1990 Tach

alright my friend owns a 1990 civic hatchback adn it doesnt come with a tach which is ok cuz he can shift just fine with out one but hes lookin to add a small on just so he can do better shifts. does anyone know if the trany is pre wired for a tach or does he have to do it himself adn if he has to do it himself does anyone know how to.

u hook it up through your ignition coil, its the blue wire comin off of it. Just tap into the blue wire and hook up the tach.

Also, You could take of the cluster cover and there will be a single blue wire in the harness going into the guage cluster I just tapped into that.
It is quite easier that having to run wires from under the hood.

Forgot to mention this.
you could go to a junk yard and grab a 90 or 91 SI (do not use a 88 or 89 they don't quite fit, but they will work) cluster w/tach and you can pull out the on in there now and replace it with the si one, and you will have a tach and no wiring, and maintain the stock look.

88-89 will need to be rewired to work, I tried it already

You can get one from a 90-91 Civic LX or EX and a CRX si.
If you get one from a 88-89 you need to reping the connectors but the wire colors are exactly the same.
