Overhyped, and Basterdised!

Why is the Skyline, which USE to be one of my favorite cars so basterdised? Its overhyped, and people talk about it like its the ONLY good Japanese car in this dumb country! The Skyline isnt the fastest Japanese car to 60. The Evo is faster to 60. The Skyline isnt the best on the freeway. The Supra is. What the Skyline IS good in is road racing. Its good on tracks with long straights, and non-tight curves. But if it was in a very curvy track with lots of tight curves, and not too much straights, the Evo will crush it. If it was on the freeway, the supra will KILL it. If I was to put 10K into the engine of a Skyline, and 10K into the engine of a Supra, the Supra would have more HP. If you look at speed test, or circut racers in Japan, or people trying to break records for high speed on the freeway, the use Supras, in Japan. They know what Skylines are good, and not good in. But this country, people ONLY give Skylines credit. The funny thing is, half those people sweating the Skyline, dont know shit about it. I am sooooo sick of the 2 Fast 2 Furious crowd basterdising that car! I hope I didnt offend anyone, who dont wanna hear the truth. Later people!

The skyline is not the come all be all of cars. actually with my few years of driving experience I have come to realize that no matter how much you fall in love with one car, it's impossible for it to be the best at everything. I love corvettes and skylines. But I respect supras a lot (since I moved to japan). Personally I think a 2jz is a better motor than an RB26DETT. I've been in my friends supra with a 2JZ and a huge turbo (dyno 950HP at autoshop "turbo" in okinawa, I was there). That car is fucking fast. I've been in some of the fastest GTR's in japan and I honestly like the supra better. But I felt like I was going to die. So if it's for looks or handling or the engine, outright power, drag times, some aura, a movie or whatever makes you like a car.... It's your opinion. I just think it's funny how some (most) of the people in these forums have never driven a skyline let alone owned one (or three or four like me :-P ) Personally I like the skyline because it's a good all around car. affordable (in japan), light, RWD, good weight distr. handling. The geometry of the car is very good. You just point it and it goes. In the words of Tiff Needle from top gear "You don't so much DRIVE the nissan skyline but, cling on for dear life!" and something to the effect of "Skyline was designed to take on the Sega Ralley machine."

It's definitly just a car though. actually as most of you forum members in your teenage years will soon learn... All cars are JUST CARS.

Yea, the Skyline is a very good car. Its powerful, fast, great handling, and its easily modded. I'm just pissed that this car is getting basterdised by teenage boys (i'm a teen) that dont know shit about it. The only reason they like it is because it wasnt realised here. Nobody wants to know that Supras have more powerful engines, and are even easier modded than Skylines, which pisses me off.

I really don't know much about the cars, but I do know that a GTR will kill a most cars with mild mods.

All I am saying is that other Japanese cars are neglected, and left out. Why? I doo prefer the Skyline over the Supra if I where a road racer, because its handling is better. If I was to race on the freeway, I would have to go with the Supra. And if I where drifting I woud have to go with the RX-7. But if I was to tell some people that the Skyline isnt perfect in EVERY aspect,that the car DOES have flaus, and that its NOT God'd gift to man then they get mad at me. Oh, and one thing I frogot! Why where there NO good cars in NFS: Underground exept the Skyline, RX7, and the non-turbo Supra (which isnt even CLOSE to the JZA Supra). Another sign of the 2Fag crowd. Oh well, I will continue to try to teach people that there are other good cars out there. Teens these days think Civics (economy cars) are great drag cars. How dumb. Yes, the GTR is not the car to end all cars, but its damn close. There are better cars than the GTR, but you would be hard pressed to find a car in its price range(True Price Range) that can out perform it in a all around competition.

I have owned a Supra as well, I loved that car, but it looks ugly to me. They are very hard to get the power to the ground. Like you mentioned they are good for freeway racing, but anyone that does that for racing is an idiot. Plus that is not racing, although my dumbass has done it when I was younger. I can learn from my mistakes.

American V8s will always beat the GTR in the 1/4, but then again the GTR can out perform them in other aspects.

I will tell you this, you think you know GTRs, but you don't. The F&TF crowd are nothing but young adults that don't have a clue of what makes a car tic. It is very irritaing to me as well to listen or read this crap. I would never go to the Supra/RX-7/Civic forums and start shit there just because their cars are different than mine. They like what they like, I like what I like. There are a lot of guys on those forums that have a lot of knowledge, why the hell would talk shit to them. I am glad they know their shit, it makes for good competeition.

wangan freeway is a nice place to go to, all the big powers come together and eat up each other.

I would love to get a chance to go to Japan, for many reasons. Drifting, Tokyo Auto Show, and the freeway racing. Those cars hit in the 200MPH zone EASY, unlike here, where its a big deal for a Civic to do 13 sec 1/4 mile. Those cars are crazy in Japan. One day I WILL go there. If ya want to see some of that buy the DVD called Beasts From The East.

Ahhh, I was wondering for a while if it was something you had written, but Im sure had you spent that amount of time in Aussie you would have mentioned it before.
One thing you can take from that is just how awsome the RS500 Seirras were, had they had the active AWD systems the skylines did it would have been a much more interesting season. Its a shame the GTR didnt qualify for any of the European Touring car classes, it would have been interesting to see how they stacked up against other AWD touring cars like the Audi's.

And it seems that there was much, much more to the radical change in rules in Aussie than the success of the GTR's, the previous domination of the Sierras, and rising costs were clearly larger factors, the GTR's were simply the icing on the cake that puched the Domestic manufactors (Ford and Holden) into pressuring CAMS into the new rule set up, based around domestic models.
A similar radical change is unforunatly now needed, as the existing rules have finaly been left behind technologicaly by the Manufactors who first created them. Both now have AWD V8 models on the maket, and both now use engines and suspension set ups in the road cars that are not legal in the race cars.

Wrong it isn't. Even the EVO8 is slower. I was in a bog standard R34 Vspec II which did it in 4.9 seconds. My R32 GTR with exahust and pod filters did it 4.7 seconds. The Evo is 5.3 thank you very much. In Australia they tested a NUR spec R34 GTR which did it in 4.5 seconds bog standard. Oh wait you knew that didn't you professor.

Really! Seems to me when tested on a high speed ring in Japan the R33 GTR out performed the Supra in both acceleration and a complete circut of the track. The R33 being slower than the R32 and R34 in overall tests.
As tested time and time again since the R32 the GTR out did the Supra, Evo, NSX, RX7, and WRX on a proper race track. Just so you know when pushed comes to shove the Evo will understeer like a pig on the really tight stuff as it is full time 4wd. I can't remember how many EVO's there are in the JGTC. Please remind me again as I can't think of ONE! Again you knew that though didn't you. I mean you must have graduated top in your class for the mentally "challanged".

While the Skyline GTR ISN'T the end all be all car as there are plenty others out there that will eat it for lunch, those car's aren't produced in Japan. At least not yet. Hell I'd love a Porsche GT2 or GT3, or Zonda to mention a few but at a cost that is more than even an ABOVE average estate I'll pass.

Kinda hard to compare it other than "by the numbers game" simular to the Evo8. Subaru claims 300hp. We've ran a 2004 WRX on a local dyno and it made only 286hp at the flywheel. It is roughly the same in out right acceleration as the Evo8 until you build some engine heat then the top mounted interheater lets it down.

As far as the Meclaren F1, there is no contest. Not in looks, or outright performance. The Meclaren F1 like the Zonda is a proper "Supercar" not a sports car. It also costs well over $1 million NZD as compared to just over $100k for an R34 Vspec II.

I do give others credit where credit is due. So you've seen skylines huh. You live in bloody Maryland. I serisouly doubt you've seen one in person. I've seen more Evo's, Supra's than I care to. They are all over like horseshit here. You would have seen it in some video with unequalled cars.

On what would be considered a "gokart" track the Evo would be slightly quicker due soley to its shorter wheel base but that and dirt is the only place.
I would say the same thing no matter what I owned. Facts are facts and are undisputable. Speculation however is just that.

As a good example as much as I dislike the RX7 it is also a better drag car than ANY GTR. Power to weight is a killer and you can only take out so much weight from a 4wd car where as a 2wd car can be lighten much greater everytime. There are RX7's in the 6's where as the quickest GTR in the world is the HKS R33 GTR and it has done high 7's, yet produces a lot more power.

A major problem with the supra 2JZ-GTE motor is it doesn't like to rev. Even with top spec'ed aftermarket bits it still doesn't rev like the RB26 will. With the quest for big power comes big turbos which need tremendous revs to spool them and make power. However in saying that the 2JZ-GTE motor is a hell of a lot stronger factory standard than the RB26 is. That is a given and anyone who knows anything about the two engines can not deny that. The motor however doesn't make the car.

BTW the EVO is nearly the same weight as the GTR and has a shorter and narrower wheelbase. One the bigger or proper race tracks with high speed corners and hair pins it also means the EVO will be slightly quicker around the hair pins, slightly being the key word, but on the faster sections the GTR will stretch it's legs and leave it for dead. That is another point you forgot to mention is gear ratios. Give the EVO some decent gear ratios to match the GTR in the straights and it would be slower again. That is the only thing that gives the EVO a chance. Same with the WRX. They are not geared to run big speeds like the Supra and Skyline have. EVO's and WRX's are geared to about 135mph max if they are lucky. The Supra, 300zx, Skyline and RX7 will run over 165 mph easily. Speaking of weight the Supra and 300ZX are nearly the same to the GTR. Now given they are 2wd vs 4wd their overall handling suffer with only RWD. Make the road surface wet and the game changes dramaticlly.

We don't live in a perfect world at all. There is NO perfect car though some of them are as close to that as you're going to get. Unfortunetly none of the Japanese cars come close to that as you have to only look at the Porsche GT3 to come close in overall balance. Out of the box there isn't a Japanese car that comes close.

Just let him be he's only diggin his hole deeper. The only way I agree with the nsx is maybe you mistakenly saw a nsx type-r full factory mods (my uncle get a new 1 every so often hehehe) and thought it was stock and it was vs'ing a 1999 regular r34 gtr.

The gear ratios are so close it isn't funny. As a matter of fact both the last gen MKIV supra's and the R34 GTR have 6speed boxes geared to approximately 190mph or 310kph. Unfortuneatly neither will hit that standard. Both will hit the wall at around 180mph.

So you've seen Skylines in California. I guess that makes you a complete expert on them. Hell maybe I should sell mine and take lessons from you as I wouldn't know a thing about them would I. I mean I've owned 3. Been around them over going on 6 years, helped start a car club on them "skylines downunder", spoken to Mr. Nagata (Smokey Nagata as he effectionatly known), etc. Oh wait I guess that means I don't know a thing about the Evo or Supra, and neither would the local tuner whos shop I nearly live at does either.

A golden rule of thumb when you are new to a forums is don't TRY and appear smart but work your way in and learn a bit. Odds are there will be someone who just may know a little more than you think they do.

Also for your information. Bog standard Evo 7 "13.8 1/4 time", Bog standard Evo8 "13.5 1/4mile time". Gee I guess that is quicker than 13.1 isn't it. Oh wait the Evo out accelerates it yea yea that's it. :nutkick:

lilslim seeing skylines at a d1gp aint shit. and i have alot of vids with nsx gtr evo racing each other among other cars, and never have i seen the nsx take out hte gtr. then again those are just mere vids and forgot what you called those type of tracks, razor.

These are info that I gathered from owners of tunner shops, like importfan.com and RPMmotoring.com. Also this is info I got from web sites like fantasycars.com, fast-autos.net, and supercars.net. These are NOT my opinions! I rather go by these than by some guy ya met on the net (like everyone here) Everythning I say here is about stock!

1. Evos have better 0-60 times than Skylines
2. Supras are faster on a long freeway, when the race starts at a certain speed, and when the second turbo kicks in.
3. NSX's have better track times SOMETIMES (they always race these cars, and sometimes different cars win. It depends on whose driving I guess)
4. Supras are easier to mod.

These are fasts that I got from other people, and websites. But since RazorGTR says its not true, I guess it isnt. Oh, and just because Razor says it, how does everybody else know hes right and I'm wrong? He COULD BE WRONG ABOUT SOME THINGS, just as I can be wrong about others.
And, my original post just said that I think Skylines are bastardised in this country. Thats it. I wanted opinions on it, not arrguments. Now everybody can go back to pleasuring RazorGTR!

The whole supra being faster on the long is totally not true most of us here have seen the r33 gtr vs a supra rz on a short track and it got its ass wooped. You are right though that supras are easier to mod in comparison to the r34 models. Were not kiss Assing Razor were agreeing with him since he owns a GTR. You can't argue with some1 who owns the car and knows its limits...

GTR2B no worries. I take EVERYONE at face value give them ample opertunity unless like this particular individual decides to come out with both guns blazing right off the bat.

I know plenty of EVO's, Series I, II, III's, a couple of IV's and on 6.5 that would eat even a fairly built GTR for lunch without breaking a sweat and come back for more.

However you or anyone looks at it, and I've said this I don't know how many times. Any factory Skylines (GTR's included) ARE NOT THE BE ALL END ALL, BEST OF THE BEST!.

Yes I love them, just as someone who is into any other make/model love's that particular brand. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses.
