I have a 2000 windstar that I am putting a hitch on. I need to find out the location of the tail light harnes plug so I can plug in the wiring for the trailer lights?

If you're lucky and your van came with a factory wired trailer light harness like my '99 did, it should be capped off under the van about two feet from the rear bumper toward the passenger side. You'll need to find a plug to fit the one underneath and make up an interface cord for the trailer plug. I got mine at OK Auto and it worked just fine. If you're not so lucky, you'll need to purchase a wiring harness and tap into existing tail-brake-turn siganl wiring on the van. I have one of these and I'd be glad to sell it to you if you need it. I bought it before I found out I had the wiring in place. Let me know, I'm willing to negotiate if you need it. It's by Hoppy. If you need that plug I can look it up and give you the number I think. Ford does have one made up but you may not like the price. :naughty:

The plug/receptacle is just that, a plug/receptacle (I think with pigtail leads) which you would either splice onto a trailer 4 wire flat connector or purchase terminal ends and remove pigtail leads from plug/receptacle and make a neater looking harness by attaching terminals to trailer flat pigtails and reinserting into plug/receptacle. The plug/receptacle number is STI-677 and the little terminals are STI-C051. The plug and terminals cost $16.88 including tax. I think Ford wanted somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 for the ready made harness. This will work only if you have the trailer wiring under the van to start with. I don't know if they all came pre wired or if mine was ordered (I bought used) with a tow package. The plug and terminals are by Standard Motor Products. The above numbers may be OK Autos numbers. Hope this helps.
