ok, so hears the problem, i drove my car around this mornign for a little while, while stopped or at low speeds, i heard noise, kinda like a clicking, like something going round and around, and my friend with a 3000gt told me with dampness and rain, they make that sound. then i parked in a parking garage, and its been dry the rest of the day, and while driving home, i heard it again. then, as i got to my drive way, i noticed the engine coolant level warning light was on....now this wasnt on just 7 hours ago, and then i stopped, and looked it up in the book, and by the time i found it, the light was out???

Check the level regardless if the light went out, it came on for a reason. Also, I don't get a clinking noise when my car/weather is wet, so that is probably related to the low coolant light. If it persists after the coolant is checked/refilled, let us know.

I dont know if SL's and VR-4's are the same as Base's but there it a light that flashs on and off right above the SRS light. I wanted to know what that was...is it the engine coolant level warning light? Or something other? I also here a little ticking/clicking sound. Anyone know what that light is and if you know how to fix it...i dont have the book so i have clue what it is.Thanks!

yea, well idk, i have a VR-4, and the light is a little orange block, with 3 lines in it, in the bottom right had of the speedo. i ahve 109XXX miles, and the previous owner did them last at 56k, so i figure its time for a belt change anyway, do you think that could have something to do with the noise?

ok, well i just talked to my bro, and he suggested to put some distilled water into the collant bottle, and to check to make sure taht there was water in the radiator....also, could that clicking sound be a CD joint?? the noise is at all stopped, and slow speeds, not just when im turning???

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=218305 has a post I did previously telling what each warning light was for.
above the SRS is the washer fluid light. Remember you have 2 tanks, one in your engine bay, and one in your trunk.

As far as distilled water in the radiator, you should have a 50/50 mix of water and coolant in there. So don't just put in water, its ok for emergencies, but 50/50 is needed for continued driving.
Also, I assume you mean CV joint, it could be that, is it coming from down near the wheels? Does it speed up as you speed up? If you grab your wheel, can you shake it at all, is there extra play? So the noise contineus even when you are stopped?

Belts typically make a whining noise not clicking. Is it coming from the engine or from the wheels?

There are alot of things that tick...could it be your lifters? They are imfamous for ticking in our cars.
This is from 3sxperformance:
"TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK... Does your car have the infamous lifter tick? You can upgrade to the later "3rd Generation" lash adjusters which offer a HUGE improvement in oil circulation in the heads, thus virtually eliminating the ticking sound that incessantly emanates from the top of your motor. no, that ticking sound stops as i speed up, its only at stopped and low speeds.

Are you sure it stops, or just becomes inaudible and droned out by roadnoise?

Oh yea...i remember the guy telling me when i bought it that the lifters were ticking. How hard are they to replace with the 3rd Gen? Do i need to do any other replacing of parts to make them fit?

could be, but ive had my window down listing, and i dont hear it, ill take it to a dealer tomorrow, and will have them flush a few systems, such as the radiator, brakes, airconditioning (b/c that isnt cold at all)...and well see how stuff is after that....but....do you think that since the light turned off after sitting still for alittle bit, it was just a little low.

Mitsu...8,000 things in your car could be causing it...all the information you can give helps, does it come from the engine bay or from the wheels. If it continues while you are at a stop, I would think it's coming from your engine, not bearings or cv joint or anything associated with the wheels.

dsm...Here is a link from www.stealth316.com on installing new lifters:

sorry about that....it sounds like its coming from the drivers side of the engine, not the wheels

ive had the EXACT same problem i think there is an issue with 3000's and lifter tick to solve it, first make sure your not low on oil if your not you may not be geeting good oil circulation to the upper banks. rev your engine to 6000 or higher a few times and it should stop.
