the paint schemes in GT2 were a little ridiculous).

- New sound effects; i.e. change the blow-off valve sound (the one in Sega GT was nice, sort of sounded like the HKS SSQ).

- Snow/ice and night-time for rally racing. While on the subject of night, make the car's headlight beams actually visible on the road ahead.

- Add the drag racing sideshow that was originally supposed to be in GT2.

- Drifting competition?

- Make automatic transmission weaker than manual (I hate racing this guy I know with identical cars, and since he always uses auto, he gets way more consistent shifts--real automatic cars are slower and don't downshift as swiftly as the auto trannies in Gran Turismo do).

I'll add more later, when I think of some new ideas.

- Something EVERYONE seems to agree on: smarter computer A.I. No more computer cars playing follow the leader all the way to the end.

- Computer opponents during 2-player mode.

- The car body damage is not just a "what-if", but I feel that it's an absolute necessity--in order for the DAMNED computer cars from riding you through the turns. Yes, you can do the same to them, but there are FIVE of them and only ONE of you, and since they move like a train, they can easily pummel you from first, all the way back to sixth place, going through one turn.

- More computer cars in general. Just having six cars on the track keeps it nice and simple, but sometimes it would be nice to have 20 or so cars like in a real endurance race (i.e. Le Mans GT, GT-S, LMP classes all running simultaneously).

- Some CGI/FMV between races for modifications and installations?

- Better music for the U.S. (as always).

- Selectable different sizes for wheels.

- Add paint jobs to the GT Auto. Doesn't even need to be all that fancy, just allow the user to change to a different factory color when you get sick of it. I have quite a few Silvias in GT2 just because I wanted different colors.

- Dashboard view, so you can see the distinct interiors of each car (may be a bit of a tall order for the programmers, but hey, the NFS series has it; it would just take a lot of time and/or man-power to pull this one off).

- ELIMINATE

- THE

- DAMNED,

- GOD-FORSAKEN,

- RANDOM

- PRIZE CARS

my little brother told me you can pick the cars you want in random with the analog pad. if you want the car to the right. then you hold the analog stick to the right.
but the problem is that you dont know what car is what because its black

No, that was only a rumor. Several major gaming publications have denied the existence of this trick. I've tested it out myself (sat there restarting a save right before the end of a series, trying again and again, at least 40 or 50 times), and its only coincidence if it works. It's only 1 out of 4 so there's a pretty high chance that the direction you are pressing will coincide with the car you receive. Some have also said that the square/triangle/x/circle buttons do the same, but that's also untrue.

I tell you, some of the internet game cheat sites should test the submitted tricks and codes before announcing them to the public.

my mistake. my lil brother did tell me the analog thing doesnt work. however he did tell me that their is a way to choose the cars. lets say when the car gets selected on the right car, you have to press the O button exactly when it gets highlighted. im not really sure if the japanese GT3 and the american GT3 is different though

PART
02-04-2002, 11:29 PM
yeah hitting the O button when the car is selected does work, i know cause it worked really well for me before my house got broken into and somebody stole my PSX2 and all my games(and my freakin memory cards with all my hard earned cars on it) oh well ill prolly just wait till the next gt comes out before replacing everything. later........

are you serious??
thats too bad. sorry to hear that.
you should just stick with GT3. i have the GT concept, its cheap but not worth it. GT3 is more better. the concept is....basically a real concept, its not much of a real game at all.
yah.... sorry to hear about that. i still cant believe it. dumb ass people robbing people. geez. hope they pay for what they have done

Nope that one doesn't work either. That's actually the first method that I heard of and tried. It's funny because it seemed to work about 4 times in a row, then it just stopped working... Damn game trying to tease us poor saps!

they NEED, NEED, NEED to turn off the auto replay..
i can't take it, in fact it's the reason i put the controller down on this game.. let me choose... i don't wanna see them all, i get sick of watching me school everyone.. just let me watch the good drifting ones..

Wow... all you guys pretty much stole everything i was going to say... EXCEPT... GT4 need to be online... like NEEDS TO BE ONLINE.... if it isn't it would be a major dissapointment for sony and polyphony digital. The best game that the ps2 has online right now is SOCOM (which is damn good), but if sony got Gran Turismo to go online then millions of people who own any of the gran turismos would be wanting to buy this. Imagine racing people head-2-head in realtime, or have like course records that are worldwide. Plus (if sony came out with the harddrive that supports GT) more cars could be downloadable and instatnly the GT car database could shoot up to around 750-1000 cars no joke. If you think about it, (all in speculation) GT4 (the next Gran Turismo) should be 4 discs, arcade, simulation, car, and tuner. Yes a full dvd just for cars (about 500-750) and a full dvd for tuning (license parts from 100's of companies... not just generic turbo... but turbo from HKS or TRUST or GREDDY or who ever you want to get). Now that, combined with internet support would be the ultimate Gran Turismo ever!... i'm just waiting for it to come out:D

I'm gonna have to disagree with some of what you said. 4 DVD's is wayyy to many. It would piss me off so much if I had to put in a new cd just to buy a car, then another new cd just to tune it, then ANOTHER new cd just to try it out on a track. I'm very happy with the 2 cd's the GT 2 has. I will admit that having it all on one cd like in GT3 is very convinent, the arcade mode takes up extra space that could be used for more tracks/cars/tuning options/technical settings.

I have read that GT4 will probably (99% chance) be online, but they might only take broadband users, sorry 56k. It would be cool if they had different leagues, and world records (good idea on the world records zyajzarc!) for each of league.

They are saying that the game will be out in late 2003 in Japan. I figure that will get pushed back to early 2004 for them, and we might see it here in mid-2004, but that's just my guess. I can't wait for it to get here.:)

EDIT: They also said that they would like to include more old, classic cars with authentic sounds and handling.

So how many of you guys even still play GT3? My friend and I have been trying to unlock it 100 % lately... It's kinda hard.

You bet i'm still playing GT3.. i'm about 90+ percent completed.... just last week i finished all the arcade mode races... man.. what a chore... and there's no prize for the races.... just a gold... but it's all for the elusive 100 right?

Anywho, moving on, YellowMaranello i would probably have to agree with you about the 4 discs... it's a tad bit over the top. Maybe 2 discs would be better :D . I just said 4 discs because GT3 was toned down from GT2 because of the space alloted for arcade, cars, tracks, tuning, etc... They (polyphony digital and sony) knew how much space they were working with, and their time pressure to get the game out, but in reality if they waited 3 months longer (i know i coudn't have waited 3 months more hehe... ) a second disc would have probably been added (just like GT2) and more cars would have been added as well. It's been stated by programmers and graphic designers @ polyphony digital that it take on average 1 week to make a complete car (which is between 5000 = 10000 polygons depending on the shape of the car... if i'm not mistaken) Lets say polyD has 5 car designers... in about 1 month (4 weeks) they could crank out (1 car / week x 4 weeks x 5 designers) = 20 more cars. Those twenty could have been DTM, JGTC, hot rods, classics.. .anything.. but that's going back to the past.. and i prefer not to dwell on that...

Finally if the GT4 was to be the ultimate game... they would make it an arcade machine... and i would buy that... definitely!

On a final point... or non-point, how did you get your name Grendel.. .what's your inspiration for the name... did you read Beowulf?

Although I don't play GT3 except once in a blue moon now, I will still buy GT4 b/c it's just a game that you have to own no matter how often you play it. Here's what I would like to see:
Ferrari F355,360,F40,F50 and a must IMO the Enzo.
Lamborghini Diablo, Murcielago, and Gallardo
Both superchargers and Turbo charger
Definately no auto-replay
A more variety of tracks, not the same track with a differnt layout.
Well this a few things I think should be added.

Vt Fusion

more manufacturers... Lamborghini (hopefully at least 10 cars) Ferrari (10-20 cars) Mclaren (all F1 models!!!) Bugatti (why not..)

More tracks - reality based tracks, and some really unrealistic ones!!! mountain road tracks, like in the NFS series. Drag racing 1/4mile.. 2 player a must in this!

More car midifications - Visual body work also.. blowoff valves, NOS etc... maybe some of these should be not allowed in certain races, for obvious reasons... but in open races!! would be cool to have a race and ignite the NOS to win the race, but obviously not for most 'official' races, because thats not real life.

Car damage.. PLEASE! and physics in the damage, like NFS:PU at the moment you can complete corses like the high speed ring alot faster by riding the walls on the corners, thats stupid stuff.

Fuel refil - would be annoying, but kind of needed.. also custom fuel tanks... fit a smaller one to get a lighter car but run out of fuel faster obviously... a setup for shorter races... 3-15laps

More older concept cars - GT- 90, and if lambo are in the Cala...

More ability with modifications - Adding turbo to almost any car, but not allowing these 'crossover' cars in many races.... so you will need the money to buy one for NA and one for Turbo.

And yes.. if this all happens you will need the garage to allow many more cars.. 500? just many people would want modded and non modded versions of their fav cars.. even though you can disable the mods, body kits are different.

Yea, my senior year in high school, our english teacher had us read the "condensed" version of Beowulf... I thought it was a cool story :)

Any of you played the Sega GT game for Xbox yet? I tried it out a couple days ago and it feels like you arent even driving the cars...

The next Gran Turismo should at least have every car from all the GT series games and Sega GT games...that would be a pretty complete list of cars...

Same here man... i read it last semester... i'm a sophomore in high school right now...so yea..

Anywho.. to your other quote... my cousin has a XBOX that came with Sega GT2002 and the handling characteristics are very different from GT3. They techniques used are of couse the same, but the cars feel a lil heavy and slugish, but tire "grip" and engine performance is accuratly represented..... unlike in GT3 where engine performance seems a lil on the easy side (1000 hp cars should preform better than they do... R43's can do a quarter in like 8-9 w/ 1100+ hp.... that just my guess.. i don't really know if this is tru.. just sounds like it). One thing that i prefer more on Sega GT2002 is the graphics. The cars have between 15k and 20k polygons.. while GT3 is running @ 5-10k polygons (yet it was the best @ it time). Also the backgrounds [to many people this won't matter] are almost 3 times the quality of GT3 with around 500k polygons.... that's a whole lotta polys man... a WHOLE lotta polys....

BRING BACK THE BIRD VIEW!!!!

this is the single most annoying thing I hate about the game, that has not already been mentioned. well.. this and not being able to buy used cars anymore.

I hate having to either drive the in car view, or the close up rear.... which blocks the whole track from view. I prefer the far away shot, so I can see everything.

i sure hope gt4 will put used cars back in. i dont know bout anyone else. but i think the faster cars (not fastest car) was from the used line up in gt1 and gt2. i want to buy a 12,000 credit car and tune it to 500 or more hp. id like to see drag racing and more then 2 cars in the rally section. and i hated the idea of have the tires wear out in some of the races. i say either all the time my tires can wear out or not at all. adding a dyno would be a good idea and i do wanna see more fwd cars. and im constintly seeing fwd cars in even japan have well over 600 hp but never in the games that they produce. i sure hoe they add ponitac. but all in all ill buy it weither or not they do what i want. if i dont like it ill sell it.

if they have online support...
i'd like to be able to sell cars that i dont want anymore. also, they resale price should be more realistic. u buy a $1,000,000 car, never drive it and want to sell it and its value becomes $500,000 WTF is that?????????? the prices should also change according to mileage (decrease value) and things u added on like turbos (increase value). Tuning is definately a must. there's an import tuning revolution going on now that started with the fast and the furious and Sony cant deny that. i really want to be able to choose different wings, rims, rim sizes, paint jobs, decals, and i'll even go as far as headlights and tail lights. there should also be a variety of body kits. they gotta bring back used cars too. i really dont want to start off with a 80 bhp lupo (or whatever that POS was) again. i reminisce (SP?) the old '92 Supra Twin Turbo that i started out with in GT2. oo and one more... I WANT TO DRIVE A GODDAMN HONDA PRELUDE!!!!!!!

i totally agree... if you want body kits, eurotails and projectors, decals and aluminum whaletails, get a copy of NFS:U. the gran turismo series is for people who care about realism and performance.

i'd like so see different size rims and tires, varied brands of such, etc. i wanna see 30+ inch drag slicks and REAL fully customizable suspension (rear end size, k-member, # of lugs, etc. i wanna see cars doing wheelstands and dragging their rear bumpers. i wanna see spools. i wanna see 6000+ HP dragsters. how about direct drive, shifters, shift kits, valve bodies, etc. lexan windows. more variety in clutches and differentials. and most importantly of all, FOX-BODIED MUSTANGS!!!! or even, more than 1 stang, like in GT3. nobody realizes the potential of good old foxbodies. they can be made to own most anything else in both drag racing, autox, and roadcourse.

if i could drive an 86 notchback stang in gt4, i could die a happy man =)... of course, nothing compares to driving one in real life!
