I dont see many car companies that manufacture a 13 second 1/4mile car under $30thousand, or another car manufacturer making cars nipping on the Enzo for a fraction of the price. Most Fords(Alpines, Contours, 90's F-150's...)were rough in the 80's and 90's, but Fox body Mustangs were ripping up Vettes. Their trucks are unmatched(except the named few) and really havent had much competition except a Hemi truck(which is it a real hemi-head engine?) here and some Japanese wanna-be's there and Chevy out of the truck picture.

I own a ford and its been sitting in a field for 30 years and its more solid than most import and most domestic cars i see.

Ford has a legendary Mustang to be proud of as its frontrunner, while what does Honda have? FWD Civic in which most find a fartcan up its little exhaust system, Mopar has...a four door car masquerading as a Charger.Subaru has some kickass cars, and them and the Z are the only Japanese cars i have a lot of respect for.
Pontiac, an Australian "american legend" and a FWD 5.3L V8 GXP in which the front wheels are made wider than the rear wheels(oh how innovational), Chevy has one good car, the Vette, the SSR sucks as a replacement for the Camaro. Nice work on suicide GM

So before shoving Ford off with crappy acronyms think of what position some car makers are in

umm... ford sucks!

oh real good comment pal...the umm improvises that you spent what, about 10 mins coming up with that one eh? lets hear some improvised views about how Ford sucks.

TRD2000
05-12-2005, 06:14 PM
did you mean the ummm IMPLIES? not improvises? or is that just your word for the day? i would suggest that "suggest" would be a better word than implies, and a much better word than improvises... considering that improvises doesn't make any sense... much like designing a car with the fuel tank round the axle.

stang351
05-12-2005, 06:18 PM
i dont know if its my word for the day or what, im just dissapointed no one is acutally "improvising" why Ford sucks

stang351
05-12-2005, 06:22 PM
...and which car are you saying had the gas tank around the rear axle?

TRD2000
05-12-2005, 06:29 PM
sorry.. above... not behind

With the introduction of subcompact cars in the 1960’s, Volkswagen and Japanese car manufacturers put enormous pressure on domestic manufacturers to compete in the American small-car market. The Ford Motor Company (FoMoCo) responded to this import invasion by introducing a new model, called the Pinto, in order to reclaim a large portion of the auto sales in the United States. The Pinto was rushed into production in almost half of the regular time required to develop a new automobile. Prior to production, Ford engineers discovered a major safety hazard on the Pinto: If the car was rear-ended at a speed of 30 miles per hour, the fuel tank would rupture and spill gasoline all over the road around the car. This was discovered only after the assembly-line machines were tooled. It was determined that the cost to change the assembly line would render a huge profit loss for Ford. As a direct result of Ford’s decision to build the Pinto despite its safety problems, several hundred people died or were seriously injured.

stang351
05-13-2005, 05:46 PM
honda's weren't made to be anything special either
and besdes, what kind of power does that honda make? To outrun a Mustang you'd need a pretty good power/weight ratio and some good gearing(unless you raced a 74-83 stang)

the reason im a ford guy and not a "ricer"(i dont like that word) is because i dont like four-cylinders(i like low end torque and there is no replacement for displacement), i hate the sound of em, stuff like that. Im a muscle car guy, not just a mustang guy, i like ford mavericks, falcons, galaxies, fairlanes, dodge dusters, challengers, coronets, etc...RWD V8 cars

1PhatCX
05-13-2005, 06:40 PM
well i'm putting down about 150ish to the wheels, and with the car being gutted it weighs close to 2000 pounds so its a good power to weight ratio and hauls ass, and besides, this car has a wicked power band on it, and has lots of low end, mid, and high end torque

stang351
05-13-2005, 11:23 PM
not bad, its hard to get a lot of low end from a fourcylinder, stock my engine makes about 280(stock 390 which im just starting to build),but those are just estimates to start with, course the car im puttin it in wheighs 3700 lbs, so im gonna do a lot to the 390

Before you FORD fans start flaming in here, let me just say for the record...

Pre 1980 Fords were built OUTSTANDINGLY.

I LOVE classic FORDS, especially 1978 Ford F series/Bronco and Mustang (not the droppings of a Mustang with the II badge)!

They don't make 'em like they used to. But who does, you ask? Um... Honda?

w/your 4-banger did you have a turbo w/nitros to his stock V8 or were you racing and him just driving

And even w/ all that work-all stock 302 mustangs are hard to beat light to light you have to pull them down after they get a jump on you

and speaking of 4-bangers in the 80's fords turbo 4 in the t-birds and mustang ,For the times of techolegy they were some of the faster cars of there time speciely to there weight. Dont know the stangs weight but the t-bird wieghed 3400 lbs and had alsome handling.

and yeah dont talk shit about hondas
there are several SOHC 1.5 and 1.6L hondas running 11 second 1320s. i would never get a civic but thats because im 6'4" lol and it does take some money to make them go

still though the major argument that honda haters use is that it takes money to make them fast. think about it
go buy a 1991 hatchback for $1000 or a used vette for $20,000. for the 19,000 diff you could make that civic outrun, outhandle, outbrake, and simply own the vette.

and yes, the gt40 was good but dont credit ford too much for that one. they abandoned the car after the first year and left cosworth and some privateers to win most of the races. ford just let them keep the emblem and paintjob to get all the credit for it.

well i can get bf goodrich drag slicks from my work for 150 bucks a piece retail!
we do custom exhaust, any size, depending how much u need, no more then 300 bucks
and a piece together turbo kit can run from anywhere around 200 to 800 bucks depend where u get stuff and what u pay

and by the sounds of it, the kid cant drive. that much into a GSR should be into the 10's

Naturally aspirated? I think not. Even the Turbo honda's running 11's are far and away less than street drivable at that level of power, I kid you not.

i would never get a civic but thats because im 6'4" lol and it does take some money to make them go
A WHOLE lot of money. This 'tuner' revolution is supposedly based on cheap hot rodding, but once you start actually making power you're either replacing parts left and right, or are spending far too much...

still though the major argument that honda haters use is that it takes money to make them fast.
You said it yourself. You probably missed what I'm about to say.

think about it
Meaning, what I have to say :D

go buy a 1991 hatchback for $1000 or a used vette for $20,000.
What Year/Model Corvette are we talking about? For 20K I could get a high mileage C5 that would set the performance bar pretty high. However when you talk about that much money, you'll need some financing.. More on that later :D

for the 19,000 diff you could make that civic outrun, outhandle, outbrake, and simply own the vette.
First, with financing from whom? I can't think of anyway you'll get 20K unless you have excellent credit and a house to mortgage...

Second, any civic that can run with a vette (or better, outrun it on a track ) is a race car. I'm sure someone would be 'proud' to own it, but that would be rather sad, as it takes that much modification to run with a stock sportscar, that with minor modifications could 'own' the family car, a family car that wouldn't exactly be comfortable or fun to drive everyday, and would probably be unable to run at all on pump gas.

and yes, the gt40 was good but dont credit ford too much for that one.they abandoned the car after the first year and left cosworth and some privateers to win most of the races. ford just let them keep the emblem and paintjob to get all the credit for it.
Sure. They just paid out the initial cost to get the car running which I'm sure was astoundingly high, by 60's standards, and won with it. Credit is due to the race teams that made it happen both on the track and in the garage.. but Ford paid their way, so we cannot deny them as a company their part and by that, their due.

Hjholter3
08-28-2005, 04:22 AM
yeah and ford wanted them to put a v6 in the rx7 because it would be cheaper to make....
And would probably not have the reliability issues the rotary is rather well known for, and would probably produce torque the rotary is not known for.

mazda said no thank god and stopped making the rx7....
More due to lack of market and demanding, with recalls due to reliability and failure in stock form eating profits.

then so many people missed the rotary they made the rx8 and the new rx7!
Mazda saw a resurgence in interest in the aformentioned product in the sport compact market and a high interest in the states in imported 'sports cars', and felt they could make some money.

Ford SUCK, can't believe they would just wipe out such a unique and influencial car.
Mazda wiped the car out, Ford had a negliable interest in the car. Please don't spout Automotive Urban Legends as the truth..

My friend got a 90 Mercury Topaz with that 2.3L I4 and then later switched to a 94 Ford Tempo with the same type of 2.3L I4
Guess what? Both of them F***ED UP at around 80000 miles...
And he doesn't race them, nor go over the speedometer's limit.

Both of them stalls at red lights all the time... :uhoh:

edited: Excuse me, I shouldn't say that word...
ummm wow if you use that POS as a determining factor on how well of a company ford is you should think for a minute.

A) that engine shares technology with the model T motor, ITS A DAMN PUSH ROD I4!
B) that thing was built in mexico back in the early 90s when mexicans were first learning what cars were.(they seem to build things better now)
C) If i said honda sucked based on some car they built in the 60s (hondas dark ages) you'd think i was a tard too. Honda's first civic made like 40 hp, whats the big deal? Ford too has had their dark ages.

About the 3.8 ford v6, i own to of them. Hint: the my username, 2004 v6 mustang. I also own the shitty pre 99 3.8 Litre OHV v6 motor in my 1992 cougar, and it did have the head gaskets problem, but that problem can be solved with a simple change of the head gaskets.

Now about the 3.8L 99+ v6, well they have one of those in the 10s, completly STOCK motor, stock automatic transmission with shift kit and torque converter, 8.8 rear end with t-lock. Then they through twin 16g turbos @ 17 psi on it (combined pressure 17psi). The car ran a 10.996. Go into the cars in general, then look at car videos to see the video of it. The car only had to run on 100 octane (i've seen 110 at the gas station before). the only thing changed on the motor was the fuel pump (not on the motor but you get the point) and the fuel injectors. As well it had to be tuned ofcourse. But this proves a point, that the stock cast rods, cast crank, and hypereutectic pistons could handle 17 psi of boost, and 450+ rwhp( about 550 at the motor)

NOW THATS BUILT FORD TOUGH. BTW a v6mustang is priced about the same as a civic, and with a few bolt on mods gets better highway gas mileage or as good highway gas mileage. My v6 mustang with a few bolt ons gets about 30 mpg@70 mph. Plus you dont have to feel like a shoe when you get out of a damn civic shoebox.

well said but dont forget how well built even the 04 was.

Ok you guys were ripping on hyaundai and ford but the funny thing is in 2004 both companies tied for having the best built vehicle

The 2004 Sonata had only 5 problems for ever 100 vehicles made, by contrast, lexus had 12, the rest of ford had around 15, and toyota had about 20 problems for vehicles out of a hundred built. and the europeans, we wont even mention them, they had about 30+ problems/100. Nissan Morano had 50!!!!! and the lincoln navigator had 50 but thats understandable since it has so many bells and whistles in that thing ofcourse it will have something break.

Now the ford Mustang of 2004 had 5/100 as well, tieing the sonata for first place.

I have a crown vic (well it's my dads) and it has well over 170K on the clock. It's given us far more reliability than I ever expected from a ford. I think since the car is built for police departments and taxis mainly, Ford made sure to make the car a bit tougher and reliable, even in the non police-interceptor versions. So, not all fords are unreliable, just the vast majority of them.
