My 94 SL2 has problems shifting up. It revs to about 4000 rpms and doesn't want to shift up unless i let up on the gas for a second. It also heats up quick. Its running a little sluggish, so could someone please help me?? Please? Thanks in advance.

Late model Saturn automatics are bad for tranny problems the problem your having is caused by lower valve bodies. You can replace them for about $200, but you can only by themfrom the dealership. If your car is overheating and your fans come on when your AC is on but not automatically while the AC is off then it's this little sensor on your head right above the tranny. its the water temp sending unit. Its a red and black wire with a bolt through it. cant miss it $17.00 part at the dealership. Go to your dealership's car care center and talk with a mechanic and he'll help you determine exactlywhere and what is wrong. But if you do Mechanic work like me it's easy to fix and saves you from buying a $1500.00 dollar part.

Your problem is probably not caused by the lower valve body like that other guy said. First off, saturn has problems with the upper valve body, not the lower. Second, if you want your car fixed, you should take it somewhere that knows what theyre doing, like Saturn. Otherwise you are going to end up throwing parts at it, which will cost you more in the long run. You need to have a line pressure test done before anything, you could have an internal leak, a bad pump, or a bad pressure releif valve(which is located in the upper valve body), a bad line pressure solenoid or various other problems.

You may want to avoid Saturn and seek a third party transmission mechanic. They have experience with Saturn trannies, as they often have the same set of problems. It seems like trannies are just a typical problem for saturns and the dealerships often charge a lot more than other transmission specialists! Good luck.

MJKorn2000, thanks for the tip. I am having exactly that problem with the fan running when the AC is on. I avoid the local dealer now as they pulled a few fast ones on me and there isnt another dealer around where I live
